Wanted to love it
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As someone who has owned Shark vacuums for years, I wanted to love this vacuum. Unfortunately, either mine was a lemon or this model isnt it. The cord would not stay in any outlet in my home. I ran the vacuum twice and it shut off in the middle of running both times. I called Shark to get some insight and they provided no help. They were not willing to find a resolution so ultimately I returned this unit.

Superior Performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect Technology is a versatile and powerful tool designed to tackle various floor types and household cleaning needs. The DuoClean Detect Technology incorporates a dual-brush roll system that can handle both large and small debris on carpets and hard floors. The soft front brushroll pulls in larger particles, while the standard brushroll deep cleans carpets. The Shark PowerDetect motor is rated at 1418 watts. The cord is 30 feet. The vacuum comes with updated tool accessories. It comes with a Pet Power Brush for loosening and removing pet hair and debris from carpets and upholstery, a crevis tool for easy access to corners, baseboards, and tight places, and a dusting tool. The self-cleaning feature, a boon for pet owners, prevents hair wrap, making it easier to maintain and ensuring the vacuum runs efficiently without the need for frequent cleaning of the brushroll. The PowerDetect Technology automatically adjusts the suction power based on the type of surface being cleaned, optimizing performance. The extra-large dustcup reduces the frequency of emptying, making it more convenient for extended cleaning sessions. The Advanced Swivel Steering allows for easy navigation around furniture and tight spaces. Further, the vacuum is equipped with a HEPA filter and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology, capturing and trapping dust, allergens, and other microscopic particles. The LED Headlights help illuminate the hidden debris and make it easier to see what you are cleaning. The vacuum performed exceptionally well throughout my cleaning sessions. I recently had my carpets professionally cleaned. For several weeks, I used my other vacuum cleaner. I then used the Shark PowerDetect to vacuum my carpets. I could not believe how much dirt my other vacuum cleaner missed and how much more dirt the Shark PowerDetect picked up. The Shark PowerDetect even picked up Arm & Hammer Carpet Odor powder that was missed by my other vacuum cleaner. I have a dog that sheds like crazy. The self-cleaning brush roll easily cleaned the dog hairs off the carpet while preventing hair from wrapping around the roller. My carpet now looks and feels noticeably cleaner and softer. The one slight flaw with the Shark PowerDetect is the weight. It is heavier and less portable compared to stick or handheld vacuums. There is some maintenance with this vacuum. Proper maintenance and care are essential to keep your Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect Technology in top condition. It would help if you cleaned your sense detectors regularly so that your device would keep operating at optimal peak performance. Regularly cleaning the filters, brush rolls, and dustcup and checking for blockages will also ensure optimal performance and longevity. The Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum with DuoClean Detect Technology, Self-Cleaning Brushroll, and XL Dustcup offers robust cleaning capabilities with a range of features designed to enhance performance and convenience. It's particularly well-suited for households with mixed flooring and those needing strong suction power and allergy filtration. While it may be heavier and pricier than some alternatives, its advanced technologies and ease of maintenance make it a solid investment for comprehensive home cleaning.

A beast with brains!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have enjoyed Shark vacuums for years and so, when it came time to upgrade, their new PowerDetect upright was at the top of my list. Our home is a bit of a challenge for any vacuum as we have a variety of floor surfaces, three cats and an attached hair salon! Shark has addressed our needs by providing a unit with extremely powerful suction that sports a number of "smart" sensors that allow it to detect and adapt to your floor's surface, determine how dirty it is, which direction you are pushing the vacuum and even how close to the wall you are!!! The unit has dual rollers. The front is a spongy brush that effortlessly picks up fine dust and debris and is backed up by a more conventional harder brush that has both rubber wipers and a stiff brush to get out the deep down dirt from a carpeted surface. The best part is that you don't have to manually switch modes when you pass from say a hardwood or tiled surface to a rug. The sensors detect the change and automatically adjust the rotation and suction to get the best results. The unit can even identify when you are vacuuming close to the edge of the wall and divert additional suction out to pick up dirt that has collected right next to the baseboards! The vacuum also offers a unique ability to detach the dust bin while still allowing power to the head. It's like having a stick vacuum but with much more suction and all of the "smarts" of the powered unit. You also have a generous selection of attachment tools that allow you to tackle crevices or furniture with ease. Another feature that we really appreciate is the self-cleaning brush roll. With our older unit hair would get so tightly wrapped around the brush that the motor would stall! Shark has figured out a design that essential cuts the hair away from the roller on the fly! Finally, the unit offers an extra-large dust cup with a HEPA filter, a generous length of power cord and is actually stylish to look at! The new eggplant color with gold accents very cool. One thing to be aware of is that all of this power comes with a bit of heft. The unit weighs about eighteen pounds and that, along with the unbelievable bi-directional suction, can make it a bit more difficult to maneuver than lesser machines but it is totally worth it! This vacuum is a winner! Highly recommended...

