Product work as it should, record with Sub
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was the first video doorbell I had set up, and required a little more set up to install due to the security system the previous owners of my house put in. Once I got the wiring back in place, the camera was very easy to install! The camera definitely works well enough for me, it does have a decent camera, it's not the best thing you've seen, but it works well enough for my needs. I get a few packages delivered while at work and also use it to check when the kids get home. There is a paid subscription to record video, but being that I just use it for small day to day, I like the two way audio and monitoring features. The design isn't too bad, not as fancy looking as some other products, but I like the faceplates you are given, allows you to have a choice, and not be stuck with what you bought. The SimpliSafe - Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell is a good product that well for me, I would definitely recommend it for those looking for an easy product to us with your existing wiring.

Garbage
||Posted . Owned for 7 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unless you enjoy troubleshooting electrical systems and placing diodes, resistors, and anything else you can think of to resolve the inherently poor design of this doorbell camera - buy a Ring instead.

Missing basic features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We've been looking at getting a smart doorbell for a while and was excited to get the chance to try this one out. It looked similar to another one we had our eyes on but wouldn't be able to install. This one checked off the easy to install box, as well as, the aesthetic box on our list. The doorbell was extremely easy to setup. During setup we got kicked out of the app once during activation. After that, the remainder of the process was seamless. We rang the doorbell as a test and were surprised at how fast the app alerted us. The picture quality is pretty good, and the microphone is strong. We noticed that the mic picks up even the smallest noises outside. There is also minimal lag while watching "live" through the camera. There is also a lag with voice. Also, they should have included a left/right angle plate not just an up/down. Very strange and honestly should be added as a free upgrade to those who already have it and included in future boxes. Our doorbell doesn't face the street so we can't see anyone coming towards the house until they reach up to the door. However, there is a huge downfall with the app. The three toggle screens are a waste. The major problem is: We were busy in the house when a delivery man rang the doorbell. Once the app actually opened after the bell was rang, we noticed there is no playback option available. Not only is there no playback, but there's not even a picture, a snapshot, there's nothing besides an almost pointless text that there was someone at the door. With the lag of the app opening you've already missed the person at the door. We figured out that we have to subscribe to the monitoring service to have access to seemingly standard features such as those mentioned above. We think it's quite a step backwards to have a smart device like this without providing the most basic/simple features without requiring a service subscription. Competitors offer playback for a few hours up to 24 hours free of charge. Seeing that this is in the same range as the others, this should be a basic and free add on. Hopefully that comes with any future updates, if possible. Because of the app and lack of screenshots or short videos, the doorbell is almost useless. At least you get a notification with the sound of the bell on your phone (which I like) so you will at most know someone was there. Or be prepared to watch the app 24-7 to catch a delivery or thief in action. Unless you are already invested in the Simplisafe ecosystem, this may not be the best doorbell option for you. Hopefully if a couple of these things change than I can recommend it. Until then look elsewhere.

Great Door Bell/Camera
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had my SimpliSafe system for quite some time now. Originally had a second gen system but upgraded to third gen once they offered existing customers a significant discount if turning in their old systems. I do not believe this door bell would be compatible with the older system. Anyway, just like the SimpliSafe is easy to install, so was this. They say everything you need to install is in the box, but depending on your current doorbell and doorway, there's a decent chance you'll need a drill, which I have. Once easily installed, the set up was just as simple. I've read other reviews about a changing chime, but my doorbell is mechanical, not electronic so the ding dong works correctly with mine. The video is outstanding. True 1080p. There's about a 2 second delay in sending and receiving voice and the outdoor speaker could be a little louder, but otherwise all works fine. If you buy this from Best Buy, you get interchangeable face plates. Buying it from SimpliSafe, I did not. From what I can tell, this is similar to other door bells in regard to size and function, but is a good deal cheaper. The motion detector appears to be pretty sensitive, I get notifications regularly. Not sure why. the literature indicates it doesn't pick pick up vehicle movement, but apparently it does. If you have a SimpliSafe system and pay the full monthly fee for monitoring and remote access, there is no additional charge for this unless you have more than 9 other cameras and it works seamlessly with the current system. I strongly suggest this upgrade.

