Once installed the SimpliSafe Whole Home Security System is like having an invisible force field covering over and protecting your property 24/7. It has in its armament 9 integrated security technologies in a bundle to protect your home from most dangers. This wireless and Wi-Fi enabled security system is equipped with a base station, a wireless outdoor security camera, a wired indoor security camera, a ‘smash-safe’ keypad, 4 entry sensors, and a motion sensor. A battery backup is integrated into the base station so that if you lose power the system can continue operating for up to 24 hours. In addition to notifying and alerting you via smartphone, a 95 dB siren will blare locally – loud enough to get any intruder to think twice and then head for the hills. SimpliSafe has been innovative from the very start, pushing the edge and challenging old security technologies. My understanding is that the original system was created because the inventors couldn’t find a security system for apartments (rentals). So, they built their own! They’ve pioneered “Fast Protect Technology” which results in fast response by first responders. SimpliSafe offers other optional professional monitoring services. Professional monitoring ensures that your house is always guarded, even if you’re away. I chose to self-monitor since I don’t travel much and have a good system in place should something occur. SimpliSafe invented Fast Protect Technology to provide users with an even faster and more reliable response when an emergency occurs. For the entire system to work optimally and as designed, the system will need a monitoring subscription. Contact SimpliSafe to set that up (note: the first month is free). When all pieces are in place, and monitored remotely by agents, the innovative hardware, and applications, greatly improves the overall product usefulness. The full system will provide optimal and accurate emergency response times. FPT automatically sends alarm texts and critical alarm notifications. With my smartphone, if there is an event, I’ll receive a text message the instant an alarm goes off. Remotely I’m able to check in on the system and could get help or to cancel the alarm immediately. I’ve used another security system; this one was by far the easiest to set up. With fast protect technology and the excellent app software I can control the security system remotely, allowing for me to cancel a false alarm without having to go through a monitoring agency or having to run back home to reset it. My old system had many annoying false alarms. With the alarm text feature most of that problem is eliminated. My neighbors surely appreciate that false alarms are a rarity now. Self-generated text alerts from the system may come in handy if some other emergency occurs and you need help quickly (assuming you are signed up for monitoring). This is a great safety feature to have in your home to protect yourself, and your loved ones. A monitoring agent will get your system’s message and dispatch people to help you immediately. There are many options available for a home security system, the choices are nearly unlimited. The SimpliSafe system stands out for its ease of use, ease of installation and configuration. Plus, it’s portable, so you don’t need to hardwire it into your home. If you are in an apartment, the system can be packed up and taken with you when you move out. I highly recommend SimpliSafe. Just a good product. Worth every penny!

A great [almost perfect] solution for apartments!

