Customers are saying
Customers appreciate the Wandvac's ease of use, lightweight design, and powerful suction, frequently praising its self-emptying feature. However, some users point to limitations in battery life and the dustbin's capacity, while others note that carpet cleaning performance may not meet the standards of larger, corded vacuums.

Sucks

Powerful and Lightweight
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When you first think of cleaning products you are usually looking for something that will fit your house, the size of your house and environment. This Shark Wandvac Self-Empty System, Bagless Cordless 3-in-1 Cordless Stick Vacuum is truly something unique and powerful. I live in a home that has kids and pets, so when I was looking at this I thought this is small can be sleek and hidden away. Upon getting it I opened it up and started setting everything up. The base area is small and fit perfectly in the laundry room. The overall stick and attachments were very lightweight which surprised me! I got every thing ready to go and all charged up which took about 4 hours. I have a 2900sq ft home and start cleaning, this powerful little stick vacuum really had pulling power. I was able to get every room in about 15 minutes quickly and still had some battery left on the first test run. After letting it charge back fully I did a full deep clean and it lasted roughly 50% of the house. The charge time wasnt long and was able to knock out the rest of the house. The empty feature was really nice and contained, because I really dislike all the dust and dirt blasting in my face after all that hard work. Overall this product is amazing and my wife loves how easy it is to pick up and clean a room quickly and be done. No cords, no mess.

Disappointing on Many Levels
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I immediately recognized a problem with this vacuum cleaner as I was unpacking it. Sadly, my suspicion was confirmed as soon as I tried to use it. The handle of the vacuum is so slick and straight that it is difficult to hold onto. There’s no gripper surface, no textured surface, no ergonomic curves or contours, no nothing on the handle to make it easier to hold onto…just slick white plastic. In the three days I evaluated this cordless vacuum I lost track of how many times it slipped out of my hand and fell to the floor. It was probably at least a couple dozen times. I'm sure I shortened the life of this vacuum considerably because of the number of times it hit the floor in just three days. Yes, I could purchase and wrap some gripper tape around the handle, and I will, but why should I have to do that? A self-emptying vacuum cleaner is an interesting concept. But in reality, it just moves the dirt from one collection chamber into another bin in the dock. The dock dust collection bin still has to be emptied and cleaned occasionally. I guess the only gain is that the extremely small dust cup in the wand is automatically emptied into the larger dust collection bin in the dock. After the wand dust cup has been automatically emptied by the dock you still have to remove the wand, open the dust cup, tap the dust cup screen lightly to knock off dust and debris, and then finally wipe the dust cup screen with a cloth to remove any remaining dust and dirt. Be careful when you push the dust cup release button on the wand because it has a reasonably strong spring which will pop the dust cup door open and could spill any remaining debris onto your floor. You’ll want to make sure you open it over a trash can. If you have to do all that anyway what’s the point of having the self-emptying feature? It doesn’t matter whether you manually empty the dust cup over a trashcan or return it to the dock and let it empty itself into the dock dustbin. Either way you’re going to be doing that a lot because of the small size of the wand dust cup. Days or weeks later, when you remove the dust collection bin from the dock, that will have to be emptied into a trash can and wiped out with a cloth because the metal screen seems to hold a fair amount of debris. Because the screens are metal there may be a static attraction holding the debris to the metal screen. Also, there are dock filters that must be wet cleaned and allowed to dry for 24 hours before reinstalling. The Shark engineers designed a machine that is short one accessory storage spot while the vacuum is in use in floor mode. If you break the machine down for storage the way the owner manual directs you to, there is a storage position for the upholstery brush on the end of the wand and another storage position for the crevice tool on the back of the dock. However, if you are using the vacuum in the floor mode then you have to do something with the upholstery brush. Possibly leave it laying on the dock or carry it around in your pocket. This is a small design oversight that will eventually end up causing you to lose your upholstery brush somewhere. I do have several positives. First, when you install the upholstery brush accessory or the crevice tool accessory into the wand they are locked into position and cannot be removed until you push one or both of the buttons below the handle of the wand. That’s a nice touch that will keep your brush and crevice tools from falling off the end of the wand during use. Second, the crevice tool has a unique hinged brush that you can pivot into position at the end of the crevice tool. When you’re finished with the brush you just pivot it back into its storage position. The Shark engineers effectively eliminated one accessory tool with this innovative design feature. Kudos. Finally, I was surprised by the decent sucking power of this little vacuum cleaner. After the decorations came down from a recent anniversary party there was a lot of glitter on our finished basement's ceramic tile floor. This Shark cordless vacuum in floor mode did a good job of cleaning up all the glitter without kicking it around the floor. That said, this is not a vacuum cleaner that you’re going to clean your whole house with. With its approximately 10 minutes of run time on one battery charge it’s more suited to staying in one room where it will be handy for quick vacuuming touchups. I plan to keep mine in my home office for use after I empty my confetti shredder. I usually make a small mess and end up with confetti all over the floor. This machine will be just perfect for cleaning that up. Especially after I wrap some gripper tape around the handle. After spending a few days with this machine, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is not a great vacuum cleaner but more of a self-emptying gimmick or proof of concept. If you can hold onto the handle while using it then I suppose it is a usable vacuum cleaner for a few minutes, but I don’t think it’s worth anywhere near its suggested retail price. In all honesty, I don’t think I could recommend it to a friend.