Nice, but even nicer if you pay for a subscription
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SimpliSafe - Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell - Wire- White The design of this video doorbell is pleasing to the eye. It's not much bigger than many of the existing doorbells, but it does so much more than your ordinary doorbell. Installation is pretty straightforward when you're replacing an existing doorbell. Just be sure that your current doorbell has electric power. {Some of the newer doorbells are wi-fi models, and they don't have the needed electrical wiring.) This unit requires power to work. Turn off the circuit breaker supplying the power to the doorbell before starting to install the new unit. After removing your current doorbell, replacing it with the SimpliSafe doorbell shouldn't take more than 20-30 minutes. It's important to note that there is a security screw that keeps bad guys from stealing your unit (the special screw and screwdriver needed for installation are included.) Once you've installed the SimpliSafe unit, be sure to turn the power back on. Once that's done, it's time to download the needed software to your Android or iPhone. You use this downloaded app to finish setting up your wi-fi connection and then you're in business. The app allows you to speak to anyone who rings your bell or comes into range. The voice and video quality are excellent, but I experiences some lag in the response time, probably due to a slow internet connection. The app also allows you to watch live video, but you can't take pictures or retain video without subscribing to their monthly $4.99 service. If that service were included at no cost, this would be a real contender. However, without the subscription, the usefulness of this product it limited.

SimpliSafe Doorbell is really simple and reliable!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I heard several weeks ago about the SimpliSafe Brand, good things, so I was curious about this new SimpliSafe Doorbell. The SimpliSafe Doorbell Camera is a practical and good product for several reasons. Starting by the easy setup and installation, the way the APP has being designed and the material that it is made, I am very pleased with this product. Mine came in white color, the material looks durable for outdoor use, the instructions seems to be not very detailed, but I realized at the end about the simplicity of the overall installation which it was good for a non-experienced guy in technical matters like me. So, the unit comes with a single wedge to adapt it to shingles or clapboards. It includes a security screw with a special screwdriver to prevent from someone to steal it and it comes with a baseplate angle adapter that allows you to angle it up or down. I installed this option and the Camera view is great. The install was simple, just remove the existing doorbell button, screwing the new SimpliSafe Doorbell Camera onto the wall, connecting the two wires, lets say that the only “hard” of the entire install was to drill the two new holes for the doorbell. However, you will need to wait a good 10 minutes after the wires were connected to allow the unit charge the internal battery. It will now work immediately after the connection, not even to ring the bell, so you have to be patient. When it has reached enough charge, you will see the light ring come up, and then you can try to ring the bell. Once that is done you are ready to continue the app Installation, connecting to wifi, it will ask you to “scan a code from the phone to the camera, and that is it. I noticed about the internal batt because when I removed it from the bracket while I was adjusting the screws, the doorbell continued working. The basic configuration that is setup by default with the app is more than enough for my needs. However I also noticed that there are more options available o if you purchase the SimpliSafe Recording Service which I think for $5 per month. I really like the Motion Detection, and the fact that the ring surrounding the button lights up when somebody is close to the doorbell, that will make aware anybody in front of the door that he/she is being watch, which I like a lot, also your phone will be notified with an alert too. I installed the app in my Samsung cell phone, and my daughters Iphone, and it works very well on both. If someone rings the doorbell you will get a notification on both phones, as well as an entry in the timeline app. Basically, this is all you need to do with the SimpleCam APP, that can be found on Google play or Itunes: Click on setup Simplecam… Then type a name for your property… Click Next… Enter your WiFi Network Click Next. Enter your password…Click Next. Choose where the doorbell will be located. Click Yes when you see the flashing ring white light Finally a QR code will be generated which you will let the camera to read it, you can go back and check if the camera was successfully installed. Click the cameras icon in the menu and it will show your current devices. To record the live footage, you can click the record button. To talk, click and hold the mic button. The gear icon on the upper right corner to get into the camera’s settings: Motion detection which has off, low, medium and high Motion notification On or Off Doorbell Ring notification On or Off WIFI Setup Night Vision – On Off or Auto Status Light On or Off It has, lets say a Self-Chime when you press the doorbell, which I found kind of peculiar. The video quality on daytime is neat. Video quality at night is good too. The IR emitter is enough to light things with great response. The two-way Mic/audio is clear. There's a mic button in the app that you can press and hold one time when you want to speak, whenever you're viewing video from the doorbell, there is a delay which is normal for all these units, but I cannot say it is a problem. Overall the audio quality is good. You can adjust the Motion Sensitivity, especially useful if the unit is facing the street. Or you can even turn off. I also notice that at the back of the unit there is a reset buttom, so you can started everything over again, and there is a Microusb port, I wonder if that is a way to keep it charged so you can move it to any other place once is wifi configured. To recap, the SimpliSAfe Doorbell camera is awesome with very high quality images, reliable live notifications, and durable material for outdoor. The app is easy to use and well design concept too.