Finally! A product designed with apartment dwellers in mind! Setup is as easy as pairing/naming the sensors/devices with the keypad, removing the adhesive and sticking to a surface. Seriously that easy! There is an option for most of the equipment to be screw-mounted if you want a more permanent installation, but for an apartment dweller like myself, I love the idea of being able to unstick and re-mount at my leisure (even if I do have to buy more adhesive down the line). The other genius part about Simplisafe is how modular it is. I can purchase an additional keypad and have one by the front door and one in the bedroom. I can add a glass break sensor (not a concern currently because I’m on a top floor), water sensor, smoke/CO2 detector, temperature sensor, key fob, extra wall-mounted sirens, etc. The sky (and your account balance) is the limit! Simplisafe has also been working to rapidly expand their ecosystem so in addition to all of the previously-mentioned sensors, you can now add a video doorbell and smart lock - great for someone who is just making the leap into smart home. Of course the biggest advantage of this is accessibility from within a single app. The app is very well organized and easy enough to navigate and configure how you want (i.e. entry and exit delay timing). 1 month of professional monitoring (subscription) is included and there’s no contract if you want to go beyond that (more on the advantage of this below). Support is very responsive - it literally took less than a minute to get an agent on chat. I was able to find out the estimated battery life for all of my sensors and keypad (since they’re all wireless) - which is around 3-5 years and that the batteries are replaceable. Things you should know/consider (possible cons): - A subscription or “professional monitoring” (~$30/mo. Currently) is the best way to really the most out of the product. A free trial is included but without this you lose some major functionality like cellular backup for your base station, secret alert and video recording (you can only live view in real time). Additionally the subscription gives you a warranty on all your equipment for as long as the subscription is active and a 10% discount on add-on hardware purchases. Additionally you may be eligible for a discount from your renter’s/home owner’s insurance for having monitored service. - A guest access/profile feature with limited access would be beneficial (i.e. when you have someone house sitting they could have limited app access versus just a pin code - which is limited to 4). - There are too many plans. Simplisafe needs to simplify this and be more transparent about what functionality is lost without a plan (the cameras are basically useless without one). - Simplisafe should upgrade the base station to include a higher-quality embedded battery versus throw-away recharge-ables. - It would be great if Simplisafe added third party integration - i.e. if my Hue lights could flash when the siren was activated and/or if there was functionality where the indoor camera had a listening feature that could detect the fire alarm in my apartment and push notifications. The Simplisafe rep suggested that with monitoring, this could be possible, but their answer wasn’t very confident in this actually being functionality and their website suggests otherwise (as this is on the wish list part of the website). TLDR: this is a great, easy-to-use, and modular system that you can truly build out the way you want. If your an apartment dweller, looking for a security system the design makes this is a no-brainer but a subscription/monitoring plan is the only way to really get the most out of it so be prepared to open your wallet some (although it has its benefits).

Almost a 5 Star System, lacks smarthome meshing

SimpliSafe is an excellent company. Several years ago, they spearheaded the "DIY Home Security" push that ended the dominance of high-priced professional installation companies (i.e., ATD). We've had a few of those companies for our security needs from 2009 to 2014 before we went with Google's Nest Secure. Unfortunately, Google ended its support for Nest Secure, so we've been scrambling to find an alternative. We narrowed it down to Simplisafe and Abode. Simplisafe has a better reputation and has been "in the game" for longer. They have a simple (pun intended) setup that goes against the complications of smart home capabilities. So, if you're like me and have several smarthome features you like to connect from device to device, Simplisafe may not be for you. It does work with Alexa, Google, and August Smar locks when it comes to arming the system status, but it doesn't mesh with Nest cams (which I have many already installed) or our smart lock on our front door (Yale). SimpliSafe does work with August Locks, but I'd love for their system to be available for all and not just one specific company. All of that may not be an issue for every customer, in any case. If you are starting from scratch and need cameras, doorbells, or door locks, Simplisafe is excellent because they have all their products that work seamlessly together. This 9-piece set has an inside camera, an outside camera, four door/window sensors, a base, and a keypad. That's a great setup for anyone wanting only partially to commit. You can always get the doorbell and doorlock later when you've decided Simplisafe is what you want to go with. I, on the on the other hand, have a Nest doorbell as well as a lock that's not compatible with Simplisafe. That means that when I unlock the front door, I manually disarm the security system when I enter. That's not a huge deal when I enter the front door because the keypad is right on the other side of the door, but what about when I come in through the garage? Simplisafe offers a keychain to turn it off, but I'd love to see Simplisafe mesh with other products to make their system truly "DIY." Again, other systems do this and are open-source. If we're judging Simplisafe simply from their products and not how well they work with other products, you can't go wrong with them. Their customer service and passion for their company are very evident. Their products work very well. The sensors are straightforward to install, and you will not need much help setting them up yourself. The Android/Apple apps are excellent, too. This is where many companies shortchange themselves. But everything from the UI to the connections works well with Simplisafe. I've yet to come across a "perfect" app, but SimpliSafe is as close as they come to being super reliable. The products' look is another aspect they knock it out with. I love the look of the base. It looks like a diffuser that can easily be placed anywhere in the home and the right place. The sensors are small enough not to be an eyesore, either. And the cams need to be more bulky and obvious-looking. You can compare them to other company's latest cams in the looks department. The outside cams are wireless, while the indoor cams are wired. All in all, I'd encourage anyone to try out Simplisafe. They've proven to be one of the "kings of DIY security systems," and they have helped change the game in this sector. I wish they'd play well with other products because so many of us have purchased cams, locks, and doorbells that should work with any security system. After all, it is possible, and if possible, I want every security system company to do it (like companies do with assistants).