Powerful, versatile and now with more smarts!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I just got my new Shark PowerDetect Upright/Lift off vacuum. It is a worthy vacuum that is both powerful and versatile. The vacuum itself strongly resembles the older Shark Vertex model but now has a dark eggplant color scheme and include new sensors that are said to automatically detect the floor type, level of embedded dirt and when it's gliding along an hard edge. It can be used as a traditional upright vacuum or can also be used as a lift off canister style vacuum if thats what you prefer. It has the DuoClean system which has spinning "fins" versus bristles along with a soft spinning roller at the front of the brush head. And for all you pet owners or long hair users out there, the brush roller is self cleaning. Unpacking was easy and fast and the instruction do a great job at showing you how to assemble all the parts. The PowerDetect now included a replaceable scent cartridge that helps keeps vacuuming odors at bay. Thats a small addition but a welcomed one and I can simply order a new one when the time comes. Overall, it is a compact vacuum and fits should fit nicely in any closet, so storage shouldn't be an issue. Once I looked over the manual, I started right away to use around the house. I started using it as an upright, which is my preferred way. It's not that heavy and is quite nimble. It can pivot around corners easily and has a nice LED headlamp that does a decent job at lighting the way. One thing to note, is that the handle ALSO has a light when you use it with other tools than the brush roller. I thought was a nice touch. The handle includes the power button and 4 other soft-touch buttons where you activate the different modes offered. You can choose Detect Mode, which activates the sensors for floor type, dirt level and edge detection. I used this one initially and an indicator light on the brush roller showed it was active at detecting. White showed it was cleaning as usual and when it turned purple, the Dirt Detector kicked in and increased the suction power. When it ran along a wall or a piece of furniture on the floor, the Edge Detect arrow lit up and also automatically increased the suction power. The Edge Detect worked especially well. All in all, it did a nice job picking up dirt and as with most bagless vacuums, was easy to empty over a trash can. I then decided to try out the manual modes also offered on the handle. You can select Hard Floors which seemed to have strong suction and uses the front soft brush roller, then there is Carpet-Low Pile which has strong suction and uses the PowerFins. Lastly is the Thick Carpet/Area Rug button that turns down the suction power for longer piled carpets. I wanted the strongest suction so I selected the Carpet-Low Pile option and it worked very well. When in Detect Mode, the strongest suction wasn't automatically turned on, so I decided to keep it in the manual mode in order to get the strongest suction at all times. Shark claims that the PowerDetect Vacuum has the strongest suction of any vacuum and although it was quite good, I think an old vacuum I have does a better job at fluffing the carpet, which is how I equate the suction power. Don't get me wrong, the Shark holds its own and more. From a versatility stand point, this vacuum can also be used in lift-off mode as a hand-held canister. I thought I would like this mode since it does allow for easier cleaning under furniture but the power brush head was hard to control. It would run off on it's own and would lift off the surface. I assume it's because the power brush head isn't heavy enough to keep it stable and flat unlike when it's in the attached, upright mode. Maybe others will have better luck using that mode than I did. And not to forget, there are a few accessory tools that area also included. It came with the Duster Crevice tool, which is a typical crevice tool that transforms to a brush tool with a sliding brush. It also came with the Pet Multi-Tool which is a brush with detachable bristles. Lastly is the Hair Pro Self-Cleaning Pet Power Brush. It's an air-propelled brush that is also tangle-free and it did a great job at cleaning the stairs. It was my favorite tool. There are also many additional tools that can be purchased that will work with this vacuum. You can attached 2 tools onto the vacuum itself for storage but I wish they could figure out how to add a third accessory post so I could store all the tools it came with directly on the unit. Not an issue though. Maintenance seems to be pretty easy as well. Since it's bagless, no bags to deal with. There are a couple of foam filters that should be cleaned from time to time, as well as wiping down the conical lint filter. Other than that, its really hassle-free. This vacuum comes with a 5 YEAR warranty which is amazing so if you do run into any problems, it's covered for a good while. Overall, it's a great vacuum. The Detect Sensors are a nice addition, but as I mentioned, I will probably be using it in manual mode more often since it allows for the strongest suction at all times. The vacuum is very versatile, nimble, cleans well and has a great warranty. Hopefully it will perform well for many years to come.