So lightweight and No More Dustclouds!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been excited to try this new self-emptying vacuum by Shark from the moment I saw it was released. As far as I can tell, self-emptying vacuum tech has been on the market in the robot vacuum family for many years, but it’s just now starting to make its way to the handheld and upright vacuum family. I know Shark makes a great vacuum and I’ve never been disappointed with their products, so as soon as I saw this new self-emptying Wandvac by Shark, I got it! The vacuum arrived safely packaged in a mid sized shipping box, containing the product box. The box is cardboard and so are all of the inserts, along with some poly bags, which is great if you like to recycle your product packaging like I do. The Wandvac Self-Empty System comes with everything you need to get started including the Owner’s Guide and a helpful Quick Start Guide. Once you get the parts unpackaged you simply click them together, plug-in the docking station, dock the Wandvac and wait for it to charge. There are only five main parts, along with a couple cleaning tools. The filters and battery are already in place. The Hand Vacuum clicks into the wand which clicks into the floor nozzle. The docking station is mostly assembled, though there is a post to slide and click into place. All together unboxing and setup only takes five minutes. My unit did come with a charge already, but I prefer to fully charge electronics with batteries before I use them for the first time. I did not time it, but the battery does seem to charge quickly. I’ve been using this vacuum for about a week now and it has been convenient to have available. It’s definitely not my go-to vacuum for a deep clean of my rugs and carpeting, however it’s nice to have around for daily messes and little cleaning odd-jobs that pop up from time to time. When the dogs track in some dirt/debris from outside or when I notice dust/hair building up in the corners and along the edges of the floor. A cobweb hanging from the ceiling or maybe a spider crawling across the couch! Whatever the situation, this vacuum is quick to tackle the challenge. And best of all, you don’t have to worry about a cloud of dust when you empty the bin. Just dock the vacuum, and within seconds it sucks out the dirt you’ve collected and stores it in the main dustbin until you’re ready to empty it. I own a couple other Shark vacuums, both corded and cordless. Compared to those, this vacuum has the weakest suction. That being said, Shark vacuums typically have powerful suction with my cordless Shark vacuum having the strongest I’ve ever owned. Although the suction may not be the best that I’ve ever used, it is more than adequate for most jobs and probably an ideal match for the dust bin size, which is quite small. This vacuum won’t pull up dust and grime from two years ago, but it will grab all the dust and debris scattered about the surface of your flooring. Even though the dust bin on the hand vacuum is small, it doesn’t seem to fill up too quickly. Probably because of the low suction. If it does get too full, you can either dump it manually by pressing a release button over the trash can, or you can dock it and let the unit self-clean, which only takes a few seconds. Then you can pick it back up and continue your cleaning job. The main dust bin, part of the docking station, is much larger and can accommodate many cleaning jobs worth of debris before you need to empty it. Once it is time to empty the main bin, doing so is very simple. Press the release button with your thumb and using the hand grove on the back, slide the bin out. Once over the trash can, another button can be pressed to release the door, allowing the debris to fall into the trash using gravity! It falls out without me having to touch anything, which is ideal. This vacuum is very lightweight and extremely easy to hold and use. It might actually be the lightest vacuum I’ve ever used, especially when only using the hand vacuum section. Even though it’s lightweight, the parts and construction are all very solid and appear to be very well-built, as most Shark products usually are, from my experience. The main floor nozzle works great and I love the Powerfins technology. Powerfins rollers from Shark are the best because they don’t get tangled up with pet hair and other long fibers like traditional brush only rollers. I also like that I can attach the floor nozzle directly to the hand vacuum to easily clean my carpeted staircase steps without the extra length from the wand. All of the filters can and should be cleaned regularly. There is one in the hand vacuum and there are two in the base. Just take them out, wash them with cold water and allow them to fully dry for 24 hours. A tip from me, to get them extra clean, is to let them dry in the full sun if you have that option. This helps to kill germs. Another tip from me is to put them in the freezer for a day after fully drying. I do this every few months to help kill germs. The Shark Wandvac Self-Empty System comes with a five year limited warranty that covers non-wearable components deemed to be defective. And it also comes with a two year limited battery warranty, covering defective batteries for up to two years. You do have to pay $20 shipping, but that’s acceptable. I appreciate these warranties, especially the battery warranty, as these can go bad sometimes. Overall I really like this vacuum and enjoy the extra convenience it has added to my household. I like being able to grab it for a quick mess and not have to worry about emptying the bin when I’m done cleaning. I really like how light it is and the wand attachment along with the Duster Crevice tool that help me to reach almost any spot in my house to give it a quick cleanup. I like that I can take it to my car for a quick vacuum of my rugs and interior without the bulk of a traditional corded vacuum cleaner. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a secondary vacuum for their home or office that’s lightweight, easy to use and cleans itself.

