The door and the outer case were both hot too. The control panel was dark. What could cause this other than a manufacturing defect? I was lucky that it didn't start a fire in my kitchen. I guess the fail safe fuse popped. But why did it overheat to begin with? It wasn't running. I immediately unplugged it. I have no idea how a microwave can heat up like that when it's off and it's just plugged in. I've owned Sharp microwaves in the past that have lasted for 10 years or more. I won't buy a Sharp microwave again.

Oh, and don’t use the popcorn button for popcorn like my nephew did unless you want it burnt
