Perfect for the cabin
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This package is perfect for my cabin where I do not have WiFi access. I was very pleased to get it set up running strictly over the cellular service that is built into the base unit. I was able to install multiple door sensors, including one on the garage that is about 100 feet from the house. That sensor picks up on the base unit without any issues. I also installed a couple motion sensors to get started. The process of installing was very simple. It took no more than 30 minutes to unbox everything, peruse the instructions, place the sensors, and get the sensors configured against the base unit. The adhesive strips on the back of all the sensors (and the keypad) made installation a breeze. I did have to call customer support when getting the monitoring activated. It turns out that the cellular coverage for the default cellular provider is a bit weak in my area, so they are sending a new module to insert in the base unit that will put me on a different cellular provider (and give me better coverage). All works fine now with the current provider - but I understand this will provide a better connection. In all, it was about an hour to install and get monitoring set up. The install the process was very intuitive and the system is very easy to use. The same can be said for the mobile app that I installed on my phone. I saw a recent article suggesting that Simplisafe is planning to release an outdoor camera. This would be very compelling for me to be able to get a live view of what is going on. I've already looked into mobile hotspots that would provide the WiFi coverage to support that. Anyway, that is where I'd like to go next. A+ all around...

Easy set up.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The SimpleSafe Shield Home security system is a great buy for those looking to up their security in the home. I can't speak to the monitoring service yet. Time will tell how that goes, but the plans are certainly reasonable. Set up was very simple with everything being wireless. Take it out of the box, stick the sensors and motion detectors where you want and you are basically done. Should only take about 30 minutes to an hour to set up. If you are looking for a wireless, and easy to install security system. This is it.

Definite upgrade to the original
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had the original version of this system, and I purchased it after doing a lot of research. I wanted something that had home monitoring, but at a reasonable price. I thought the original version of this was nice, but it lacked in having a somewhat antiquated interface and components. So when I saw that Simplisafe was upgrading, so did I. Everything revolves around the base station, which connects using cellular service. It also has battery backup should your power go out. That is a great feature. The previous version looked like a some kind of old air freshener. It was not attractive and made you want to hide it vice display it. The biggest upgrade is the keypad. It’s really nice now and you can actually take it off the wall and leave it in another room if you so please. So if you plan on going in through the garage vice the front door, you can leave it by the garage door so you can get to it faster. Also the interface is now what I would consider to be on par with all the other providers. Much smaller, much nicer and much more intuitive. Finally, all the components, be it door/window sensors or motion sensors, are all much smaller and to me so far seem more accurate. Something shadows would set off my motion sensors. Now I have not had that issue yet. One note is the previous systems are not compatible with the old. So keep that in mind if you want to upgrade. You will need to replace the whole system, not just parts. Definitely worth the upgrade, and I still pay the same for monitoring service.