Easy setup, clear video
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Pro Smart WiFi Video Doorbell from Simplisafe is a handy solution to any home's security needs. It is an affordable and easy way to keep an eye on visitors at your door, communicate with guests when you're not home, and keep a close watch for packages left at your door. Getting it up and running was very easy; I had no trouble mounting it, and when it went online I had a very clear view of my entire front porch area. The app is pretty straightforward, maybe a little too simple and bare for the free features. It's $5/month for the premium options, which I did not subscribe to for this review. From the app you can see live video and incidents which will alert you when it senses motion depending on the sensitivity selected. The quality of video is very good, even further out past my porch area stretching visibility clear to around 15 feet in sunlight. It looks fairly clear in night vision as well. An added plus is the ability to communicate 2-way audio through the app. I'm satisfied that the doorbell logs events in "free mode," and the option of the cloud subscription to index and record video is a plus. I didn't experience any drop-off in connectivity through two weeks of testing thus far, so I'm optimistic in this product's reliability compared to my previous video doorbell experiences. Overall, this is a very good product in its initial state, and it has the potential to be even better for users willing to subscribe for the service. Full disclosure, I was given this product for my honest, unbiased review.

Easy Install, Reliable, 21st Century Doorbell
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SimpliSafe - Pro Smart Wi-Fi Video Doorbell. A very easy installation followed by reliable operation. I’m not sure why I waited so long. SETUP: I’ve been delaying installing a video doorbell, and you probably share the same concerns. I didn’t want the problems of batteries, the balky Wi-Fi or the poor image quality. SimpiSafe skips around my objections by: 1- It directly connects to my current doorbell wiring, and even uses my existing chimes. No batteries to overheat, freeze, or replace. 2- Physical installation was really quick and easy. My existing doorbell holes were aligned perfectly. Advice: Go to the OPTIONAL INSTALL instructions on the insert brochure to get help on using the angled base. I needed it on my bricks. 3- The Wi-Fi connected after a very effective setup process. [Suggestion to SimpliSafe: It’s here that SimpliSafe needs to ensure that their instructions, the App's responses and displays, and the commands to the user are all aligned. I had to recycle through some instructions until I could more forward. Not sure what I was doing wrong, or whether I just needed more patience to let the process catch up.] OPERATION / PERFORMANCE: Without any subscription for video storage or monitoring I still have a wonderful DOORBELL. I still have an APP on my phone which lets me view my entryway. I still have NOTIFICATIONS that someone is ringing my doorbell, a view of the visitor, and a microphone that provides AUDIO at my doorway and a SPEAKER to talk with the visitor. The camera works day or night. A motion sensor lets me know someone is there even if they don’t ring the doorbell. I thought the horizontal viewing angle was exceptionally broad. The vertical angle of view was more limited, to the point where I used the angled base to direct the camera upwards a few degrees to capture faces. Now I can’t see the base of my door, but that’s OK. With the subscription, you get video monitoring on SimpliSafe’s cloud service. As it is, there isn’t a way to grab a picture, let alone save a segment of video. I’d suggest that SimpliSafe at least enable a screen capture right there on the App LIVE VIEW screen. And, the SimpliSafe doorbell is really attractive, in a modern, futuristic way. SUMMARY: This is a doorbell for those who want minimal aggravation. It was easy to install, pretty easy to connect to my Wi-Fi, and now I’ve got real-time visibility of my door area. Easy to recommend. At least one image capture should be an easy feature to add in a future update even without a subscription.
