Took several months to install and get online. I had to get an electrician, wifi extender and cable check (very expensive). Finally, got installed and online. Worked for a week then went offline for good and couldn't be fixed. Was unable to receive a refund from Best Buy or Simplisafe. Cost me $150.00 plus cost of Simplisafe doorbell. Would NOT recommend this product. Purchased Nest doorbell and installed very easily and online first attempt.

I had the first one installed by Geek Squad. It worked for two weeks. While working it was very slow to load and you had to restart the app every time you use it. I have the fastest internet possible in my area (1 Gigabit) The picture quality at night is horrible too. Then it died. Geek Squad just replaced it yesterday and the new one just died today. I will get a different Video Doorbell. I don't have time for this anymore

    Good Camera

I purchased this camera to go along with the simpisafe security system I already had. The camera came with all the necessary hardware to set it up quickly. Please note that this camera ONLY works with the mechanical “DING-DONG” type doorbells. Electronic doorbells are not compatible. If you are replacing the standard doorbell button you are going to have to drill at least one hole as the bracket does not line up with one of the screw holes. The instructions call for you to loop the existing wires around the screw. The clearance is kind of tight, so I just tightened the screw down making sure that the wires were making the proper connections without looping them around the screw. Also, there is a blue piece of cardboard that gives you an idea of where the camera will sit, make sure you remove this before screwing everything down. It does come with a wedge to adjust the angle of the camera up and down but there is no adjustment for left and right. However, the field of view is very wide so this really shouldn’t be an issue. Once I got it all in, it connected to my WIFI without any issues. However, I did have to uninstall and then reinstall the app in order to use al of the features. The video quality is excellent and the night vision works rather well. I do suggest that if you have a porch light that comes on automatically at night, that you turn the camera’s night vision off in order to maintain the color image at night. All in all, I recommend you add this to your system if you already have simplisafe with central station monitoring. For all others, its a very good camera and can give other cameras a run for their money.

So sorry to hear that you had trouble. Unfortunately yes, our Video Doorbell Pro is designed to plug into an existing wired doorbell system for both power and sound. But we also have the Wireless Outdoor Camera, which can run on battery or solar power, so you have a lot more freedom to install it wherever you like! SimpliSafe

Drops WiFi all the time, finicky with power source. Expensive to use. There are better options out there since this came out. I just swapped out and it’s night and day. This device is a waste of money.

Horrible. Bought three of these and the tall feature would not work. Spent countless hours on the phone with Simplisafe too. Ended up getting a Ring one and it’s great.

$5/mo unlocks the features you need/want

Are you willing to spend $5/mo to have a video doorbell that does all the things you want it to do? If you answered "Yes" then this is the doorbell for you. [If you answered "No" then keep searching...] I'd give an A+ to design and installation. The design is fairly slim given all the components that go into making a device like this. It is also stylish and looks at home, well...mounted to your home. It is about twice the size of my old, standard button doorbell but still managed to fit on the trim of my door frame. Installation was a breeze as all you need to do is unscrew and pry off your old 2-wire doorbell, attach a mounting plate (and optional "angle mount" if on siding), attach the two wires, slip the camera piece onto the mount, and put in a proprietary screw (comes with a screwdriver that fits the screw head) to keep people from stealing your camera. As for the wifi setup, download the app, sign up for an account (or use an existing SimpliSafe account, I suppose), then follow the app instructions. One of the cooler features was using your phone to generate a QR code that you hold in front of the doorbell to make all the wifi and account connectivity happen. And the quality is good. Not the best but above average image quality. The camera angle is nice and wide (I think 160°) and can help you see packages on the ground or people standing off to the side of your doorway. Here's what I don't like...and what I am pretty sure I DID NOT MISS when looking at the product's webpage before selecting... There is no live notification, snap-shotting, etc. unless you pay $5/mo for those features. I had previously used a camera-only solution for monitoring our front door that offered 24-hour video retention and instant app notification for free (with a paid option of 30 day recording). I assumed that the SimpliSafe Pro-Smart Wifi Video Doorbell would include some form of basic app screen notification and either screen captures or 24 hr video storage out of the box. All the app does is (screen 1) offer setup/activation options, (screen 2) buttons to launch live viewing of your camera or add more cameras, and (screen 3) timestamped text log of doorbell activities (i.e. no activity, "someone rang your doorbell", and "camera recording"). Given the video doorbell has features like motion sensing, high resolution, night vision, and the ability to talk through the doorbell to someone at the door, you would think at a bare minimum "someone rang your doorbell" could record a picture at the time the button was pushed or take a 3-5 snapshots when motion is detected--all for free. Equally frustrating is that the phone records events but doesn't alert you with a pop-up. You must check the app manually if not paying for the monthly service. I understand there is money to be made through an app after the initial sale, but essentially, without buying into the $5/plan or having an existing SimpliSafe whole home security system/plan, this fancy wifi doorbell won't make life any easier. There really is no "value add" without the $5 features.