Definitely a 5 Star Clean
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The short version; for a deep clean, Shark Powerdetect is a must have. All the sensors help out to get the best results on all surfaces. Add the scent cartridge to make it fresh and clean. It's not the fastest if you are looking for that deep clean but it works great. I reached this conclusion by trying it out around the house. I have a Shark cordless vacuum and a high end Roomba that are used daily to clean the house. After running both of those I used the Powerdetect. Somewhat surprisingly a lot of extra dirt was pulled from the carpets. I took the time and kept running the vacuum over areas until the dirt sensor would turn off. All the sensors worked well with detecting dirt and increasing suction, detecting edges and lighting that area more while increasing suction, and finally seamlessly detecting changes in flooring and adjusting suction and brushes. Of note, these features only work with the head unit and not with the hose and wand. The vacuum is pretty heavy and bulky but it's easy to maneuver. One of my favorite small things on this vacuum is that the hose end has a light on it! So when you're cleaning the stairs or cleaning the car it's easy to see where you're vacuuming. It's easy to switch to the wand to get tight or high spots and the whole unit lifts off to do stairs. It comes with the standard hose attachments. The head will also light up red if something like a cord gets caught in the rollers. Overall, I really recommend this vacuum. It works great for a weekly or monthly deep clean. If you're not worried about having the convenience of the other vacuums this could be used more often to alleviate the need for a deep clean.

Awesome!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is a beast and is the best vacuum I have owned. I have 5 pets so have always had a lot of pet hair to deal with. I’ve never had a unit until now that has done anything better than average. First, it has an auto sensing so you don’t need to adjust anything when moving between carpet and hardwood. It also auto adjusts the power based on if it senses dirt or not. It will rev up to get the really dirty spots. Once it gets it clean it throttles back. It has a nice light on the unit that helps you see under furniture and along corners and baseboards. Another feature I enjoy is how easy it is to vacuum the steps. The unit separates from the base so it’s lighter to carry up steps. The suction while using the included step brush is really powerful and does an amazing job. The only slight negative is when pushing the vacuum forward no problem but it is a little heavy on the backstroke. But, with the suction and how well this cleans this is not a deal breaker. Overall great cleaning product that you will not regret owning.

Shark PowerDetect: Your Smart Cleaning Sidekick
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it comes to keeping a clean home, especially with pets or kids, a reliable vacuum is essential. Over the past few weeks, I’ve had the chance to test out the Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum, and I can confidently say it has exceeded my expectations in many ways. Living with a cat that leaves hair everywhere, plus numerous family members, keeping the floors clean has always been a challenge. But with the Shark PowerDetect, it’s like having a cleaning assistant that’s as intelligent as it is powerful. One of the standout features of this vacuum is its DuoClean Detect technology. The sensors built into the vacuum automatically detect hidden dirt, debris, and even the type of flooring, adjusting the suction and brushroll speed accordingly. This means you don’t have to keep switching settings as you move from carpet to hardwood or as you tackle different areas of your home. I found the detect mode to be particularly useful, as it allowed the vacuum to determine the right level of power needed to get the job done efficiently. The suction power on this vacuum is nothing short of impressive. The first time I used it on my carpet, it pulled up more dirt than I thought was even there. It has a powerful grip on the carpet, which is great for deep cleaning, this level of suction is exactly what you need if you’re dealing with pet hair or deeply embedded dirt. However, on harder surfaces like vinyl or laminate, I occasionally had to use an accessory to pick up stubborn debris, which was a minor inconvenience. Another feature I appreciated was the self-cleaning brushroll. Anyone who has dealt with long hair or pet hair knows the pain of having to manually clean out a vacuum brushroll. With the Shark PowerDetect, this is no longer a concern. The brushroll efficiently picks up hair without it wrapping around, which saves a lot of time and hassle. After several uses, I haven’t had to clean the brushroll once, which is a huge plus in my book. The vacuum also comes equipped with an Anti-Allergen Complete Seal and HEPA filtration, which traps 99.99% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum. This was evident when I had to clean the filter after just a few uses—it was doing a serious job collecting dust. For anyone with allergies or asthma, this feature is particularly beneficial. The addition of an odor neutralizer is a nice touch too, helping to keep the vacuum smelling fresh even after multiple uses. While the Shark PowerDetect has a lot going for it, it’s not without a few minor drawbacks. The small wheels on the nozzle have a felt material that, while helping it glide on hard surfaces, can sometimes cause the vacuum to drift when you want it to swivel. Additionally, hair can accumulate around the metal pins that hold the wheels, which affects maneuverability. It’s something to keep in mind, but not a dealbreaker given the vacuum’s overall performance. The vacuum also comes with several handy accessories, including a duster crevice tool and a pet power brush, which are great for above-floor cleaning. The detachable pod is another feature I found useful, allowing me to clean stairs and furniture easily. However, be careful when using the wand, as the vacuum has a tendency to tip over if the hose is stretched too far. It’s a small design flaw that could lead to potential damage if not handled carefully. Overall, the Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum is an excellent investment for anyone looking for a powerful and smart vacuum that makes cleaning a breeze. The advanced detection technology, combined with its incredible suction and low maintenance, makes it ideal for homes with pets, kids, or anyone who values a clean living environment. Despite a few minor concerns, the pros far outweigh the cons, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this vacuum to anyone in need of a high-performance cleaning tool.