    Great expandable basic security!

This SimpliSafe security system is a great basic security system right out of the box. You can add to it as needed, up to 100 connected items. Installation is simple and quick although there are a couple of things in the instructions that could be reordered to prevent retracing your steps and it took several attempts to get the outdoor camera connected. The ground floor of my home is H shaped and 4800 square feet (very spread out). The sensors had no trouble connecting to the base station during or after setup. The only distance hiccup is that when I take the keypad to my den, I get a message that it is too far from the base station, yet all of the commands work from there. The phone app guides you through much of the setup and allows you to control the system from your phone. Once physically set up, you are guided through setting up a free trial of active monitoring and getting a local alarm license if one is required. The system sets itself in a practice mode for a couple of days so that you can learn the system without triggering an actual alarm. So far, the system works as it should. Fortunately, I've had no need for contact with the monitoring office. In the past, we have sought out an alarm company that was locally based. The local companies knew that there was a thunderstorm happening and that our alarm was likely false and set off by the storm. Each of these local companies eventually sold to companies that were half a continent away. There are no local companies left here. The large distant companies presented a number of issues. Most of the time an alarm was triggered neither of us would receive a call, but the police would. The police response to false alarms resulted in fines. The distant companies wouldn't repair our system. They claimed parts weren't available, the system was too old, it wasn't one of theirs, so they didn't know how... and wanted us to spend thousands on a replacement. Lastly, getting out of the contract and or auto-pay was dang near impossible even though we were contractually allowed to quit. SimpliSafe offers me an inexpensive solution to most of my issues with past alarm companies. The equipment is wireless, inexpensive and simple to replace if needed. There is no long-term contract. While there is no local monitoring center, I have high hopes that a company with month-to-month contracts will seek to do a great job of monitoring when compared to companies that don't care because they know that they have you locked in a year or so at a time. I will be adding several more entry sensors, motion detectors and perhaps cameras. My wife is interested in adding key fobs that control the alarm, panic buttons and extra keypads so that all of the entries have one. I will likely not install glass breakage detectors because in this home as well as the three before it, a large percentage of my false alarms came from glass breakage detectors during storms.

Excellent Selection of Components for Whole Home

This is my Fifth SimpliSafe Security system, have employed SimpliSafe at my Home and two Businesses dating back to 2018. Simply stated, “what I like is the feeling of enhanced safety for my family and home” and our businesses. Have served us well for reliability 7/24, monitoring 365 days a year without fail and backed by excellent support. The SimpliSafe 9pc Kit I am reviewing is a great choice, and a good starting place for Home Security and Small Business. It offers the 2nd Generation Motion Detector, four Entry Sensors for doors/windows/cabinets, Outdoor Remote Camera, and one indoor camera for monitoring. The kit also includes Base Station, and Wireless Keypad. Installation is a snap and can be up and monitoring your home in little time. Takes no special skills and does not require any wiring. “Open box, Plug it in, Protect Home.” The whole system is “Simpli” easy to understand, very intuitive. First started with the SimpliSafe system at a small business I owned and had been using another well-known security system that over the years continually raised my monthly service bill. Was not happy with that environment in the least. It was a blessing when we switched to SimpliSafe and able to save a tremendous amount of money over the years. That’s the Real Bottom-Line. Like the flexibility of no yearly contract and there are three levels of monitoring service available. Fact is after I installed the first SimpliSafe I replaced a larger system in another of my businesses a short time later and then installed another in my home. Confident our businesses are safe during the day and night, while we are away, and more importantly is trust the safety of my family to the system. This current 9pc kit is being merged into a wider SimpliSafe system at home. Widening the coverage for our home, detached garage/shop, 3 acres of yard within my 8 acres of woods and monitoring 150-yard driveway. Multiple Keypads, multiple FOBs, camera monitoring and detection inside and out, motions sensors as well as entry point sensors throughout. The system operates on both Wi-Fi and Cellular communications, which is an absolute requirement of mine. If Wi-Fi/Internet is down the system will continue to communicate to the devices and to SimpliSafe’s 24hr monitoring services. The base station has backup rechargeable batteries which should run 24hrs if (and when) electricity is down. If electricity is off past the 24hrs battery limit you can replace the installed batteries with fresh ones to keep the system online. Simply said, I have trusted the SimpliSafe system for Five years of service. When I need assistance, their staff is readily available, knowledgeable, professional, and always helps with any issue. It’s a complete system of security and would encourage anyone who is looking for a solid security system to give SimpliSafe a close look.

