Excellent choice for Simplisafe customers
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had this doorbell installed for about 3 weeks now. All in all, I've been very happy with it. Notifications are quick, the motion sensitivity picks up what it needs to and seems to ignore the things it doesn't, and the design is very nice, much nicer than the Ring doorbells in my opinion. The only issue I've had is that after installation, I had the dreaded buzzing coming from my chimebox in the house as others have reported. I called Simplisafe, and they sent me a chime connector at no charge. A week later I had that installed, and the buzzing went away completely. Very satisfied. If you are already a Simplisafe customer, it's a no brainer.

Great Video Doorbell

Limited doorbell without SimpliSafe subscription

Pictures are clear and audio is good. However, the biggest issue is you cant record video without a subscription.They should have a feature where video is stored for 24 hours or 72 hours like other camera system. Yes i would recommend if you have A SimpliSafe subscription but not if you are using as a stand alone.

Awesome product!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have heard of Simplisafe for awhile (My parents have it) but I was intrigued by their new doorbell for my home. I don't have a system but I might get one in the future so I wanted a product from someone I trust. SImplisafe did a nice job with making a product that from everything I can tell is just as good as everything else out there but cheaper. Setup took me 5 minutes and the app works seamless. I am very tempted next time on sale to buy a system now!

HD never looked so good with the wide angle lens that captures almost 5 houses across the street. Installation was a snap and phone app works as advertised. Motion sensor needs to be improved but has been promised in November software update.

It has been great so far

I got the free indoor camera when I bought the system from Best Buy and it works alright during day time. I've been looking for doorbell camera and almost bought a Nest. Glad I waited! Best Buy just had a deal of the day sale of the Simplisafe system with free doorbell camera. I bought it and added more sensors and keypad to my old systems without any issue. Set up the new doorbell camera took me around 30 minutes since I had to drill two new holes, installed the plate, and set up the WiFi connection via the app. It has been working great so far. Only one issue I have now is the 2 way audio is low. Someone at the doorbell camera can hear me but I can't hear them well from the app. I'm using Samsung Note 9.

It's A Start But Major Improvements Required

While I was very impressed with the quality of the picture of this product that is where my favor for the product stops. Personally, I feel that the technology could be much better than it is. For starters, there is no way to make adjustments so that you are able to create designated areas to avoid all the alerts that you receive. In addition, the interaction platform is very basic and featureless. I received my unit FREE from Simplisafe (Contest) and I am so happy that I did because I am so not impressed.

This is head and shoulders above the rest!

Even though the other doorbell was supposed to have "human detection technology", I would get an alert when cars passed or when wasps hovered in front of it. The result? I got a notification every 5 minutes on my phone. Next choice? Turn the motion notifications off and still get the notifications for when someone rang the doorbell. Guess what? I COULDN'T DO IT. You either get both notifications or you get nothing! Fast forward to the installation of my SimpliSafe doorbell. Yes, I can turn the motion sensor alerts off and keep the doorbell ring alert and yes, I will also hear the doorbell alert on the base station without a chime installed and guess what? They really do have "human detection technology" that really works! I haven't had to turn of my motion notification because the only time that I get one is when an actual person is on my porch! This is a great doorbell!

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We had to replace an original Nest Hello doorbell (pre-Google - ah the good ol' days) and since we already have a SimpliSafe system we decided to add the doorbell into the listing of other SimpliSafe cams we have. That's a plus, and it allowed us to go with our current choice of home IOT management - Alexa (removing google home). It's a doorbell - it's a camera. They seem to entirely forgotten this is supposed to be a security device. The doorbell rings if pushed (duh) but: - Camera is NOT proactive about someone getting close to our door - Camera starts up once someone RINGS! Slow start up of video is also a problem with their recent exterior camera offering. - No one who has rung the bell has been able to hear me speak or understand me if they can hear me and audio is not processed without delays and drops - No other activity zones, so no notification if someone comes into your yard and starts digging or worse - Like most of SimpliSafe components now - costs too much for the functionality. - proper equipment for mounting was NOT supplied (Nest supplied a masonry drill bit) - A vertical mounting wedge was included, but we needed a horizontal wedge. IMO, most homes have flat siding/walls at the doorbell and not angled lap siding, so the horizontal wedge should be included. SimpliSafe has made progress since it started, and we became a customer, but they are starting to slide back into the "toy system" category instead of building up into a serious home security contender. I am the home IT guy, so I have to consider what my "customers" easily use - this fit easily into the familiar SimpliSafe environment and their existing skill set. For me, my security concerns are weaker due to this choice. I only recommend this camera IF you have existing SimpliSafe in place - it's not a good place to start.

It sounds like there might be an issue with the Motion Detection feature on your Video Doorbell Pro, as it should be picking up people approaching, and initiating recordings that way. We do have a Horizontal Mounting Bracket, which may actually improve motion detection as it does best when subjects are moving across the view. We strongly recommend reaching out to our Support team for assistance!

More security, loving it

I love how this camera picks up and knowing that my place is safe. Get one get one fast it's amazing. and if you're not good with wiring hire someone to install it.

Poor product with known issues.

This one would only pick up a person a foot from the door and would not pick up a vehicle in the driveway no matter how close. Upgraded transformer no improvement and have mesh router. Called SimpliSafe Customer Service, now outsourced out of country. No help. Promised a call back got none. Apparently a known issue. Would not buy again. Replaced with an Arlo and no problems with it.

Humming Noise

Once connected though it would only go Ding and not Dong. Then there was a constant humming noise at the doorbell chime. This was very annoying and there is apparently a fix from simplisafe called a chime connecter but it is not included in the box. The video is clear but laggy and the audio is laggy too. I would give it more stars if there was no humming and less lag.

Don’t waste your money

Not good if you have a strong wifi password
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I should first start out by saying that I love SimpliSafe and have their security system in my home, where it's been trouble free. I was very happy to see that SS came out with a wifi doorbell camera as I was not happy with the one I was currently using, and bought it pretty soon after it came on sale. Installation was a non-issue, so that was good. The problem is setting it up. You have to use their app, which is not a problem, particularly if you already have SS in the home (as you probably use it anyway). The app asks you to put in your wifi name and SSID (password), and then generates a QR code that contains this information which you point at the camera so that the device can use it to connect to your wifi. This is all well and good.. except if you have a strong password to your wifi that includes ":"s or ":"s -- which mine does. Because when the QR code is scanned, the info contained in it is, itself, separated by :'s and ;'s, so the info it reads looks something like this "Username: <your username> ; Password: <your password>;" The :s and ;s signify breaks in information. Since my password has an ; or a : within it, it messes up the scan, and in the end, nothing happens; I wasn't able to continue setting up because the app was hanging, confused by the symbols I used and reading everything incorrectly. Since I wasn't getting anywhere with it and wasn't about to change my password (and, then, reconfigure the 20+ things I already have connected to wifi in my house) just to accommodate this one device, I had no choice but to return it. Frustrating, because I was so looking forward to it working and am sure it works well. I'm a little annoyed too that SS doesn't have a workaround for this... Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up on that situation to anyone who also has a very strong wifi with special characters. I'd still recommend it because it is SimpliSafe, but just be aware of the silly little flaw it has.