Go To The Edge!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set-Up: This is the first time that I can recall where an upright vacuum is pretty much ready right out of the box without the need for any screwdriver to secure a couple of screws in the handle. This vacuum easily clicks together within a few minutes. Performance: This is where I am going to rave about the Shark Power Detect. I have mostly hardwood floors in my home with a couple of large area rugs that my cats like to play on. With my previous vacuum (that claimed it was pet hair focused), I had vacuumed these area rugs once a week. However, when I used the Shark Power Detect on the same rugs, the dispenser was so full of fur that it looked like another cat had been produced. I feel like that other vacuum brand lied to me. And this result was within the first two minutes of using this vacuum! Once I was done with the first area rug, I went onto the hardwood floors. Typically, when going from a rug/carpet to a hardwood/flat surface, you need to press a switch that makes the vacuum adjust to the new terrain. Not this time, this Shark automatically adjusts without issue. This makes for speedier cleaning. The Edge Detection works. I mean, it REALLY works, unlike any other vacuum I have used in the past. Dust bunnies and little pieces of debris that typically can only be removed by detaching the wand were easily pulled into the vacuum head because of the edge suction. Another cool feature of this Shark vacuum is that the fingertip controls are built into the handle, allowing you to easily switch modes if needed. I have carpeted stairs in my home which also attract cat hair. In the past, I would haul my vacuum onto each stair so that the beater brush could do a thorough cleaning. This Shark vacuum comes with a Pet Multitool that is as serious as the main vacuum itself. And if this is your first time with a self-cleaning brushroll vacuum then you are going to wonder how you ever managed without one before now. No more cutting or slicing through hair knotted onto the brush roll. I won’t pretend to know how it works but what I do know is that I don’t have to worry about hair build-up impeding on the vacuum performance. And finally, I have to mention the cord length. With my previous vacuum, I could only go so far with it before needing to turn off the vacuum and plug it into another outlet. Again, time-consuming when I just want to get this chore done. With this Shark Power Detect, I was able to go much further without needing to change outlets.

Bigger than Expected
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the box is the vacuum with 3 attachments and a scent pod and an owners guide. First impression, this vacuum is very bulky and bigger compared to my previous older shark vacuum. Although it is bigger, the vacuum does move itself and you just guide it where it needs to go. Also, when you take the base off, that part is light. Please note, in my home, I own a previous shark vacuum that is probably at least 3-4 years old. I have linoleum in the kitchen, an area run in the hallway leading to the bedrooms and a rug in the bathroom. The rest of the house is laminate hardwood. Downstairs is concrete flooring that is covered with area rugs in high traffic areas. Installation - The installation literally took less than five minutes and was pretty self explanatory. If you have a previous shark vacuum, it will snap together pretty much the same way and if you don’t the owners manual will lead the way. Auto Detector Feature for types of flooring and dirt - I found this feature to be helpful somewhat but on one of my rugs, it detected it to be a thick rug instead of thin, so I had to fight the vacuum off of the rug to change the setting and vacuum properly. Otherwise, everywhere else in the house it worked pretty good. The auto detect for the dirt is great too. I had a few dirt areas that I wasn’t aware of and the light from the vacuum and with the detect feature I was able to see the dirt and release the hose and suck up the hard to reach spot under the table. Attachments - With this particular vacuum, I received the pet multi-tool, the anti-allergen dust brush and the duster crevice tool and with the vacuum and the each attachment, I am embarrassed to say that I had to dump my dust cup twice and clean it out. My home does have a lot of high traffic in certain areas, so I am thinking I need to vacuum and dust a little more often. Odor Neutralizer Technology - This feature, I love! The vacuum comes with one pod that you load into the vacuum. You can turn it down for a little scent or up for a lot of scent. In my household, it will definitely be turned down because of scent sensitivity but I do love the smell of the scent that comes with the vacuum. Overall, I am pleasantly pleased with this shark vacuum and I would hands down purchase again! I would also recommend to friends and family.

