    Think twice

Think twice before buying Sonos wireless system. About 5-6 years ago I spent thousands of dollars to install Sonos equipment in my house. The other day I learned Sonos will no longer provide software updates after May, 2020. They my system will continue to work for a time but will eventually cease. The company’s solution is to spend thousands more to update all my equipment only to face similar outcome a few years down the road. They did offer 30% discount to trade up but it will still cost thousands of dollars, I thoroughly enjoy my Sonos system but I will no longer deal with a company practicing such underhanded tactics. There was no warning at the time of sale that this would occur. I have nearly 40 year old stereo speakers that work perfectly fine. Sonos could have supported its products longer term but have obviously decided not to. Well goodby Sonos!

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback and for being a Sonos owner! You do have the option of utilizing the Trade Up program to update your Sonos system. However, you do have another option which is to continue to utilize your system as you currently do. You are correct in stating that we will end software updates and that eventually your experience may be impacted.

In the future some functionality, particularly music services and voice partners, may be impacted as technology evolves. An example would be a new feature that is added but that is not compatible with legacy software on the computer inside of your Sonos products, but we do not know when those changes would occur.

Based on the purchase date of your equipment we would recommend going to Sonos.com, logging in with your Sonos account, selecting My Account > System Check to determine which, if any, of your players are impacted. It is not every product that was released in 2015 or before and it is possible that the impact to your system is minimal or zero. john.milton

    Disappointing Output

Sonos Connect caused my high-end receiver and speaker system to sound muddy. I had to turn up the receiver halfway (with Sonos volume up halfway) for mediocre output. Having the receiver volume up that much usually shakes the house down with other audio inputs, so I could forget switching components on the fly. I tried plugging it into other input options and working with EQ in the Sonos Controller app, but all yielded the same results. Chromecast Audio sounded 10 times better for 1/10th the cost. I'm going to return Connect and forget about having my Living Room join the Sonos system throughout the rest of the house. Very disappointed.

UNRELIABLE - works at most 70% of the time

I have had this Sonos product for at least 5 years. I’ve used it with three different routers, and at best it works 70% of the time. Sometimes I can listen to music and sometimes I can’t. And sometimes it will be days or a week until the issue magically clears itself up. It’s very expensive for something so unreliable. I think a Bluetooth speaker would have been a better option.

Died: Out of Warranty of course

If you feel compelled to get a SONOS system, make sure you get the extended warranty. Mine failed after just two years, it started dropping signals and then would not boot. Customer Service was not very useful, they basically just said I needed to replace it. I will replace this, but probably with an Apple HomePod or a Bose product.

    Pathetic support

I purchased a CONNECT product 3 years ago and I just got an email that they are going to discontinue support for the product. I would never invest in any Sonos product unless you want to have to replace it every 3-5 years.

Thank you for being a Sonos owner! Since you purchased your new in box Connect in the last three years it should not be impacted by end of software support. The only Connects that are impacted by our end of software updates announcement were manufactured prior to 2015. Please visit sonos.com and log into your account. Click on My System and each of your players will be displayed and show if they are in fact impacted by this announcement. If any part of your system is impacted, it will continue to function just as it currently does once we end software updates in May. You can get more details of this at blog.sonos.com which included our initial announcement and some clarifying remarks as well! john.milton
