These are great sounding speakers, however the application is very buggy and doesn’t work consistently. This is freaking frustrated when you have expensive speakers that you can even change the EQ or other settings. The UI is really bad unfortunately. Support is really bad as well. What has happened to Sonos?

Enjoying my speaker when paired to my record player but when I pair it to my phone I have to unplug my speaker and move it close to our network tower in home or else my music cuts in and out while listening. If it wasn’t for this I’d give it 5 stars. Just think an almost 500 hundred dollar speaker shouldn’t do that.

Unnecessarily complex, useless as a shared speaker

The Era 300's reliance on the Sonos app and Airplay make it useless for many applications, including sharing the speaker between devices, any audio where lag matters, use with a computer. Airplay is difficult to use if you have multiple Apple products, as each device will try to connect to the speaker. Once you do connect, audio suffers from lag. If you try to rely on Bluetooth, Apple devices will still keep trying to revert to Airplay. This creates a situation which is unnecessarily complex and frustrating. You need a Sonos account and setup the Era 300 in the Sonos App to do anything. It won't even work as a Bluetooth speaker until you set it up in the Sonos App. And once you connect to the app, you're forced to connect the Era 300 to your local WiFi network, which repeats the Airplay frustration over and over. You do have the option to connect the speaker with a 3.5mm cable. But you'll have to buy a proprietary Sonos USB-C cable, which is out of stock six months after release. And if you do get a cable, you'll still need the app and of course you won't be able to share the speaker. This is my first Sonos product and it's clear the company just hasn't adapted. I suppose this product would have been great as a whole home solution used with a single device. But in multi-device homes where lagless audio matters it fails badly. It places the user in a clash between Apple and Sonos ecosystems, which is endlessly frustrating.

These speakers constantly drop from the Sonos app. They can sound good if you retracted tune them with TruePlay, but unfortunately for all Sonos customers TruePlay no longer functions after Sonos destroyed their app with a “redesign.”

Speakers sound great. Bought 2 of these speakers open box (excellent condition) for 339.99 each. 2 days later, Best Buy had the same open box in excellent condition listed for 322.99. I asked for a price match and best buy refused. They gave me the option to return the speakers then rebuy them at a lower price to me this seems counterproductive and a waste of everyone's time. Had the prices dropped after my return window I would have understood.

I'm sorry to hear about your frustrating experience with the Sonos Era 300 and the challenges you've faced with setup and performance. It's especially disheartening when a product that should enhance your listening experience ends up causing so much hassle instead. Here’s a potential course of action you can take to address the issues:

      Troubleshooting Steps
      Factory Reset the Era 300:

Power Off the Speaker: Ensure the speaker is turned off.
      Initiate the Reset:
Press and hold the Join button (or the pairing button) and connect the power cable.
Continue holding the button until the light flashes amber and white, then release.
Reattempt Setup: Try setting it up again through the Sonos app after resetting.
      Check Your Network:

Wi-Fi Strength: Ensure your Wi-Fi signal is strong where the speaker is located. Weak signals can cause inconsistent performance.
Router Settings: Consider restarting your router or checking for firmware updates. A router reset can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.
      Update Firmware and App:

Sonos App: Ensure the Sonos app is updated to the latest version.
Firmware: Check within the app to see if the Era 300 needs a firmware update.
      Contact Sonos Support Again:

Escalate the Issue: If initial customer support was unhelpful, consider asking for the issue to be escalated to a higher-level support team or a technical specialist.
Document the Issues: Provide a detailed account of your repeated problems with multiple Sonos speakers, emphasizing the need for a lasting solution.

It’s incredibly frustrating when a product doesn’t live up to expectations, especially with something as important as home audio. I hope these steps help you find a resolution! john.milton

I purchased these as an upgrade over my Sonos Ones for surround sound. Much to my dismay when you set them up as surrounds in the Sonos app, the center speaker is disabled. I discovered that Sonos intentionally did this because they decided this was the best configuration for surround sound. To my ears they aren’t much different than the Ones. I think Sonos should have given the consumer the option of turning on or off the center speaker and let them decide for themselves. Very disappointing for $900 worth of speakers.

I figure I’ve spent around $8,000 on Sonos speakers, controllers, etc. over the past 15 years which has included systems for three different houses. Unfortunate, Sonos products, especially their controlling software, has gone downhill significantly as of late, to the point where my two house systems rarely work. But don’t take my word for it. Search for your own reviews of Sonos systems online, through Apple App Store, etc., searching by most recent. In short, I cannot in good faith recommend Sonos products to anyone any longer. Look elsewhere.