Another Super Shark Vacuum
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got another Shark vacuum, my fourth, and it is super fancy! The Shark PowerDetect Upright Vacuum with Detect Technology, DuoClean Detect, Powered Lift Away, Self Cleaning Brushroll and more. It even has an Odor Neutralizer Technology. AZ4000 series. Lots of features to learn about after some simple assembly. Surprisingly heavy compared to my other models even if it seems to be made from heavy duty plastic. Gray and purple body with a clear canister so you can see the dustcup. Detect mode is supposed to change the suction based on the floor type, dirt and edges. It also has an "idle" feature that pauses when in the upright position or not being moved. There are four options on the handle for Detect Mode, Hard Floor, Carpet/Low pile and thick carpet area rug. I mainly used Detect Mode as I moved from room to room, from plush carpet to low pile and tile flooring. Edgedetect lights up the right or left arrows closest to the edges and maximizes suction. White edgedetect indicator means cleaning, purple light means cleaning boost. Lots of sensors to find and clean if not functioning as expected. All can be cleaned by rinsing with water and letting dry for 24 hours. Came with a duster crevice tool and upholstery tool onboard and a pet power brush for use on upholstery. Powered lift away canister allows you to remove the powered floor nozzle and carry it around. The wand can be released for above the floor cleaning. The handle can be released to use the hose on the attachments. The dust cup can be emptied by removing the pod and pressing the lower release button and the bottom of the dust cup will drop open. If debris collects on the lint screen, press the top release button and lift the handle to access the screen. All in all another great Shark with so many settings and filters I will have to keep the Owner's Guide handy to learn where and what needs to be done.

Great suction and motor head; a bit cumbersome;
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Maneuverability: A bit unwieldy on stairs and on transition from hard surface to carpet. The motor head has a relatively low 3-inch profile. Tipping the handle back allowing you go get about 6 inches under furniture. The wand is rather heavy if held from the end (i.e., as when using with the base). Holding from the top is more comfortable but places the on/off switch behind the hand making it cumbersome to use. Cord: 30 foot cord allows me to vacuum multiple rooms from one outlet. NOTE: If the power switch is accidentally pressed while the vacuum is unplugged or if it becomes unplugged while in use, it will turn on unattended the next time that the cord is plugged in. Canister: The canister is easy to remove once you figure out which button to press. The one to the left of the canister handle detaches the collection bin for emptying. The one at the top of the canister handle detaches the powered canister assembly so that it can be used without the motor head. Debris can get stuck at the top edge of the collection bin. Inverting the bin (with the trap door closed) generally works to dislodge it. Filters: There are four replaceable filters. The two pre-filters under the collection bin can be removed and washed with (2 before and 1 after the canister) can be removed and rinsed with cold water. Shark recommends that this be done monthly and replaced every 2.5 years. The HEPA filter at the base of the canister should be cleaned annually and replaced every 3 years. The fourth “filter” is what Shark calls the “odor neutralizer”. The vacuum will function without the cartridge so long as the “odor dial” is in place. The cartridge should be replaced every 6 months. Light: LED head- and side-lamps on the motor head are enabled based on surface and edge detection. An extra LED on the handle illuminates the area in front of the wand. Tools: The unit came with a pet multi-tool, duster-crevice tool, and self-cleaning pet power brush. The pet multi-tool is just an upholstery tool with a detachable brush. The AZ4002 came with three tools but there is only room for two on the canister. All tools have a fixed angle with respect to the wand and do not articulate. Motor: The motor speed determined by the “detect mode” sensors or manually by selecting hard surface, low pile carpet, or high pile carpet. In detect mode, it can take 3-5 seconds for the AZ4002 to figure out the type of floor and set the correct motor speed. Two-roller Motor Head: This is a really nice feature! It is very efficient at picking up dirt on bare floors. Shark claims that the motor heads are “self-cleaning”. We do not have enough hair in our carpets to test this feature. Overall: The AZ4002 has a lot of suction! The motor brushes very effective picking up dirt from hard floors and carpets. The motor head is difficult to use on stairs and the weight of the wand and fixed angle on the tools make use of the wand cumbersome.