Easy to install, solid whole home security system!

This system is very easy to install and setup to provide peace of mind when you're not home that your whole home is protected and secure. This system would be great for a smaller home and with the cameras it provides that extra layer of security for your home. Setting up the system is a snap, identify a location for the sensors and mount them using the included clear instructions. The system literally walks you through setting up each piece so there's no confusing/frustrating setup and the way Simplisafe designed it, almost anyone can do it. For the hardware, the system is solid, the sensors are accurate and reliable and the best part is nearly everything is wireless. Having had a system previously battery life in the wireless devices like door sensors and motion sensors is great and they're easy to replace when the system notifies you that they are low. Obviously this system is new so I can't say how long all the wireless stuff will last on batteries but I would imagine it'll be just like my old sensors, with exception of the wireless camera. The alarm is super loud and would easily get the attention of anyone nearby your home so as a stand alone system it would work but the subscription is really worth every penny and doesn't require a phone line or anything special to use it outside of your internet and uses a cellular connection when it's not available. As for security cameras, I like that the storage and streaming is available with the subscription, it essentially combines what could be several services in to one and provide real-time monitoring of your home. The best part is, you can easily expand your system at a later time adding more sensors, cameras, alarms, etc. and the SimpliSafe app will notify you based on pre-determined trigger events that you can setup and control to minimize false alarms. In terms of integration, it does integrate to your smart home so you can use your smart assistant with it in your smart home. Video quality from the camera is great and with the plan you can control how it records events and choose to opt in or out of video verification which enables the monitoring center to determine if there is actually a problem if you are not available and send the appropriate authorities. The system is surprisingly good at identifying people and not other things that can cause false alarms/notifications. The only thing I'd say could be something to be aware of is SimpliSafe is not compatible with Apple Homekit but is with Alexa and Google. You can arm and disarm the system with these services with easy. Video quality is great and is responsive which is important for the two way audio to work and so far it does just as good as my Google Nest doorbell. Overall I'd recommend this system, especially if you're looking for expandability and simplicity of self-installation with no contracts and no salesperson.