While some Sonos speakers are good, the Era 300 Speaker (I’ve purchased two different ones) work only intermittently. Sometimes it will start playing something different on its own, most of the time won’t play at all. More importantly, Sonos has tried updating their software several times and now at its best is extremely frustrating. See Apple App Store reviews for Sonos (sort by most recent) to see the average 1 star reviews over the past few months. Many systems, my two extensive systems included, partially work perhaps 10% of the time. Look for other speaker systems before buying Sonos.

Requires Sonos App to utilize. The App and the speaker would never stay connected to the wifi. After numerous factory resets, power cycling the router, and hours with tech support the speaker is being returned. Check the Sonos forums to note that this is a know issue with this speaker. Once connected is sounds nice, but, yeah.

Sonos turns off the front speaker when you use these as surrounds. There is no option to turn it on. An absolute disappointment in this configuration; my ipad pro speakers sound better than the 300 with no front speaker. My Ones sound better as surrounds. If you use the 300 as a standalone or speaker pair it’s great. Also, they finally added bluetooth (so it wasn’t about sound quality). Getting tired of the constant compromise and disappointment from Sonos products.

Sonos use to be the best speaker system but after spending over $2k in last 5 years it has all become useless. The Sonos app doesn’t work and support stinks. Do yourselves a favor and buy Bose or Harmon or anything other then Sonos. This is no reflection on Best Buy but buy anything but Sonos.

I'm sorry to hear about your disappointing experience with Sonos. Your feedback is valuable, and we want to address your concerns and help resolve any issues you're facing. Here are a few steps that might help improve your experience with the Sonos system:

Update the Sonos App and Firmware: Ensure that both your Sonos app and speakers have the latest updates installed. This can often resolve connectivity and performance issues.

Network Issues: Many Sonos issues can be traced back to network problems. Make sure your Wi-Fi network is stable and that your Sonos devices are within range. If possible, connect your Sonos speakers directly to your router using an Ethernet cable to see if that improves performance.

Reset and Reconfigure: Sometimes, resetting your Sonos system and setting it up again from scratch can resolve persistent issues. You can find instructions for resetting your Sonos devices on the Sonos support website.

Contact Sonos Support: While you mentioned that support hasn't been helpful, it might be worth reaching out again, especially if there have been updates or changes to their support processes. Explain your issues in detail and ask for advanced technical support.

Community Forums: The Sonos community forums can be a great resource. Many users share their experiences and solutions to common problems. You might find a solution to your specific issues there.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's important for us to hear feedback like yours to improve our products and services. john.milton

Review for Sonos Era 300 Bluetooth Speaker Full disclosure, I already have a Sonos Move and a Sonos Roam speaker, so I have to say, I’m already a fan. But the Sonos Era 300 is, indeed, an amazing leap forward for audio tech. I was young when Science Fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke penned his third law: “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” The Sonos Era 300 is both sufficiently advanced AND magical. Their implementation of Dolby Atmos Music for spatial audio took my breath away. If you’ve never heard it, Atmos music can recreate the studio or concert sound in the space where you’re listening. You can tell where the musicians and vocalists are positioned. In fact if you close your eyes, you can imagine them placed around your living room! Sounds have “height” and can move around you and even fly over your head. Ok, I’m dating myself here, but this reminded me of being a child and hearing stereo (in over-the-ear) headphones for the first time compared to a mono version of a record. The difference is truly night and day. Beside Dolby Atmos, the Sonos Era offers at least two other extraordinary features: in their own words, “bewilderingly easy to set up,” and Trueplay, that uses the speaker’s internal microphone in combination with your phone’s mic to tune the speaker to the acoustics of your room. First, setup is super simple. Because this is a smart speaker, all you need to do is to download and run the Sonos App. The app finds your new speaker, asks you for your preferred WiFi connection, and then does everything else for you. Once set up, you can fine tune the Era 300 with Trueplay. Quick Tuning takes just a minute and is well suited for smaller rooms, but having my Era 300 in a large room, I opted for the Advanced Tuning. As the speaker chirps, you walk around the room with your phone, while waving it around. This is what made me think of the Clarke quote above; I could just as easily imagine waving burning sage using the same motions! This is hefty speaker, weighing in at almost 10 pounds, and the bass created by it is equally hefty. I’m not there (yet), but I’ve read that an optimal home theater setup is the Sonos Arc sound bar coupled with two Era 300 speakers for a truly surround sound experience. More magic awaits!