Purchased one, wasn’t able to set it up. Called SimpliSafe for help- they said it was a defective device. They would send me a new one. They did, that was also defective. Returned the Best Buy one, exchanged for new one. Also defective, got another one from SimpliSafe, that one worked for 2 days then never got it to work again. Complete garbage.

Setup was very easy. Just replaced the existing doorbell and used the same wiring and it was up and running in about fifteen minutes, including connection to WiFi using the app. It includes a security screw and special screwdriver. My other doorbell does not include those simple but effective tools to prevent somebody from stealing it. It has a minimalist design and I personally like its look. Image quality is good with daylight but also good in the dark. It has a slight fish-eye effect but not enough to annoy me. The motion sensor works every time. I just wish the neighbor’s cat stopped crossing my front door as that causes the camera to send a notification a few times a day. One feature that one of my smart doorbells has and I really like is face recognition but the Simplifsafe Pro does not have that capability yet. Maybe it is because there has been some complaints about privacy but the notification “familiar face detected” would work for me. I wish it recorded videos for at least a couple of days but it requires a $4.99 monthly subscription for that. If you already use Simplisafe Home security system and pay for the service, you may get a discount or make it part of the package to add video recording. SimpliSafe home is cheaper than other services, so you might want to consider that. Here are the Pros: - Two-way audio similar to big brands - Easy installation - Notifications - Good size – not big but not too small - Good camera quality And the Cons: - No face recognition - $4.99/month plan is not expensive but is a requirement to record video - No easy way to change horizontal angle adjustment - App needs some improvement

It seems like these days you are always hearing about someone getting packages stolen off of their front porch. I decided I wanted to have one of the new video doorbell products to protect my home. So I decided to give the Simplesafe a try. I initially had some difficulty getting it installed because when I removed my existing doorbell there were no wires behind it. I discovered that for some reason my house had a wireless doorbell. I didn't even know those existed. But once I got that situation taken care of getting the Simplisafe hooked up was a pretty simple operation. The supplied instructions make the process easy to follow. It took about a half hour. Once the doorbell was installed completing the set up was easy. The camera takes clear pictures. The night vision also works well which I like as I do not leave my porch light on at night. The speaker on the device is a bit clumsy to use however. There is a couple of seconds lag between when you speak into your phone to talk to whomever is on your porch and when the sound actually comes out of the speaker. One thing I wish the Simplisafe came with was an angled trim piece so that I could aim the camera more out towards our walk way instead of only looking directly across from the doorbell itself. I would like to be able to see someone as they walk up to the door. Also the device itself it pretty thick. I'd say it sticks out about 1-1/2" from the side of the house. Hopefully they will continue to improve on the device and future models can be made slimmer. The bottom line is that the Simplisafe does what it is supposed to and does it well.

The installation instructions looked really simple. They just omitted some vital information. Even a licensed electrician ($180) couldn’t get it to work. I’m waiting on an additional part from SimpliSafe but almost a month after purchase it still isn’t working. I’m not feeling very safe

If I knew this thing was gonna be this much trouble to install I would’ve returned it. Bought this back in May and still having trouble installing it. Looks like I’m out of $300. I should’ve just bought one and returned it. Shame in me. Won’t happen next time!