Shark keeps getting better.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My favorite Shark vacuum so far. Shark keeps getting better and better. This stick vacuum is easy to put together, does a great job cleaning, is light and can reach everywhere and best of all is the self empty system. Putting the vacuum together out of the box is a breeze. All pieces click together and are pretty obvious about how to go about it. Plug the self cleaning/charging station into an outlet and let it charge. The cleaning power is great. It picked up whatever I tried to get. Hair, dust, dirt, no problem for this machine. Pull the carpet fibers up as it cleaned, the wand with crevice tool got into corners, couch and chair sides, baseboards and made quick work of it. The brush tool made easy work of cleaning off the furniture and air vents. The swivel makes it easy to get around furniture and the vacuum lays down to get under beds, tables and chairs without a problem. What is new to me is the self clean system. And I love it! It is SO nice to be able to set the vacuum on the station and have it automatically empty the vacuum for me. It only takes a few seconds and then I can lift it back off and continue on. I was amazed at how clean it left the dust bin on the vacuum itself. It looked like I hadn't even used the vacuum and I had filled it with dust, dirt and hair. I highly recommend this vacuum.

Great for quick cleanups
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had a couple different Shark vacuums and all have had certain features that I really liked. I was hoping this would be a complete replacement for my entire home (1st floor hard surface, 2nd floor carpet), but it doesn't quite live up to that. This unit does work quite well on my first floor where all of the surfaces are hard (laminate) with a couple of small rugs here and there. The vacuum glides across the laminate with ease and the lightweight and ergonomic handle makes it very easy to control. It seems to pick up almost everything on the floor that I can see and I'm sure that the brushes making contact with the hard surface are doing what they are designed to do. On the rug in my half bath, which is a pretty long knap, it seems to struggle a bit, but did pick up all the dirt and fuzz that I could see. Battery life seems to be solid; I was able to vacuum my entire downstairs (~650 sq ft) and was still showing 2 lights out of 3 on the battery gauge. What I love most about this vacuum is the ability to just throw it back on the dock to charge, and it sucks all the dirt out into a larger dust bin. I've vacuumed a few times and have barely put a dent in the large capacity of the dock's dust bin, so I won't have to empty it anywhere near as often as the previous handheld vac that I was using (also a Shark). The ergonomics of this unit are very nice, with thoughtfully placed buttons/triggers that release the handheld vac from the extension wand/floor unit for getting things that aren't on the floor. The floor unit with the extension wand attached stands up on its own (without the powered vacuum head attached) and is ready for you when you go back to floor sweeping. If there was anything negative to say about the handheld, it's that the shape/design of the handle makes me concerned about losing my grip on it. This might be mostly in my head, but I would have been nice to have a flared end or something to make me not think that this could slip out of my hand while I'm pushing the vacuum away from me. The only other things I'm slightly disappointed in are that I wish the crevice tool had a spot to clip onto the vacuum when not in use. Kudos to Shark for providing a spot on the dock for it, but I would have liked for a spot on the vacuum, so that I wouldn't have to return to the dock to get the tool in the event I decide I need it; what can I say? I'm lazy :) Additionally, the brush head requires a flat screwdriver or something to turn two screws to access the brush/roller in the event something gets jammed in there. On my previous Shark units, there were spring latches allowed for easy, tool-free access. These are small and minor annoyances, but it still would have been nice to have. My previous units were constantly getting wrapped with my wife's long, thick, black hair; you'd think she didn't have any left on her head with all that I find in my other vacuums. So far, this unit doesn't seem to have any hair wrap, which is one of it's marketed selling points. