Customers are pleased with the Navigator Lift-Away Upright Vacuum's powerful suction, ease of use, lightweight design, and carpet cleaning capabilities. Many appreciate its overall performance and value for the price, along with the convenient attachments. While some find the cord length shorter than expected and the noise level noticeable, the positive feedback on key features outweighs these minor drawbacks. The vacuum is considered a good value.

The Lift Away Navigator ADV is our first upright vacuum from Shark, and we’re switching over from an older canister-style vac that used bags because these days bags are an unnecessary consumable, given the efficient dust capturing and filtering capabilities of modern vacuums. We like that the LA301 can be used as a floor vacuum with the detachable motorized brushroll base or handheld with or without the extension wand for off-the-floor cleaning like furniture, moldings, and ceiling perimeter.
When fully assembled with the brushroll base, the vacuum weighs about 13 lbs, which sounds heavy, but since most of the weight is on the floor, the vacuum really isn’t that hard to push around. This is made much easier by the fact that the pivot-point for the upright portion of the vacuum has a wide range of motion and swivels quite freely. While the vacuum is not self-propelled in any way, I still found it fairly easy to move around both over hardwood and carpet, though turning tight corners presented a bit of a challenge, requiring a few push and pulls to achieve full coverage.
The cord for the unit is an ample 25 ft, though it is not retractable, and must be manually wound onto the cord hooks on the side of the unit when storing. I do like that the upper hook rotates downward to easily and quickly release the looped cord without having to unwind it. There are also two “tool storage” posts at the sides of the dust bin, but since it comes with three accessory tools, you still need to store one off the unit.
When vacuuming, the motor of the floor brushroll only engages when the upright portion of the vacuum is tilted down past about 20 degrees. Above that angle or upright the brushroll motor shuts off. This vacuum features a fully sealed HEPA system that pulls in and traps 99.99% of dust and allergens without releasing them back out into the environment when the air is exhausted. I did notice that during and after vacuuming, I didn’t experience any dust related sneezing or irritation like I would get with our old vacuum.
One area where this vacuum struggles is accessing low-lying areas with the brushroll, for example, under couches and beds since when laid “flat” with the roller base installed, the vacuum’s height is just shy of 12 inches due to the large, 0.9 Qt dust cup. While you could get underneath low furniture with just the wand and a static brush accessory, you’d lose the deep-cleaning ability of the spinning brushroll. I found the same is true when using this vacuum on carpeted steps. The brushroll base is simply too large and cumbersome to try to run across each step, so I end up using just the handheld portion with the brush. I feel that I would get a deeper clean using the brushroll, but unfortunately, it cannot be attached directly to the wand. I should note that Shark offers another attachment, the pet power brush, sold separately, that can be used with the wand for this purpose.
That said, when using the vacuum handheld, I do like the convenience of being able to set down the motor unit and just manipulate the wand as it is pretty light -- only 1-2 lbs depending on which attachment you use and whether you attach the extension tube. The flexible hose portion has an expandable spring design which is about 30” long when retracted and can stretch to 5 ft or longer which helps a lot to reach into narrow spaces and up to the corners and edges of the ceilings where cobwebs like to hang out. There are two suction levels when using handheld (min or max), and the canister portion on its own, if you’re carrying it around, weighs about 6 lbs.
Since this model does not feature the self-cleaning brushroll, occasionally you’ll need to check the brushroll for hair wraps or tangles from other long, stringy debris. If the LED on the brushroll base turns red, this means you’ve got a jam, and you need to unclog or clear a tangle. Fortunately the roller brush has a groove that you can run a small pair of scissors through to quickly snip anything that is wrapped around it. If the LED flashes red, this indicates the brushroll motor is overheating and the unit needs to be shut off to cool down before you can safely use it again.
The dust cup for the vacuum is easy to remove, empty out, and clean. There’s one release switch at the top to lift the dust bin off the motor and a one-press release button at the bottom that opens the trap door on the bottom allowing the contents to drop into a trash can. The dust cup, foam and felt motor filters, and HEPA filter can be washed and rinsed with plain water to keep the unit running smoothly with good suction.
Overall, I feel that this vacuum performed well when vacuuming on carpet and hardwood and pulled in a lot of dirt and debris with its powerful suction while keeping our air quality clean and allergen-free. It’s lightweight, easy to maneuver, and works best for cleaning open spaces or reaching into narrow and high areas using the handheld wand. However, for getting under low-laying furniture and carpeted steps, you’ll need to forgo the motorized brushroll, or purchase an additional accessory suited for that purpose.