Easy-to-Install Home Security, with a Few Faults
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.INITIAL THOUGHTS: First off, regarding SimpliSafe, if you don’t know who the company is, I recommend reading up on them, as they are among the higher-ranked DIY security system companies. I’m not making any claims that they “are” the best…only that they are “among” the best. With that being said, their products are also one of the most affordable DIY security systems, one of the easiest to install, and one of the most flexible in terms of available components & monitoring plans (NOTE: A monitoring plan is NOT required, but it DOES provide the full array of features & functionality. Compared to other DIY security system, SimpliSafe’s systems tend to rank higher than the great majority of them, as well as being more affordable. SETUP: With that being said, installation is extremely simple. I’m not going to go into detail, as it is, for the most part, “plug & play”. I mean, seriously, it doesn’t get much easier. My only complaint is the size of the door/window sensors. At 3” x 1.25”, it is larger than most others. On the plus side, it can be installed up to 2” from the magnet, thus creating the possibility for you to install it out of sight…say, on the outside of the window frame, where potential intruders won’t be able to see it. The base unit can be installed wherever you want, including out-of-sight (ex. in a closet, inside your AV cabinet, etc). The LEDs on the base can even be disabled, thus making it more difficult for an intruder to realize what the unit is. Likewise, the keypads can be placed anywhere (you can purchase additional keypads, placing…for example…one near the front door, one near the back door, and maybe one in the master bedroom). Compared to their older SimpliSafe 2 system, the SimpliSafe 3’s components (according to company information) are more reliable, battery-backup has been added, and a larger selection of additional add-ons has been developed. MONITORING: Purchasers are more than welcome to forget about a monitoring plan, but, in doing so, you lose all the benefits of what a true security system is all about. When signing up, you will be presented with the “Standard” and “Interactive + Alerts”…but SimpliSafe DOES offer a third “Alert” option. In order to get this option, I suggest calling SimpliSafe’s customer service. Regarding monitoring plans, again, a monitoring plan is NOT required for the system to function…but it does add considerable benefits & features. Pricing is as follows: “Standard” @ $14.99/mo, “Alert” @ $19.99/mo & “Interactive + Alerts” @ $24.99/mo. The “Standard” plan includes 24/7 live alarm monitoring & cellular connection to emergency services. For those wanting slightly more, the “Alert” plan adds SMS/Email alerts. Finally, for those who want everything available, the “Interactive + Alerts” plan adds the ability to arm/disarm from anywhere, & “Secret Alerts”. A “Secret Alert” is receiving an SMS and/or email when a sensor is tripped but does not trigger an alarm event. An additional benefit of the “Interactive + Alerts” plan is the ability to remotely change your system’s settings. CONCLUSION: The first two questions most people probably ask themselves is, one, do I really need a security system, and two, is it really worth is? To answer the first question, you need to think about what you have inside your house, and whether, or not, you consider it valuable. By “valuable”, I’m not just referring to the “financial” value, as the “personal” is not only equally-important, but, to some, it is even more important. Do you want, or need, to protect those items (“items”, by the way, can also include the people living there – wife, husband, kids, parents, etc – and they are MORE VALUABLE than anything else in your house). Once you’ve realized that the answer to the first question is “yes”, then the second question becomes much easier to answer. Once these two questions have been correctly answered, the bigger question comes up: Do I want to install myself, or hire a professional company to install? For those who want someone else to do all the work, or who don’t have the time (honestly, the SimpliSafe is not only simple to install, it’s also VERY fast to install), then, by all means, hire ADT, or any of the other companies. They’ll do a great job, you’ll have the security you want/need, and you’ll have expended very little effort…but, you’ll also be locking yourself into a contract with minimum terms (usually 36 months), plus you’ll pay a lot more for the monitoring service. On the other hand, if you’re the DIY type and/or you just prefer installing yourself, then a DIY security system kit, such as SimpliSafe’s SHIELD, is your best bet. Sure, the initial out-of-pocket expense might be more (I say “might”, because such is NOT always the case), but you’d be paying a LOT more in monthly monitoring fees…some can be as much as $50-100/mo. With SimpliSafe’s plans in the $15-25 range, you can take all that money you’ll be saving, and put it towards more useful things, such as a new computer, 4K TV, or, better yet, a motorcycle…ok, just kidding on the motorcycle (or am I?). While the SimpliSafe 3 SHIELD Home Security System isn’t perfect (is anything?), it does whjat it’s supposed to do, it does it for an extremely reasonable price, the monthly monitoring costs are very minimal, and installing & setting up is quick & easy. The ONLY reasons I’m not giving this a 5-star ratings is because of the large window/door sensors, and the lack of ANY self-monitoring functionality/features without a paid monitoring plan. Disclaimer: This product was provided free, or at reduced cost, for the purpose of reviewing the product. Nevertheless, the above review, be it positive, negative, or anywhere in-between, is a 100% honest review, and the price paid played absolutely no part in my review.

Easy to use, replaced Comcast Home
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a regular Comcast home security subscriber with the triple play. I liked the system but only had what was included (4 sensors, 1 motion detector, 1 camera, and 1 keypad). The only thing is that my bill progressively goes up. So I decided to switch to this. The first thing I liked is what you get: 6 sensors, 2 motion detectors, keypad and key chain "clicker". It did not include cameras but I already have the Arlo multi camera system. Out of the box I hooked up the hub, stuck all of the sensors everywhere and connected everything up via the app. Very user friendly and had no issues with installation. I was pleasantly surprised. I then signed up for the cheaper monitoring option, I end up still saving money VS Comcast. I then used the monitoring via the app and was very impressed with how easy it is to use. I feel like I am a double winner because it is very easy to use and I save money VS my old alarm system. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an alternative to a paid subscription from one of the big companies.