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this vacuum. I don't think it's going to be a replacement for my completely carpeted 2nd floor, but is perfect for the hard surfaces on my main floor, which tends to be the messier area of my home anyways since it's where most of the traffic occurs.

Great 3-in-1 Hand Vac!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Shark wand vac 3-in-1 with self-empty system is an excellent hand-vac setup. The build quality is great and set up is super simple. In our household, we have 2 cats and and 2 dogs. So needless to say, we pretty much have hair everywhere. We have hard floors so the hair always ends up near the base boards or in a corner. This Shark wand vac does an excellent job picking up debris and hair from our floors. We have our 3-in-1 system stationed in our laundry room where the litter box is located. It has been so nice being able to just grab a vacuum off the charger, clean up, and then put it back. The best part is, no more worrying about emptying the debris chamber. Just dock the Shark and the system runs through an emptying cycle for 10 seconds and you're done. It works VERY well and we haven't had any issues. Our kids are responsible for vacuuming as one of their chores and they have been able to use it with no issues. It truly is a great product. The other bonus is the system has a relatively small foot print so it won't be taking up a whole lot of room where ever you decide to put it. Overall, I don't really have any complaints about this vacuum system. It works great, it's versatile and I definitely recommend it!

A Real Multitasker
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This vacuum is a jack-of-all-trades and covers the best of a few worlds for me. For one, I can use it as a standard hand vac, which is my primary use. In this role it performs nicely. It holds well in my hand, is lightweight and doesn't feel unbalanced. The dirt canister is small, but that's pretty typical for a hand vac. The vacuum's battery is also easily replaceable, however it would have been nice to be able to charge the unit without having to use the dock. It appears there's a separate accessory one can buy to charge the battery independently. The attachment "wand" gives the unit the necessary extensions one would expect. The unit also comes with a "duster crevice" tool and a "pet multi-tool." Oddly, only one can be stored on the dock at one time. Finally, there's a floor nozzle to give you that floor-vac capability. It's motorized and works fine, but lacks a light so you can see in some dark areas. When using this floor nozzle, I didn't find it particularly strong - and I'm guessing that it has to do with the vacuum itself. A battery-powered hand vac that also powers a motorized floor nozzle is going to have some compromises with sucking ability and power duration. I found it works best for light jobs. I also wish the hand vac had more than one power setting. But other than those complaints, this is a great vac to have in a small space. Before I forget, I really appreciate the fact that the dock can also empty out the contents of the hand vac. It starts automatically when you attach the vac to the base, BUT you also have the option to turn that part off and just charge the vac (the auto-empty function is about 10 seconds, but gets quite loud).

