Customers are saying
Customers have good things to say about the remastered graphics, engaging story, and overall value for the price of Shenmue I & II. Many appreciate the game's place as a pioneer in the open-world genre, though some find the controls and voice acting to be dated. The HD upgrade is also frequently praised, enhancing the classic experience. However, a few players mention that the game's pacing may feel slow to modern players.

relive the story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.replay one of most famous rpgs series before the 3rd one comes out. these 2 games came out for the older generations. the remasters are not that big of an improvement if you want current generation graphics. just good for those that haven't played it before

Not bad, but for Adventure game fans.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This probably just wasn't for me, but as a new player I wish there was more signals to where to go rather than just "wander around asking people things" or "wander around to get your stuff back".

Shenmue on modern consoles
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's an alright game that pretty much revolutionized open-world games with set-timers. Yakuza game series would not exist without Shenmue. Not for everyone.

Can’t get into it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First time playing and I just can’t get into it. Heard lot of good things about this game growing up but after playing countless of modern games, it was difficult for me to enjoy this game.

A very bare bones port
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To enjoy the game you really have to look at it as a product of it's time. That means accepting the endless waiting for things to progress and the dated graphics and the very clunky controls, If you can accept that, you can find some enjoyment, but even than it doesn't excuse Sega's very minimal effort in bringing this to current consoles.

Very dissapointing entry into my favorite series
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I absolutely love the first two entries in this series. After waiting nearly 20 years, this game is a huge and tedious dissapointment.

Remaster
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. While Shenmue was a pioneer of its time, I would recommend to stick with the games that it inspired, such as Yakuza.

Audio issue at times but perfect gameplay
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The originals on the SNES cannot compared to this. These remakes are just perfect. We didn’t really have any issues actually playing the game. I do remember the audio would occasionally cause problems like cause humming or just not work. So sometimes we would just shut off the audio completely. We looked up a fix for it which involved changing the settings on your ps4 and they didn’t in the problem. But the audio problem didn’t occur for the whole game and they may have patched that up by now. It’s definitely something you can work around.

Horrible controls
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was purchased from BB along with several other games during the Black Friday sale. I have recently completed Horizon Zero Dawn and Nier Automata which I highly recommend. Started Shenmue I yesterday and the story immediately grabbed me and I am very interested in playing Ryo. I think the graphics and audio are fine. What earns Shenmue I a one star rating is the virtually unplayable controls. Holy guacamole Batman, I have never experienced anything quite like this before. Move the camera and it also zooms. Standing still and try to turn ..... if you don't wait until Ryo completely stops moving and touch the stick again there is no telling which way he is going to end up facing. I have never been prone to motion sickness but this game gives it to me. While I had no expectations for graphics or sound, I did have expectations that the movement would be normal (easy to control). Pay close attention to what the others that give the game less than 4 stars have to say. The controls are so bad I would return the game for refund if I could.