Modern and sleek design. Easy to set up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the old system during black Friday and promptly returned it. It was an eyesore to look with outdated sensors and keypads. New Shield system looks modern and small. I got the $369 system from Best Buy with free camera. Set up and activate are easy. I got everything done in 45 minutes including activation. Use the mobile app and txt, I can monitor myself before dispatching. The siren is loud but I would recommend to get 105 db one. Cons: The free camera is pretty much useless, you have to pay extra fee to save your clips on the cloud. Otherwise, you can just view live. I have other cameras from Foscam and I don't need to pay. When the alarm is off, the flashing red light from the camera is very annoying.

Easy setup
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I received this for review. The setup and i installation put of the box was easy. Everything is wireless. The base station uses cellular tech but can also be connected to your Wi-Fi which I did. There is mounting hardware for the keypad if you so choose or you can simply use the sticky tape which I did. The sensors only use sticky tape. The sensors are wireless. So there is no need to run cable throughout your house which is nice. The sensor and magnets can be approximately 2in apart. There is a two tier package. Just to add the app feature you have to pay more which is pricey. However they say you can add a camera later if you so choose and not pay more. Still for peace of mind it is a nice option as you can get notifications whenever something changes or happens. I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. The motion sensors did not sense them. That's good cause I don't need called or a push notification that one of them is found moving. I'm still getting use to it but it is a fairly simple system to use.

Easy Home Security for monitoring
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am heavily invested in a smart home. I have two Arlo cameras, smart garage door, smart lights, Nest Protect, Nest Thermostat, Google Home, etc. The Arlo is nice for security, but it is limited.. You get a 10 second clip when it detects motion and it can turn on (very) loud alarm. But I wanted home security that was a little more fool proof, or maybe a bit more comprehensive. Simplisafe is a well known product, if you've listened to any podcast in the last 5 years, you've heard about it. It is designed to be plug and play. For the most part, it is exactly that. In terms of ease of installation, it really doesn't get any easier. You pull the tabs to hook up the battery connection for all of your devices, and use the included adhesive tabs to secure the items where they need to go. For the money, you get a lot. You get six door sensors, two motion detectors, keypad, base, and keyfob. You also get some stickers and yard signs to deter potential thiefs. While it's a good deal, keep in mind that you will need to purchase additional items (more than likely) if you want comprehensive coverage. The entryway/window/door sensors should go on every outside door and window. I have a small house and have 3 doors that need coverage and 11 windows. So there's an additional investment. It's better to know how many additional accessories you need when purchasing the bundle so you are prepared to install everything at once on day one. Back to set up. It's pretty straightforward and the setup guide does a great job walking you through it. I put all of the sensors in place and then took the keypad around with me to setup each device. It didn't take much time at all. I've read online (not from Simplisafe) that you should hide the base to prevent thiefs from breaking in and smashing the base which sends the signal to the police. I heeded this advice and put the base in a corner. While the keypad seems like the brains, it's actually the base, which communicates with all of the devices and connects to the internet via WiFi and cell signal. While it is easy to setup, MY BIG COMPLAINT is lack of home integration (I don't think Nest Thermostat really counts). That includes app control. I'm not quite ready to invest monthly on a subscription service of coverage. That means, I essentially have a "dumb" but capable loud speaker when someone tries to break in. I decided that for now, that was all I needed to deter thiefs. But see, that means I don't have access to the app controls. I hear the app is basic anyways, but I would like to see some Google integration. I cannot really comment on the service it provides. I can assume it is capable, but again, I'm not yet willing to invest. When I go on vacation next, I will likely bite the bullet to make myself feel better. I want to make one more comment about connected home and systems. Simplisafe can be pretty comprehensive. If you're just now getting into the smart home foray, you could purchase all Simplisafe devices (from cameras, smoke detectors, to water leak detectors). That is an intriguing option to me. The problem, this is just for me, is that I am already heavily invested in a smart home with other devices that don't necessarily play nice with Simplisafe. It doesn't mean Simplisafe isn't a worthy product, it's just for me, I find it difficult to invest in their cameras (which I would presume work well within their ecosystem) because I already have Arlo cameras. And lastly, I made a big deal about Google Home integration, this is only a small complaint. I really wish I could self monitor and receive text or app alerts on my phone without a subscription. Having that ability would work well within my smart home ecosystem. At the end of the day, you just need to think about the smart home you have now (if any) and how this fits within that system. If that's not a concern and ALL you want is a security system with monitoring services, this would be a fantastic choice.