Small footprint and ok power but almost too small
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I actually like Shark vacuums and really enjoy how the company continues to innovate their product lines. I have tried several Shark Vacs and some I like and others I did not. This vac, I am still unsure about and have used it a few times now. First off, it is a small cordless stick vac with the newest concept similar to a robot vac, a self emptying dirt dispenser that the vac not only charges itself on, but also cleans itself out. The vac is lightweight and easy to maneuver around floors of all types. It didnt hold a charge for that long which is one big complaint, maybe to do an upstairs of 4 rooms, it died shortly after, even before cleaning the 4th room. The buttons on the vac are in weird places and I accidently pushed the wrong set of buttons which caused the dirt cannister to open and dump all over the newly cleaned floor. The attachments click into the bottom but to switch them out, you have to also push some oddly placed buttons. The sucking power is adequate, not the best but ok for a machine this size. After finishing I attempted to place this on the charger/self cleaning dispenser and it took me a while to figure out how to slide the vac onto the charger which took 3 tries. Once on, it cleaned out the cannister however I asked myself, why does this vac need a self cleaning base, when all you have to do is pop the dirt cannister button and dump it into the trash? Maybe I am missing the general concept here but there is literally no use or need for this self cleaning charging stand which actually takes up a good amount of space. In all, I am not sure I would recommend this to a friend and I would have a hard time using this for any big jobs.

Nice Vacuum for Small Jobs
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the Shark Wandvac Self Emptying unit because I was looking for a cordless portable vacuum to use around the house. I have carpeted stairs and needed a vacuum to use on the staircase and other tight places around my house. The package comes with the vacuum and the self emptying docking station. Assembly is super easy and doesn’t take up a ton of space in the house. You charge the vacuum by attaching it to the docking station. One really nice feature is that you can turn off the self emptying mechanism. This is handy if you have a job in the house while people are sleeping but don’t want to wake them up with the loud self emptying. Now let’s discuss performance. First and most importantly, the Shark Wandvac does a really good job at cleaning. The vacuum has a clear holder and there was a lot of dust and debris in the holder after I was done vacuuming. The vacuum is very light and super easy to maneuver while using. It’s able to make super angles and worked great in the staircase. My one complaint would be the battery life. I do not know what Shark advertised as the usage time but I was able to get about 20 mins on a full charge. This would work fine for a small job or spot cleaning but if you’re looking to get continuous usage or you have a large home, you may have to charge in between jobs. I vacuumed my top floor and had to recharge to complete to bottom floor (the vacuum battery died when I started my lower floor). The recharge time for the vacuum was about 2-3 hours. I took off a star from my review because this battery life is a little too short for my liking. If you’re looking for a lightweight portable vacuum to keep in a room or maybe somewhere that you do not want to carry a full sized vacuum, then the Shark Wandvac should work great for you. If you need a vacuum to do large jobs, I’m not sure this vacuum will provide the battery longevity that you need.

Awesome stick vacuuum system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This stick vacuum is a good vacuum in terms of it's size and power for it's size. When combined with the roller head which does exactly what it says in terms of pulling stuff out of the carpet it works really well on all the floors and rugs in my house. In terms of power it's nearly as powerful as my other stick vacuum on it's highest setting (which of course runs it dead VERY fast but this one doesn't run dead). It still works really well for carpet/hard floors and some upholstery. Coupled with it's self-emptying station that eliminates the mess associated with most stick vacuums, it's hands down one of the easiest ones I've used. It's completely bagless and the base station charges it and while charging it self-empties when it needs to so you literally don't have to worry about it until the base is full. It is light and small which is great and doesn't take up much room. The base station is nice which means no holes in the wall to mount it to the wall, a huge plus. Pros: Convenient self-empty system works well Bagless and doesn't make a mess to empty it Powerful roller system that works well on all floors Cordless and lasts more than 20-30 minutes in each time I've used it so far Ability to control/delay when it empties so it doesn't disturb during the night Includes tool attachments though with it's shape not necessarily the best to use in all scenarios Warranty offered by Shark is AMAZING- 5 Years, wow! PERFECT system for that quick light cleaning that keeps your house looking amazing No wall mount requirement - THANK YOU!! My walls appreciate it. Cons: Awkward shape/size for using tools to get in tight places Could use a bit more power or a higher "turbo" mode that may run battery dead quick so just to use for those places that are hard to get close to suck out Doesn't stand up on it's own or lean on things without falling over (which WILL eventually break it so be careful!!) Overall this is a good system. It's not intended to necessarily replace a large corded powerful vacuum for deep cleaning but this system does just about as good, especially when you have a system like this that makes it easy to keep on top of it. Just whip it out for 10 minutes, and put it up, and it enables you to keep your house clean.

