As a fan of Shark products, I expected an excellent vacuum and that is exactly what I got. If you need a vacuum that sucks (sorry for being generic, but sucks a good way) this is a great option. There is a switch on the handle that allows you to use light suction for some types of carpets and rugs and also full suction for other types depending on what you are cleaning at the time. Both work really well. When you kick it into full suction, it's almost as if the Shark pulls itself. Couple that with the light weight and you have an extremely easy vacuum to operate. The power switch has two modes allowing you to select hard floors or carpets and the roller will behave differently depending on which one you choose. I find that the roller seems to go a little slower when using on hard floors. I am guessing this is so it will pick up debris more effectively instead of making it fly all over the place by going at the fastest RPM. In my use, I have found that both the hard floor and carpet settings work as intended. I vacuumed the day before with my old vacuum and also the next day when I received the new Shark and I was amazed at how much was in the canister when I was done. Yikes, but good! The wand and the canister both release easily, enabling you to carry the canister without the base (making it even lighter) while doing hard to reach areas and stairs. With the added attachments, you can get just about any job done with ease. The wand can be used, or the handle alone can be removed (from the wand) and also used with attachments, making it even more versatile. In fact, the whole system is so modular that even removing the canister to empty or clean is a piece of cake. The base leans at left and right angles while in use making it easy to go around corners with minimal effort. The base is also low profile, so you can go under some types or furniture a lot easier than older style vacuums. The base roller has a width of 10 inches, making this the width of your cleaning path. The noise level seems to be on par with other vacuums I have used lately. Definitely not as loud as older vacuums, but pretty much on par with current offerings. Lastly, this comes boxed up really well and requires very minimal assembly. You really only have to snap the wand and handle together and click them into the base and you are good to go. Easy easy. All in all, this is yet another great and very well designed product from Shark. I expect it to last and perform well for years. I'm really enjoying this Shark Lift-Away. I already have the Shark Navigator for my home, but purchased this smaller one for an apartment and it cleans both the floors and the carpets handily. Bin opens up and drops the debris without needing to touch the debris, unlike another Shark vacuum that never fully emptied without manually pulling residue that kept getting caught in the container. This one does not do that and empties completely, which is good!

The vaccume is really compact and very powerful suction.