Easy to install and use Security System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently received the Simplisafe Shield Home Security system. I'm replacing my existing Simplisafe 1 system. Design: The new Simplisafe system looks fantastic in my opinion compared to the original. The home station has a slick modern look along with the new keypad. The door sensors are much smaller the previous ones and also have a more modern look. Installation: Just like the previous Simplisafe installation was a breeze. I loved how this time around all of the devices come preinstalled with the appropriate double sided tape. Setup took a few minutes. App: Just like in the previous version of Simplisafe you need to have the $24.99 monitoring plan in order to use the app features. This is a big CON in my opinion. Why not throw in the app features with the $14.99 plan or pay an extra $1.99 a month for the added app features or $5.99 for the app features alone. Overall, this is a good upgrade over the previous version of Simplisafe and just like before is easy to use and install.

Great alarm system!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Having already been a long time Simplisafe customer, I was excited about the new system. the 2nd gen system had its quirks but overall functioned well. This new system is a major improvement on an already relatively robust system. The first feature that stands out to me is the addition of the ability to connect to wifi. The old system lacked this ability and sometimes, when the cell signal was lost (NO LINK TO DISPATCH) you were just off the grid till signal returned unless you bought a special adapter. I find that with the wifi connection, editing features, setting alarms, and receiving notifications is MUCH faster and more efficient. The new sensors are much smaller and to me, more pleasing to the eye. They are easy to install with either adhesive strips or screws, your choice. My only complaint is that the old sensors do not work with the new system, rendering my old system relatively useless. The motion sensors have been completely redesigned but appear to function like the old. I really like the new keypad. It has a bigger, brighter screen that allows you to edit more of the features of the system then the old keypad could. My two most favorite features of the keypad are that the buttons now have a back light allowing you to see them in the dark, and the keypad automatically lights up when you reach your had out/when you touch it. This is awesome as sometimes when I need to arm/disarm my keypad the lights are not on. The new base station is relatively the same size as the old one. It is advertised that it has a 24 hour back up if the power goes off. The speaker is louder and clearer which is a nice feature. All in all, a great improvement on a great system. Buy it, you won't be disappointed!!

A Good Home Security System w/ Few Quirks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is really a 4.5 star review. Let me say that I had no prior experience with a home security system before this, but am so glad I now know that I need one in my life. The SimpliSafe Shield is perfect for my needs. I'll break it down very quickly here: PROS: the setup is very easy, and honestly packaged together in a way that is intuitive. It took about 15 minutes total for me to get my motion sensors, base, entry sensors, and PIN entry areas throughout my home. After that, navigating through the options made perfect sense, and setting up the different alarms, HOME and AWAY, to use different pieces of equipment was also easy. The security systems themselves seemed to pick up on everything they needed, and the full range of coverage seemed true to the claims. The chimes and voices were loud enough but not obnoxious, and everything worked. The equipment is really true plug and play, and the devices will walk you through with voice and text hints. The base has built in WiFi and Cellular capabilities, meaning if the WiFi goes out you're still covered based on cellular to contact someone. There are no contracts to sign, and the monthly subscription fee of $15 for Active Monitoring is very reasonable. The devices look nice and feel solid, and everything looks like it belongs in a modern home. CONS: this list is short, but should matter to some depending on how you need your system. The SimpliSafe system is a proprietary hardware system, meaning you can't use their stuff with others', such as ADT, Arlo, etc. Also, while cheap, the monthly subscription is pretty much necessary for the system to actually do anything. As other reviewers have noted, the self-monitoring service (which is still paid) won't alert the authorities, and is still paid for. If you don't pay for any of the services then you simply have a device that will make noise and tell people when they're in your home. Other than that though, I'd totally recommend this. The only reason for the 1-star deduction is due to the way the monitoring plans are setup, but everything else is great.