Handy little vacuum with some great features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the Shark Wandvac for a couple of weeks now. Here are my impressions. First, the instructions are clear and setup is quick and easy. The charging base has molded-in places for all of the attachments (except the brush roll which I found slightly odd). Once it is assembled, I would highly recommend a full charge before using it the first time. Sliding the unit into the dock is foolproof and charging starts automatically. In use, the Wandvac is relatively quiet, it is very maneuverable and gets almost flat for getting under furniture and cabinets. The suction is impressive for such a compact vacuum and it easily picks up dog and human hair without clogging up the roller. Expect to fill the quite small dust bin on every use, mainly because it does such a good job at getting all the dirt off your floor, whether a solid surface, area rug, or carpet. (The dust bin is cleverly integrated into the vacuum in an almost elegant sort of way, if elegant is a word you can use when talking about a vacuum cleaner!) Here’s the fun part though—every time you put the vacuum on the charging base, it automatically dumps that small bin into a sealed one concealed in the base! It’s actually quite a nice feature. The bigger bin will probably hold enough for 15-20 self-emptying cycles before needed to be emptied itself. Battery life is consistent with other small stick vacs I’ve used—about 15 minutes—which is sufficient for most jobs. I like the fact that you can remove the wand and you have a handy and powerful hand vac that can really get into some tight or awkward spaces (like in a car), especially when using the small brush or crevice attachments. I have been impressed so far and hope it lasts as long as other Shark products I’ve owned in the past.

Great for fast, every day cleaning
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We recently renovated our house and switched from carpet to hard floors. This vacuum has been perfect for quick, daily cleaning of the traffic areas. It works well on the few rugs that we have, too. I've used other cordless stick vacuums, but this is the first one that empties itself. After using it for a week now, I'm hooked on the self-empty feature. It definitely speeds up the cleaning job when I can just pull it off the charger, hit the areas that need it, then slide it back on the charger knowing it'll be emptied and ready for next time. The dust bin on this stick vacuum is pretty small, but it holds a surprising amount of cat hair. With the self-empty system, though, now I don't have to make trips to the trash bin and make dust clouds around it each time I empty it. Now, I just stick it back on the charger and it empties just like the fancier robot vacuums. One difference that I like with this system is that the base station is bagless. The air is filtered by a dedicated filter instead of the bags. Instead of buying expensive replacement bags, now you can just empty the bin and then eventually replace the air filter once it's too dirty. The bin has a little window on the side so you can see when it's getting full and needs to be emptied. It seems to compact the debris pretty well, so I think I'll be able to go a month or more before it gets full. Also, if you don't want it to automatically empty the stick vacuum for some reason, you can hit a "mute" button on the base that will stop it. I really like the design overall. Instead of just a roller brush, it also has rubber blades that seem to grab things like cat litter better and not fling it everywhere. The base station is still fairly compact even with the self-empty bin and I really like the white color with gold trim. The one design complaint I have is that it comes with two attachments but only a place to store one of them. This must be a design rule of thumb: Always leave one attachment without a storage place. The battery life has been great for my use. It's all hard floors which does make a difference, but I'm able to vacuum a large bedroom, an office, two closets, a bathroom, and a hallway and still have plenty of battery left. If you're on carpet or have a lot of rugs, I'm guessing that would draw the battery down more. The noise level isn't too bad with it, either. The cats don't get too excited when I turn it on and start vacuuming. In summary, I really like this vacuum so far. If something happened to it, I wouldn't hesitate to get another one just like it.
