This is a truly wireless DIY yourself system that is very easy to use/install/expand. But it does not really support self monitoring so be sure you don’t mind having to pay the reasonable monthly monitoring fee. Also there is no contract, just pay month to month. Positives: Totally wireless. Included in the nicely packaged box is; 1 Keypad – very easy to read and navigate 1 Base Station – very stylish and reminds me if a nuclear cooling tower 2 Motion Sensors 6 Door/Window Sensors 1 Key Fob. Large SimpliSafe monitor security sign for front yard with stakes Everything is nicely designed. Also if you go to SimpliSafe website you can easily order additional parts/accessories such as water or freeze detection. Initial setup was very easy – to start you just pull the plastic battery shield for each component, press it in place using its adhesive tape (you don’t have to screw it in unless you want to), press its test button and the keypad (which I carried with me while setting up) picks it up and asks you to name it (has a long list of pre-set naming options). Took about 25 minutes to get all setup. Took longer deciding where I was going to put the sensors than installing them. The keypad is navigated by pressing the screen edges (top/bottom/right/left) and I found its screen easy to read and its instructions easy to follow. It is very simple to add additional security codes as well as a panic code. Was easy to add to my wifi network The base station has a lighted ring that changes colors that corresponds to certain activity (white – all is good), red (alert occurred), etc…You can turn this off if you choose. Occurred to me this would be a great option if you are renting as it requires no drilling, etc….. Negatives; I have so far chosen not to activate the monitoring so I cant speak to how it works or how easy it is to contact SimpliSafe. As such some of the following may be due to not having it monitored. I choose to use my desktop to create my account and some of SimpliSafe website pages do NOT load if using Firefox. I had to switch to Chrome to complete. I refuse to use MS Edge – but that would be a different review There is a SimpliSafe android app but pretty much useless if not paying for monitoring. When home I was hoping to use the door sensors to warn us when a door had been opened as we have a 2 ½ year old grandson and an in-ground pool. The keypad does chime but it is so faint to be virtually useless and we do have it set to high. Key Fob is nice option but a tad large for my pocket. Also I could not get any alarm to sound when using away and entering without entering code. I tried several times and the only thing that happened was keypad had an alert and Base Station had a red ring.

I bought this system after recently moving into our new home and I am thoroughly impressed. It was easy to install and set up and I love that it makes our home more secure. The monthly service fee is fairly low and I got two months free from SimpliSafe!

The system is very good. Monitoring price per month is reasonable at less than $1/day. If your wireless internet goes down, the monitoring stops until wireless service is restored. No contract so if you want to stop monitoring there's no hassle. You can remote monitor using your cell phone which is a great feature. The only issue I've had with the system is the 2 sided sticky pads used to mount the sensors. Even though I cleaned the surface prior to installing, and pressed the adhesive for the instructed 30 seconds, I have had several sensor modules detach themselves. I've used up all the spare adhesive strips and will need to purchase more in case I need them.

Really like this home system. The only downside I’ll say are the stickies that are provided for the sensors. We had to get our own velcro ones, but other than that, really like the system

The SimpliSafe Shield Home Security System was easy to set up and quickly recognized all my home sensors. Besides the low monitoring fee there were 2 other features that swayed me to purchase this system. One was the water monitors, which will set off the SimpliSafe alarm which alerts you to water leaks. I placed them near my hot water heater, my laundry room and in my bathrooms and kitchen sink. The other feature I like is the glass break sensor. It can detect breaking glass from a distance of up to 20 feet in any direction. So if someone were to break any window the SimpliSafe sensor would set off the alarm system. This is one feature not currently found in other DIY home security systems. By the way, I had to purchase extra sensors for my house and BEST BUY had the lowest price.

Easy set up, easy use, and a solid product. Had the whole system installed and running within an hour. Can't say enough about the easy set up, if it was any easier, it would come out of the box installed.

Very nice system and price is great, but I did not want the monthly monitoring company and fee. But you have to get company monitoring to get the personal remote monitoring that you can use.

Monitor Svc Not Reliable-Smoke Sensors False Alarm

Monitoring Service is extremely unreliable. A smoke sensor sent a false alarm at 6 AM. The monitoring service did not call first before dispatch. A huge fire truck arrived, with three persons, completely dressed out for a fire. Simpli Safe refused to replace the defective smoke sensor, and stated absurd excuses for the false alarm. Simpli Safe stated the monitoring service was supposed to call before dispatch, however it is still alright they did not call first. Even refused to be certain it does not happen again. Stated for me to call the monitoring service. In looking for smoke sensors to replace all the smoke sensors I have, I found numerous complaints in regards to Simpli Safe Smoke Sensors. Many persons stated they have not ever had false alarms with other smoke sensors, and only with Simpli Safe. The same experience I have had over 40 years of having smoke sensors, without false alarms. Not one false alarm until having a Simpli Safe Smoke Sensor. I have only had Simpli Safe smoke sensors for several months. There will very probably be a very large bill coming from the fire department for the false alarm. It absolutely did not and does no matter to Simpli Safe. I am gradually going to toss the Simpli Safe Alarm System and replace it with a ring alarm and smoke sensors. I know a person with Ring alarm and smoke sensors. They never have false alarms. It is very notable Simpli Safe guarantee to replace defective sensors is beyond completely worthless. As noted above, Simpli Safe refused to replace the defective smoke sensor. Simpli Safe Smoke Sensors are made in China!