Best suction ever
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark Powerdetect upright vacuum is hands down the best vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. It has the best suction I've seen in a vacuum and tons of nice features. It has a feature called Duoclean DETECT that senses floor type, how much dirt, vacuum direction, and edges then adjusts that amount of power needed to do the job. I also like the self-cleaning brushroll that keeps pet fur and hair from getting tangled up in the brush. And the pet multi-tool is amazing. It picks up fur from furniture really well. As a test of how well this vacuum works, first we ran our highly rated stick vacuum on one of our rugs, and then the Shark Powerdetect and couldn't believe how much additional dirt and fur was picked up. We then ran our full-sized upright on another rug with the same results. The Shark Powerdetect isn't a lightweight. It is noticeably heavier than our stick vacuum. But after seeing how much cleaner our rugs are, I don't know if the stick vacuum will be used again. You buy a vacuum cleaner for one reason. I has to clean well. The Shark Powerdetect doesn't disappoint. It cleans better than any vacuum I've ever had. But beyond cleaning ability the Powerdetect has some really thoughtful features that are icing on the cake. And it has a 5 year warranty, which means Shark is confident in the build quality of this vacuum.

Works way better than expected
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old vacuum was begging for some needed rest. So I went searching for a replacement. I have always liked shark products (and other under same company), so when this was found I knew I could trust it to work. Here are some point of interest on how I viewed this item. Good: 1. works well on all my surfaces (wood, tile, and carpet) with no need to adjust for each type 2. plenty of accessories to get the job done (pet handle, couch, crevice, fabric, etc). 3.long hose, so I can not have to worry about dragging it close behind me all the time. 4. strong suction that showed me how much my last one didn't clean very well. 5. compartment for scent release while vacuuming, I have mine at lowest and it works fine 6. easy to remove and dump dirt cup. simple clip to lets you empty it out fast. 7. swivel handle (bottom) lets you zoom around corners and furniture with ease. took me a few mins to get use to it. 8. not the lightest one I have had, but with the performance I can overlook that one issue 9. comes with HEPA filter to keep the nasty pollen, dirt, and such from returning to the carpet 10. in upright position it feels solid and not easy to tip over. Bad 1. putting it together was interesting, as the instructions were not all clear on some items. even the pictures did not give much help 2. took a while to find the on/off switch. I am use to either one on the handle, or on rear near the pivot point on the brush area. 3. not totally heavy, but I am leaving it downstairs since it is too difficult for me to take it up and down alot. So needless to say. I am happy with it and also knowing I am cleaning my carpet better than before. Plus the bonus of adding different scents depending on mood, makes me happy