Out of the box, very easy to install. Straight forward. It took me less than 30 min to install all the indoor components. They are all equipped with adhesive pads (and also screws). There are some extra pads in the box in case you need them. That's very well thought and offering a very low (to no) efforts to install (indoor items). Programming is also easy. I installed the app and followed all the steps one by one. No issues and not complicated. There is an indoor camera with heavy stand that you can install to monitor a specific area. It is wired so there is no batteries or battery business involved. I installed it on the top of the cabinets to get a view of the full living room area. The outdoor camera is the only one that needs some real work to be installed. I had to drill holes and install the base. Once that done, the rest is very easy. I had to re-charge the battery for the camera. It took quit long time before signalling full. Maybe first time charging... Then installed it back inside the camera and placed the camera using its strong magnet on the base I've already mounted above the entry door. If you are living in not so friendly neighborhood, try to keep this camera away (high) from reach. It can get stolen or messed up with as it is not small or discreet. I was actually WOWed by its size. Once everything installed and set-up, the system is now functional. Motion detection and windows switches are very good. Ranges are good and their sensitivity is very acceptable. Sometimes the motion would lower its sensitivity if it set for pets to avoid false alarms. Still, it is doing a great job. One is enough for covering large area. I noticed it could catch movement from a descent far distance. Time will show how often batteries would need to be replaced. If they last 1 year, I am ok with that (except for the outdoor camera. At least 3 month!). The base has an internal battery which is a very good options. Won't need to have a UPS installed. I tried to check how long it would last on battery and in my case it lasted over 1.5 hours. I reconnected the power before it turned off (late at night). SimpliSafe offers 1 free month of monitoring but I'd advise you to check with your HOA or if you live in an apartment, to check with the management. They might not like that too much or you might need to get an Alarm license for it. The kit as is, is very good for covering small house, part of the house, or an apartment. It covers a very good security feeling with over the new monitoring (all time) and nice video streaming if you have good internet connection. The good thing about this kit that is has indoor and outdoor camera and also the motion sensor. Not bad of a deal!

This Simplisafe 9 piece whole home protection package is the perfect bundle for getting your home set up securely. Included is a wireless outdoor camera, an indoor camera, a wireless keypad, 4 door/window sensors, a motion detector, and the base station. It also includes a yard sign to possibly deter thieves. Set up is very simple. Most of the components use a double sided tape to the walls and frames. The indoor camera sits on its own pedestal and needs to be plugged into wall outlet, the base station needs to be plugged in as well, but does boast a 24 hour battery backup if you do lose power. Since mostly everything is run off battery, the system can continue to function and your home stay protected in a power outage. The wireless outdoor camera attaches with a magnetic mount and comes with a battery and charging cable and mounting screws. The indoor camera comes with a shutter that closes when deactivated to ensure your privacy. The motion detector and the door/window sensors are also very simple to set up, but may want to consider putting in places not easily detectible. The motion detector does have a good room range to it, although it does actually pick up my pets sometimes if they jump on the couch or are playing around. Small breed dogs should probably be fine though. Everything once charged, is easy to set up in the simplisafe app and get everything connected. I set up my whole system in about 45 minutes. Setting up the keypad is just like the others. Easy. It is very quick to arm and disarm and the panel is easy to read. Because it is battery powered, you need to be sure to check the battery levels often . The picture quality of both cameras is good. Pretty clear picture. The night vision is ok, but I still like recording in well lit areas. It does come with 1 month of the monitoring service free, and prices change but it is also not a bad price for the monthly service. Also the speaker on the base station is very loud and ear piercing. I would suggest putting it in a place that is not easy to access so if intruders come in they can't destroy it easily. Overall well worth the price of the kit. I feel much better having this kit set up in my home and the level of protection it provides

Best Non Monitored Security System on the Market

I LOVE simplisafe, and the newest iteration of their wireless, home installed security system is more of the same. Only slight improvements to the keypad and base, over the last version. The keypad serves as the brains of the whole system and you use it in a "remote" sense to walk around and program and name sensors. Then it goes onto a wall mount for semi permanent mounting. the new additions of indoor and outdoor cameras sweeten the deal. The motion sensor and the window/door magnetic sensors are fairly typical. Simplisafe's "standard white plastic" vibe is unchanged here, and it usually works. I find myself thinking that the magnetic sensors could be made quite a bit more low profile, but the larger area helps them stick to non-flat or non-standard surfaces better, so I suppose I'll take it. the motion sensor is designed for angled down or in a corner use, and can be configured in the keypad to enable or set off alarms. The base station is the hub for all the things, and connects to the internet. This is also where your sounds come from - surprisingly I find it REALLY useful to hear audibly when my doors are opened in other parts of the house. The base station is also where a battery backup goes, should you chose that, to keep your system operating correctly without internet. While SimpliSafe offers and would like you to choose their monitored services, this setup works fairly well without them. The setup and use of the app and connecting to the cameras is not as smooth as a ring or a Eufycam, but also isn't impossible. Here lies my biggest complaint so far - I dislike being split between ecosystems, and Simplisafe having some cameras, but not the number of options that exist out there like a doorbell or other security cameras, means you're likely hopping between apps to check things. That also leaves me with a base station for my Simplisafe and for my doorbell/camera setup because both have valid needs for alerts. I wish Simplisafe would integrate with others or defer the cameras. Overall this is a VERY well made system, and well thought out, and I highly recommend it.