    Missing self monitoring

SimpliSafe – Shield Home Security System. This system comes with 6 door/windows sensors, 2 motion sensors, a key fob, a keypad, and the base unit. It also has 2 stickers for windows and 1 yard sign. It connects via Wi-Fi and cellular. It uses the Wi-Fi and cellular connections for monitoring services. It will also check for updates using these same connections. My review will be for the system itself, no monitoring. It was as easy to setup as it says. Plug it in, turn it on, and set a pass code. Start setting up sensors and do the final system checks. It is really that easy. I ordered 2 extra windows sensors for the house. The boxed setup seems suited more for an apartment than a 3 room house. The extra parts are easy to order and are cheap enough to not break the bank. My real complaint on the extras is the camera, it’s not good for outdoor use. Looking into buying the camera it states that it requires power, just like everyone else’s does, it also requires Wi-Fi. They make the statement that you can view the camera from anywhere on any smart phone. That’s not possible if you don’t pay for the $25.00 a month plan. They leave that part out. In order to monitor your system you have to pay them. Even though the base unit links to your Wi-Fi, you are not allowed to access your system from your smart phone unless you pay the biggest fee they have. I get why you don’t get monitoring without paying. But to have something that can access the internet and yet can not be monitored with a free app is a real draw back. Every part of the system to app interface is right there, they just step in the middle to stop it from working unless you pay. I would be willing to bet they lose a lot of sales over that. More like people return them once they realize you have to pay to monitor the system yourself. Imagine how many more they could sell if the app was free, with adds, and then the adds would be removed once you stepped into a payment plan. This system could be a security camera system total replacement if the smart phone app was free, just like almost all of the security camera systems are now. Overall the system does not get good reviews on the internet. Most of the bad reviews are from long waits to talk to someone about a problem their having. This is not what you want to have happen with a security company. You need someone on the phone now, not 45 minutes from now. I did call them myself, I am not joking when I say it took me 2 days to get through. Long waits until I gave up for 2 days in a row. On about the 5th call on the 2nd day someone answered the phone after about 10 minutes, and they had an attitude problem. Throw in a free smart phone app, with adds, to monitor your system yourself. Turn it on if you forgot to set it before leaving the house. Get notified when something happens, or a camera picks up something. Then when people see how useful the system is they would be more willing to pony up a monthly fee for offsite monitoring and recording. Someone to call you and say, hey, did you do this? What’s your safe word. Then call the police when you don’t answer or give a wrong safe word. It just seems like greed to force you to pay even more for something that should be supplied. This system, for the price, should include a free app that allows you to monitor it yourself. Pay the extra every month if you want to have someone else deal with it, record events, call you, call the police, you get the idea. The system itself seems solid and easy to use. It’s the greed of the developers that’s getting in the way. Right now a security system, fully installed, will cost about half of what this does, but you pay for monitoring. If this system cost twice what a regular system does, but limits what you can do, it’s only useful in apartments or dorm rooms. Throw in a free monitoring app with push notifications, and adds, and this thing would fly off the shelves. They would sell more, get add revenue, and end up with more customers. If you live in an apartment, or a dorm room, this could be exactly what you need. Something to make a lot of noise when someone enters without you knowing. Without the app it’s really not suited for a full size house.

Pretty good and affordable system that would not tie you down for contracts. The package comes with a keychain remote that makes it convenient for family members who are not tech savvy as the remote only has 3 buttons labled : off, home, and away. Phone app integretaion also works flawlessly and would give you push notifications if a sensor alarm. I signed up for their professional monitoring per month and my wife accidentaly forgot the code to shut alarm off and monitoring team reached out to us but also dispatched police just to make sure out family is fine..overall, the system works great and you can feel the sesne of extea protection.

      Posted .

Thanks for the feedback, Kari. "Not responding" errors can happen if those sensors are having trouble checking in with the Base Station. That could be due to the sensors being a bit too far (though the range over open air is 800ft!), or there might be interference from physical objects or other wireless devices. Give us a call at 800-548-9508 and we can troubleshoot! SimpliSafe
