Great vacuum in many ways
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought my Shark Rotator Lift Away LA502 vacuum in November 2023. I have used it once to vacuum 4,000 sf of house that includes standard carpet, low pile rugs, hardwood, and tile floors. It has performed perfectly on all the surfaces. I’m giving the Rotator LA 502 five stars. Here are some specifics. Pro’s • Assembly is easy, you simply snap four parts together. • The entire vacuum is light weight for an upright, weighing only 12 lbs – one of the reasons I bought it. • The brush action and suction are super at pulling dirt and lint, etc. out of the carpet. I vacuumed regularly with my old Hoover upright and was amazed at how much dirt I got on my first pass with the Shark. Truly impressive. • It moves easily back and forth across the carpet. The brush system actually gives it some forward self-propelled motion which is nice. Pulling it back against that motion is easy. • The brushes turn off when the handle is put in the vertical position so there is no rug burn. • The head pivots up and down and side to side which makes it very easy to maneuver into corners and tight spaces. • The head is low enough to fit completely under the overhang of my bottom kitchen cabinets. • The cord is long enough to cover a good distance before unplugging and replugging. • The push button releases for the canister and the wand/handle are easy to use as is the one to dump out the contents of the canister. • The wand/handle is long enough when removed from the unit to easily reach the edge around a baseboard or up to an 8 ft. ceiling. The unit stays upright and does not fall over. • The power switch that selects hard floor and carpet is conveniently located, no need to do anything to the vacuum head itself. • The vacuum is not noisy like my old Hoover that required ear plugs. • The crevice and brush attachments are stored on board the unit. Con’s These are relatively minor criticisms. • The pedal that releases the body of the vacuum to tilt back is also used to release the entire canister section from the vacuum head so you can carry it around by itself. Several times I when I pushed down just to tilt the unit, it released itself entirely when I started vacuuming. That’s annoying. • When I pushed down on the pedal to tilt the unit back to vacuum, it did not tilt back from the vacuum head on its own. I had to press the pedal slightly, then put my foot on the top of the vacuum head and pull the handle back down to tilt it. The vacuum head is not heavy enough and just lifts off the floor otherwise. It’s a quirk you get used to and perhaps the price I pay for a lighter vac. At first I thought the unit was defective for not tilting. • The cord seems to get in the way more than usual. There is a small clip on the back of the handle to keep the cord raised up, but the cord constantly comes loose from it. I tried securing the cord to the clip only to discover that I could not lift the wand out of the unit because the cord was holding it down. Still looking for a good fix for this. • The vacuum head is not as wide as the old Hoover. I wish it had another two inches of width. The smaller head makes it easy to vacuum in smaller spaces, but it also means more passes over a large area. • The handle is very slightly ribbed and the way I grab it, those ribs rub my hand a bit. If I keep my thumb on the little spot for it on top of the handle, that prevents the rubbing, but it is not the way I normally grip a handle.