A Simple and Great Security System

The SimpliSafe 9 piece whole home security system is the perfect all in one security system bundle out there today. I used to use the big competitor (you can guess who...) for years before I switched to SimpliSafe. The SimpliSafe system is all around easy to use, easy to set up, easy to manage, and provides excellent security safeguards to protect your home. Let's start by going over the setup process. Setup was a breeze, honestly easy enough that your aging parents might be able to do it! Everything is self-explanatory and very well detailed in the instruction process via the app. Just take out the battery strip for sensors, press the button on the cameras and keypad, and follow the instructions in the app. I was able to have the entire system up and running including setting up all sensors and the camera's within an hour. Did not have any issues in setup, everything was smooth and easy. Using the alarm is easy, it integrates with Alexa, and I use it with my home bridge for Siri (not officially supported). The keypad is very advanced, compared to other systems, sleek in design. The camera's work very well, and the privacy shutter on the indoor camera is the best thing since sliced bread. Being able to have a privacy shutter active and tied to certain arming modes is great for protecting your privacy whilst at home. Who wants to be recorded 24/7 while watching TV? I have it set to only record in away mode for the most privacy/protection possible. So far after a month, everything has worked as expected and had absolutely no issues with false alerts, firmware upgrade failures, setting up new devices, etc. This is most definitely an upgrade over the other brands that are out there. While it is more expensive, it is justified in the quality of the products that SimpliSafe makes and the easy of use. Definitely get this alarm system if you are new to the ecosystem of home security, or just want to upgrade your older existing system. It is a great deal, and way cheaper than going down the "professional" route.

Easy to install The installation was truly easy. Once you plug in the basestation and pull the battery tab on the keypad, you are off to a great start. Installing any of the sensors is as easy as removing a paper battery tab, using the keypad to tell the basestation that you are installing a new device and naming it from a list once the basestation announces that a new device has been detected. The preinstalled double sided tape makes mounting the sensors easy. Our place has numerous unfinished roughhewn wood surfaces and I decided to mount sensors that had to be on those surfaces with the included screws. I didn’t try the included self-adhesive on the roughhewn wood which, may have worked perfectly. SimpliSafe tells you how far away you can mount sensors like the glass break and motion sensors but it was less clear about how high to mount them given the space I was working in or, for the glass break in particular, the angular range that it could work with. SimpliSafe sensors are relatively inexpensive, and, as such, perhaps an extra sensor or two isn’t a bad thing. The App is easy to set up and use and definitely slanted to the easy side rather than the comprehensive side. That said, if a sensor were to drop off the app will alert you to that. I am not looking forward to changing batteries but would rather that to running wires through an older structure. The indoor IP camera in the kit actually works too well. There is so much sound, you are constantly hearing humming of motors or fans in the house. However, when someone actually walks in, it picks up that sound crystal clear. The night vision is quite good as well. The app. is super simple to setup, and has worked reliable everywhere I am, even across the State. Overall, an amazing product, I would recommend this to anyone.

