When I am cooking you can hear it working to clean the air. It's not extremely loud but when the air needs cleaning, you can tell that it is trying to clear the air.

It’s placed in a large finished dormer bedroom above the kitchen and works double time if there’s any smoke or odors from cooking. I always have it on auto unless I need to clear the air fast. I also love that I haven’t had to worry about changing the filter.