I normally don’t get too excited about home cleaning products, but this vacuum put a big smile on my face. It was so easy to pull out of the box and put together. It is lightweight, considering its size. And if you want to pull it off the roller head and carry it in one hand, it pops off with the press of a button. So cool. The picture I attached is after I passed the vacuum on a big rug I have in my living room. It picked up all the small visible trash without a problem but I was mind blown by all the dust it sucked out of the rug! OH MAN. No wonder I was having allergy problems at home. I can easily recommend this vacuum for people who want to clean up dust, pollen and pet / human hairs! It comes with several attachments for crevices and hard to reach areas. I love that I can pull it off the roller and carry it around the house to clean dust off areas with the included attachments. The canister is also easily removed for cleaning. It has a top that pops open so you can dump into your trash can outside. It has two filters that are also easily removable for rinsing / cleaning. I honestly enjoy cleaning with this vacuum, it makes for a better cleaning experience. It doesn’t feel like a chore when I’m using it :D

It was great... until it wasn't.
We had always gotten inexpensive vacuums but when I saw this Shark on a good black Friday sale, I decided it was time to upgrade so we did not have to keep replacing our cheap vacuums every 2 years.
I LOVED this vacuum! My whole family loved this vacuum. It was super light, easy to dump, swiveled to get hard to reach areas and vacuumed super close to the baseboards. And it was AMAZING with our dog hair (german shedder).
But after 1 1/2 years of honestly low usage (maybe once a month), the motor died/broke. We followed all the online videos to get it to work but alas it breathed its last breath.

This vacuum is a huge time saver. I have a 2 bed 1 bath duplex with all tile floors with two dogs. Sweeping was always a pain because I could see the broom just kicking up dust and dirt into the air. It would also take forever to sweep and the the floors never felt truly clean. I also have two large area rugs that this cleans well. It goes from the tile to carpet flawlessly. I love that it detaches from the base so that I can use the wand to keep my ac vents dust free. It does a really good job on my couches and the dog beds.

I have been thrilled with this vacuum! It is amazingly powerful and still very light weight. It's easy to use and maneuver, and gets closer to furniture/wall edges than any other vacuum that I've had. The hinge on the dust cup door is very well designed, unlike another brand's hinge that broke. The many features of this vacuum more than make up for not having a retractable cord.

Bought a Dyson Ball Animal 3 and promptly returned it, far too heavy to navigate and bought to replace my Dyson that I had for over 20 years. The Animal 3 was cheaply made and was to say the least, quite disappointing!
This Shark has excellent suction, very light, and considerably easy to connect and operate! The lift away feature is fantastic but it can tip over when in use but no big deal.
I LOVE it, and MUCH cheaper than the Animal and got it on sale, free delivery, which was even better!

Wired vs Battery

I've had several battery powered vacuums in the past, but the suction was always lacking. The motor on this wired version is twice as strong. Significantly better suction on carpets & floors. Portable canister adds flexibility for cleaning furniture and other hard to reach areas. Not as easy to use as battery pack, but much better results. Very happy with this model.

I purchased this for my Mother who is in her 80's, and has wall-to-wall carpeting. It is so powerful and self-propelled-exactly the type of vacuum cleaner my Mother needed. Added to this, it is lightweight and its ergonomic design makes it easy to grip and handle. However, one of the greatest assets is that there are literally 2 vacuum cleaners in one. The other detaches from the main one and can be used to clean stairs and furniture. This was definitely worth the money.

This is a fantastic vacuum. Compared to other models the suction is powerful for the size, the cord length is just right and being able to lift out the canister to go up steps is a plus. Being able to clean hardwood floors eliminates having to use another device(the broom). The only thing that I disliked was the fact that it does not have a light to be able to see underneath things

I love this vacuum. I had an old dirt devil that was, I thought, doing the job. But then I could no longer get replacement hepa filters for it, so time for a new vacuum. This was on sale, had good reviews and I went for it. Super easy to put together, very light, long cord - so far so good. Then I vacuumed with it. Wow. So apparently that perfectly fine old vacuum was not so much. This vacuum is excellent, My carpets feel softer, I can use it as an upright or like a canister and it just gets the job done!

Surprisingly, it's a good vacuum. It is way better than my battery-operated one and better than a robot vacuum. I never thought that I had so much hair on my carpet, even after finishing my daily vacuuming routine. Shark- Navigator Lift Away has great suctioning power and is easy to navigate, not too heavy to carry around, and easy to empty. I recommend!
