I'm writing this from the point of view of a multiple long haired dog owner. We've owned multiple expensive vacuums, including Miele. It's very frustrating to have to use tools to unscrew the roller for cleaning. We also have the Bissel Pet Hair Remover vacuum, which we've been using for the past few months. The roller on that stays remarkably clean, but it is a pretty big & heavy unit. The Shark is nice for its features - completely hooked up, it's somewhat lighter than the Bissel, but the key is that you can "lift off", take it apart, and use it for the stairs. Another feature is the top of the brush unit lifts up, and you can easily remove the brush for cleaning. Since the brush on the Shark doesn't stay as clean as the Bissel, this is a nice feature. The LED light on the brush head is also nice. One more major feature is that it swivels nicely, and is able to reach under chairs, couches a bit easier than the Bissel. If you're a pet owner, both of these units do a great job on pet hair, the Shark moves easier and is lighter, but not having to remove the brush so often is a great help on the Bissel. Take your pic, both are nice units.

Love being able to remove the canister from the base while using it. Great for getting under small places like couches and tables. Lighter and easier to use than my other vacuums.

    Great alternative to a Dyson

We have a Dyson Animal with which I compared the Shark and I think I like the Shark better. It seems that Dyson had a great idea for their vacuums when they first came out (ie, the ball), but then they've kind of stagnated and stopped innovating. Shark picks up the ball where Dyson dropped it. This vacuum is easy to assemble, has great suction power, great angle coverage, great floor type flexibility and, above all, the detachable "tank." I personally feel like this is the best feature of this vacuum because it gives you an upright vacuum and canister vacuum in one. I believe you will be happy if you purchase this Shark.

    Learned a valuable lesson

This shark vacuum worked ok for a very short time. I had it for 6 years but hardly used it. After minimal use, the roller wouldn't spin. The roller was not bound up with hair or anything else and the roller still failed. I found that shark uses multiple sizes of torque screws to make it almost impossible to disassemble for repair. I found a Youtube video from a vacuum repair shop that informs that Sharks are common for this failure problem. On top of that, Shark does not sell replacement parts even if you are able to take it apart. They are designed to fail so you will buy a new one. I've learned my lesson and will not be buying another Shark product. This one's going in the trash. Stay away from Shark.

    Very powerful cleaning

I had been using an old Orek for about 20 years, and I thought it was cleaning just fine. One day it sputtered out and died, so I picked up this shark. While not the most intuitive thing to use, the cleaning power is amazing. I thought the Orek was doing a fine job, but after just 1 use in my rather small apartment, this thing picked up a massive amount of dirt and debris. Now I know why my socks always got so dirty before....

Great if you want to replace it in 2 years

This vacuumed worked great until I was vacuuming and it stopped mid-vacuum! I had it 2 years. I clean it after each use and always check the roller brush as well and clean that. I guess it could not handle some dog hair. Do not buy unless you like replacing your vacuums!
