A: 5 years from now the cost of a new HEPA filter will not resemble today's expense. I'll worry about that when the time comes. The cleanable filters will need cleaning at intervals that will vary among different environments, of course. I think every two months or so is common. I just vacuumed ours at one month, but the accumulated debris was minimal. We have two dogs but vacuum floors regularly anyhow. I elected to not bother with the scent pod.
A: Nope! Mine only changes when I have incense going or am cooking or something like that. Switch from % to PM readings (particle matter) and that will be a better indicator of the dander you're referring to from pets!