Extreme Suction/Easy on the ears
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is our 3rd Shark vac, but their first upright model that we’ve tried. I prefer using an upright on our upstairs carpeting, vs. using our robot vac or our older competing-brand upright which was beginning to show its age. We’ve been very pleased with our other 2 Shark vacs, and this PowerDetect model doesn’t disappoint. Here are a few things I like so far after using the PowerDetect for a week: - Out of the box: It’s very easy to set up. No tools needed. Just a half dozen-or-so steps to click components into place, and it’s ready to use. I also like the deep purple (eggplant) color with black & light green accents. - Low noise: This was the biggest surprise. It actually has an easy-on-the-ears, low-frequency roar vs. the annoying high-pitched whine of our high-end, expensive, famous-brand upright. Not having to insert earplugs or wear noise-canceling headphones while vacuuming was a refreshing change. Even when this Shark revs up into “boost” mode, it’s not too loud. - Lighting: There are bright white LED lights on the front of the vac that stay illuminated. In addition, when you approach a wall, the side lights turn on until you move away. There’s also a light on the handle that illuminates when you remove the wand from the base. - Maneuvering: My older upright ball-roller vac was light & easy to maneuver, so I wasn’t sure if this heavier Shark would be as easy to wield. This Shark weighs in at about 17.5 lbs., but to my delight it has a bit of self-propulsion action, not unlike my mower. So, it requires very little effort to push with just a bit more effort to pull back towards you, making it much easier to handle than I’d anticipated. Since vacuuming is a chore that I often procrastinate over, at least I can expend less energy accomplishing the task now. - Suction Power: Excellent! This vac has more suction power than any vac we’ve ever had. We had just vacuumed a few days earlier with our old upright. We were shocked to see how much more dust & debris this Shark picked up on its first pass. - Sensors galore: This machine is amazing. It changes suction power when it detects that you’re moving from carpet to hard flooring or tile. It also senses when it’s rolling over heavier debris which triggers a power boost. It senses when you approach an edge or wall & activates both additional suction power as well as helpful side-lighting. It also senses the direction in which you’re vacuuming & automatically changes the suction direction to forward or reverse for maximum pull. I didn’t mention all the features but, overall, this is the best upright vac we’ve ever owned. Kudos to Shark! They really thought of almost everything with this PowerDetect model.

What more could you want?

They continuously update their products with new technology and I never find those things to ever just be a gimmick. I can't recall anything in particular that wasn't thoughtful and helpful. Continuing that trend, this new upright vacuum offers several new features and technology. I was initially feeling a bit worried that all it promised would be over-hyped but my trust in the brand made me hopeful. It wasn't long before those worries dissipated. This thing is loaded with features, big and small, and all of them work as promised based on my experience with them. Returning is the self cleaning brushroll and fins which has been my favorite feature since they introduced it. If you live in a house with people and pets with long hair and ever cleaned the brushroll in vacuums that don't have it, you know the deal. The star feature though is all the built in sensors. The FloorDetect works fairly quickly when adapting to your surface. It went from my carpet, to hardwood to area rug and back all without a hitch, and cleaned them all very well. The EdgeDetect sensors help clean edges better than anything I've used before. In addition, it brightens that sides headlight (and turns off the other sides) for extra visibility which is helpful most of the time but occasionally there are areas I wish both headlights stayed on. The DirtDetect is the most interesting. It sure seems to be accurate considering whenever it boosted power it was always in spots my cats frequent, where their litter boxes were and all the obscure areas like under cabinets and tables. Besides hearing the power change, indicator lights on the machine let you know when things are activating or if sensors need cleaning. The sensors also detect if you lift the vacuum or snap it upright for a moment. When you do, it will decrease it's power until you start using it again. If you don't prefer to use Detect mode, you have the option to turn it off by selecting one of the other individual buttons (hard floor, carpet, thick carpet/area rug). Lastly, the biggest surprise feature is the wand actually has a built in light which is the first I have ever seen. It's a really nice touch. I'm not sure why this hasn't been a thing sooner. Beyond all this, it's probably the most powerful vacuum I've ever used or owned. It's got some serious suction. As for the Odor Neutralizer, it's supposed to be for keeping the inside of the machine from smelling but I never had a problem with odor in any vacuum I have ever used or owned. However, I do smell it when using the vacuum which is a pleasant, unintended side effect of it. It reminds me of a fabric softener scent and it's quite nice. The manual says they should be replaced every 6 months which is a respectable length of time. They're actually not badly priced and come in packs of two. However I'm not sure if I will feel the need to replace the cartridge in the future. It is an optional feature, so if you choose not to use it, you can just remove the cartridge and reinstall the plug. Besides all the great features, it feels pretty well designed, too. The profile of the back is quite flat so you're able to get it very close to the floor when extending and reaching areas like under tables. The dust bin is highly visible allowing you to see everything you collected and how full it is, release buttons can all be quickly accessed and all filters/pads are easily accessible for cleaning. While the buttons on the wand are touch activated, the power on/off is a push button so you won't accidentally turn it off while using it. One thing I do find a bit tough is getting the lift-away part back into position after releasing it. The attachment slots surround the wand near the bottom so you have to really guide it into place in what feels like a tight spot. With everything going for it, not surprisingly it's got some weight to it but I think it's similar to past models. It's still easy to work with it and it's comfortable to use so you don't really feel the weight of it unless you pick it up. Other than those couple of trivial things, I can't say enough about how much I enjoy this vacuum.