[PROS] Wire-Free: This is an obvious benefit, but arranging the sensors and placement of other accessories are simple to do. The only thing that could be a little difficult is installing the outdoor camera which requires some drilling, however, the included instructions are adequate enough. App-Setup: Once everything is placed, the app walks you through the setup of each device. This can be done in 10-15 minutes or shorter depending on how tech savvy you are. The app guide is easy to understand, and useful for daily use of the device. Quick Notifications: I receive notifications via text and from the app simultaneously. This level of responsiveness impresses me very much given that this is a wireless system. [CONS] Video Playback/Live Feed: I've experienced a small number of issues in trying view footage in certain scenarios. If there's a lot of ongoing activity that triggers the camera to record then you won't be able to view the video. The app shows that the camera has a great signal strength, but I had also a few occurrences of no videos being saved. This doesn't occur often, so I'm not perturbed. [Conclusion] The SimpliSafe Whole Home Kit is a really great comprehensive security system. Setup was easy, alerts were timely, and the camera footage was clear.

SimpliSafe is a security company geared towards the DIY'r and they know their audience. The setup process for this Whole Home Security System is simple. Very simple. And it will in fact leave you feeling safe...er. The first step is to setup the base station. This is the white cylinder object that functions as the brain of the system. It has a battery backup but receives its power from a regular 120v wall outlet. After the base station is powered and setup, you can move along adding your door/window sensors, motion sensor, and cameras. Pairing any of the sensors is an absolute breeze. Remove the battery saving tab, press button, and boom...paired. Then remove the double sided tape that is essentially a command strip and stick them to the door/window/cabinet that you desire. The instructions state that the sensors need to be within 2 inches of each other, which allows very generous placement. The keypad is very simple to setup and mount as well, no different then the other sensors. Now what is different is the cameras. These are wifi cameras. The first is a wall outlet powered indoor camera, and the second is a battery powered outdoor camera. The wifi range, according to the app, is terrible on both of these cameras. 30 feet from the router, and 10 feet from the base station, the app said the indoor camera had weak signal. The outdoor camera wasn't even able to pair! I ended up setting up both cameras in the same room as the main router in my home, then placing them at their desired locations. This worked well, but I was disappointed that I had to out maneuver the app. Something that I was also disappointed in was the camera video quality. No recording unless you pay the monthly subscription. An onboard SD card would be a great addition. Video quality is also subpar. With how inexpensive other camera options have become, I really think that SimpliSafe needs to step up its camera game. Overall, SimpliSafe puts out a decent product to keep the big name alarm companies out of your home. A DIY home owner with limited to no tech skills will greatly appreciate how this product is setup and avoid contracts. However, with monthly subscription fees similar to the big name companies, its almost worth signing their contracts over this system as you will get more. A few additions to the SimpliSafe Whole Home Security System could really set it apart, however I do believe it would interfere with the company's fee structure.

The simpli-safe system was organized very well in its packaging. Each item was in its own box and labelled. Instructions made it clear to stop and install the app first and foremost. From the app, it was very easy to add each item starting with the keypad. You can then add items from either the keypad or the app. Navigation was easy in both the app and keypad. It also came with an indoor and outdoor camera, a motion sensor, and 4 door or window sensors. I have yet to figure out how to do the motion sensor. It's supposed to be at one height for dogs, and much higher for cats and I have both. I'm sure they have a resolution for this but It's not super important to me. The door/window sensors are great though all of our windows crank open vertically so I don't really forsee an issue of anyone coming through our windows. Also I was hoping there would be levels of the monitoring service. It's all or nothing, no tiers. There's a lower for camera storage, but that's not including their monitoring service at all. Set up is fantastically easy and their equipment is quite nice and quality equipment. I just wish their service could be something that we could do.

