ok

The worst of the series
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So, let me begin by saying that while this is my son's game, I loved the previous 2 games and we play it together all the time. (He's 6# Now, that having been said... this game is not as good as the others. Activision appears to have given control of the game to a new company and while a lot of people may love the clean new look of the graphics, I don't. The levels try to be more 3 dimensional, which seems to result in us both falling off of a lot of ledges because it's hard to judge the depth of paths and obstacles. Your Skylander can jump now, which my son loves. And there are a few new features that are nice, but they've also made it where you cannot get all the accomplishments in the levels without buying a LOT more characters. #Specifically, the most expensive Swap Force ones AND giants from the previous game.# We've also had a LOT of glitch issues. And since it was a Christmas present, all the packaging went out with the trash on Christmas morning and we can't return it. The game locks up, and has even just randomly closed and taken us back to the main Wii menu screen a couple of times. #This is the only game we have that has this effect, so I think it's safe to say it's the game and not the Wii# I know this review doesn't actually cover the Tower of Time expansion pack we bought, but many of the lock ups come while playing that level. Another complaint I have is the new Portal of Power. I was excited to see that we were no longer going to have to change the batteries in our old one anymore #we had the Spyro's Adventure Wii portal that didn't plug into the game console - it was nice that it was cordless, but my son is 6 and everytime the batteries died, I had to get a screwdriver, etc.# But... this new one stays on ALL the time unless you pull the Wii out from your entertainment center and unplug the Portal everytime you finish playing it. The only other option I've found is to hold the power button down on the Wii until it goes all the way off #red indicator light#, which you can't do with the remote, so my son never does. All in all, my son is just thrilled to have a new Skylanders game and a bunch of new expensive pieces of plastic to use with it. I accept the whole premise of the game for Activision is to sell more characters, but it's beginning to reach a point where they are simply abusing the system. So many of the new series characters are just the old ones standing a different way, like they did when they released the second game. They even went so far as to make one of the 3 characters you get WITH the game an old character in a new outfit, which I thought was especially lame. After a couple of weeks of playing it, my son isn't nearly as excited about it as the others #as evidenced by the "ho-hum" attitude he took when I brought home a pair of Swap Force pajamas I saw on clearance) and I will be surprised if we buy any fourth game in the series.