The newest SimpliSafe system is one of many DIY home security systems on the market that unfortunately falls short compared to the competition. While there are some strengths, there are just too many pitfalls for a user like me. However, there are some features and strengths that may appear to a certain target consumer. Set up – I have reviewed a few SimpliSafe systems over the years and the current set up is leaps and bounds over past units. In fact, this is one of the best systems I have set up – only Google can compare. The sensors and the base connect in few seconds and is flawless. The only issue I had was the interior camera, I picked the wrong camera and it would not set up. As soon as I realized my error, it connected immediately. Quality – The sensors and base are decent, no different than any of the competitors. The interior camera is sub-par – high latency, washed out colors, no battery backup. It is very cheap. The outdoor camera was far better and comparable to Ring or Nest. The battery is large and lasts a long time. Oddly, I had less latency on the outdoor camera than the interior camera. Another indicator that the inside camera is sub-par. The key pad is robust, easy to read and effective. Performance and functions – Arming is simple and controlled through the app. You can arm and disarm through the keypad as well. The rest of the app is very simplistic with limited functionality. Yes, you can see all the components of your system, but you cannot take advantage of the video recording unless you sign up for their top tier plan. That is where they lose me, I do not need to spend hundreds of dollars for remote monitoring. As I said earlier, there are people that want remote monitoring so maybe they will find it worth spending the money. In conclusion, you do get a lot for the money in terms of the equipment, but you lose too much if you do not subscribe to their plans. Additionally, you the only integration that I could see into Google Home is arming the system (you cannot disarm it through Google.) There is not other integration to other systems I have, including Samsung Smartthings. I am not the target demographic of the hybrid DIY alarm system. I would much rather spend the money on a better system that integrates well and does not have a monthly fee. Simplisafe is probably having a hard time against the competition. They probably have an increasing share of a shrinking customer base who is willing to pay for a service .

It works, but camera setup was a pain

The brand of DIY security I’m currently using is being discontinued so I find myself in the market for a replacement. I have to say, I’ve been disappointed with this so far and this is likely not the solution for me. While the base and sensor setups were easy, the cameras have been a pain. I’ve installed three of the door/window sensors are a small, detached building next to our home. That was easy enough and they seem to be operating just fine. The keypad setup was also easy. Arming and disarming the system are like any other security system out there. Camera setup though was nothing but a pain. Each camera took several tries. Enough to the point I was ready to contact customer service and then they just magically decided to finish the setup. Once setup, the camera performance was quite disappointing at first with long delays. I was in the process of trying to update our router. Switching to a mesh network with WiFi 6e support has improved the performance of the cameras. It’s disappointing it took this step though. What if I hadn’t been in the market for a router? It would be nice if the outside camera had the option to operate corded and not cordless (via battery). Also, with this being a magnetic base mount, while I don’t suspect mother nature will jostle it too much, any unscrupulous characters could walk off with it. I’m assuming others might have a better experience with setting up the cameras. Another grip is that you can’t see devices and the cameras on one dashboard screen in the app. You must two screen deep to find sensor status. Nuisance in my opinion not to be able to see the status off all the devices from one, main, dashboard.

Subscription Required to View Video Recordings

Please know that this system requires a subscription to view recorded videos. There is no storage built into the base or cameras like with other brands that will allow you to view recorded video clips locally. The cheapest subscription is $10 per month and is called "Self Monitoring with Camera Recording". This allows you to view 30 days worth of recordings and does not include professional monitoring or emergency dispatch. So if you, like me, want a security system that you manage and monitor on your own, I would recommend looking elsewhere and carefully reading the product description. Better still, ask questions online, because nowhere that I could find in the product description is it mentioned that a subscription is required to view recordings. That said, for those who are looking for a subscription based security system, setup was relatively easy and this system appears to be a quality system so far. I did have to restart the app a few times during setup when it got hung up when syncing one of the motion sensors and the outdoor camera. Camera quality is good and the app connects quickly to the cameras when motion is detected. One other issue I have had is a constant static sound or ticking in the audio feed from the cameras. I have tried resetting and relocating the cameras, and that doesn't fix the issues.

Everything work’s awesome! So much value for the cost that your paying. One of my favorite features are on allmof the interior cameras, they all have a privacy shutter on them so it is clear to see when the cameras are being used to record.
