Technology always takes patience
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Like anything unfamiliar, you have to be patient and learn what it's about and get your self used to using it. The 1 star reviews I think are due to not wanting to put in the effort to make it work. No it doesn't stream from the ipod but it does play your entire iTunes library.. which is better IMO and what is already on your ipod/ipad. The software is simple to install and user friendly. The set up is literally the push of a button (two really). You'll have to install some apps, update some things, put in username and passwords for services like Sirius, Pandora but with 15-20 minutes of work you're done - for good. I have it on my deck, garage, kitchen, bedroom. My wife listens in the kitchen while I'm listening in the garage. You need to know what unit is best for your situation. I have the connect amp for the deck as I bought boston outdoor speakers..it's incredible. The garage I have the connect amp as I use my bose bookshelf speakers, the kitchen is play5, it delivers incredible sound and fills the kitchen and the entire downstairs for that fact and the bedroom I run (2) play 3's in stereo, 1 on either side of the bed. With free apps like Songza, bed time has never been so peacefully. I also use the bridge which was free with the play3 purchase to boost my wireless signal. Buy a great wireless router if you're going to run multiple sonos components. It's an incredible system and you'll keep upgrading if you buy just one and try it in a room. You can buy an Ipod dock but that's all you're going to get. The remote app on the iPhone/ipad is awesome and with out bugs/glitches and its free. People come to my house and it's a conversation piece and have found a few of them purchased a play5 after the visit and discussion... they plan on doing their house. Don't be intimidated by the low reviews, remember to read and be patient. It's worth it in the end. The cost is about $50 a unit higher than I would like to pay but don't buy an entire house system at once. Piece by piece.

Old Speakers No Longer Compatible W/ New System
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Buyer beware. I have literally and verifiably have purchased about $8,000 worth of Sonos speakers and product. Recently Sonos has prevented older models of speakers such as Gen1 Play 5 incompatible with the new Sonos system. That said you can be running newer and older speakers, but they are no longer able to work together on the same app interface, which completely defeats the purpose. I literally have 5 speakers that no longer work with my newer units. I called Sonos and they offered me a whole whopping $100 discount on my next purchase. I will never buy from them again.

Even better than I thought!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been using the Logitech Squeezebox Radio in my kitchen for quite a long time now. I get lousy FM reception so I bought the Logitech to stream my radio station as well as other services like XM, Rhapsody, my iTunes library, etc. It's a pretty good product but tends to lose connection and reboot itself randomly. It also has good portability with a battery and small size but lacks in audio fidelity. So, I turned to Sonos to see if I could alleviate the issues. So far, it's been amazing. I wasn't too impressed with the sound at the store especially when it was compared to the Play 5 but the small footprint of the Play 3 is a much better match for my kitchen and when I got it home, the sound pretty much blew me away! I'm sure the Play 5 would sound better but it's much larger and $100 more. This is by far the best "radio" I have had (although I have a Cambridge Soundworks model that is pretty darn good too). Set up with the wireless bridge was pretty easy so now I can move the speaker around to wherever there is an AC outlet. It looks like you have to reconnect it each time you move it but that's pretty easy (just fire up whichever Sonos controller you want - I have iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad and Kindle Fire HD options), Add Device and depress the 2 buttons on the Play 3 as indicated in the instructions. I thought it was going to be a pain to keep some sort of controller handy all the time but once it's kicked off to a radio station or to Pandora (which I'm listening to now) you can go on about your business and can lower or raise the volume as needed at the Play 3. Also, I don't believe you need to have your computer on unless you are streaming music from its hard drive. All in all, after one day only though, I'm very happy. The sound is great (try the Play 3 first at home if you want a compact size) and the setup was very fast. Buy it now!

I would have rather wired my building...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent over 3000 on a full installation of sonos and after the second day of trying to get the system work without malfunctioning. Once it was up and running the sound was underwhelming.

Awesoem addtion to my Sonos speaker network
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this after I bought and set up a Play:1 Starter Set and have been happy with the addition of this speaker. It looks very nice and fits in well with my home. It packs a really good punch with loud, crisp, and clear audio and is complemented nicely by the two Play:1s I have set up in other rooms. Setup was a breeze when I added it to my already existing Sonos speaker network. Very happy with this purchase. I was able to snag an open box for this product and it saved me a good chunk of money.

Paired two of these with the new Playbar, awesome!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just purchased the new Sonos Playbar for my home theater and ditched my 3D Sony Playbar with wireless sub. I am new to Sonos but the Best Buy Magnolia sales associate turned me on to this system and I am hooked! I ended up buying two of these to pair with my Playbar to be used as surround speakers and what a fantastic sound! Forget the sub, this bass moves the room and I do not even have this cranked all the way up. Sure this whole system is pricey but who cares, it is easy to set up and it is wait for it...wireless! Just what I was looking for. Who wants to have wires running all over the room or worse under carpets or around the walls. Just plug in each speaker, sync with your bridge and presto, this is on your network and can play music from your iTunes library existing on your Mac or iPad or iPod or iPhone. Plus you get all internet radio and it sounds awesome! The Playbar I reviewed separately and it is just as awesome! You will love the ease of setting this up with two buttons and how nice it compliments your rooms! Plus I can disconnect one of these and carry to another room and play other music through that one speaker flawlessly! Sonos is simply better and will beat out your Dad's Bose system in a heartbeat! Wave radio what?? Doesn't even compare.

Great device
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this along with the Zone Player 90 and the Bridge. Set up was a breeze. I use this device on almost a regular basis. I purchased the Play:3 instead of the Play:5 for portability. I can plug this thing in anywhere in my house and it instantly connects to the network and I can start streaming my music. Pros: compact device and easily moved if needed. Good sound for the price. Ease of connection. Great to be able to stream music controlled from my phone. Cons: it is a little on the pricey side but I think it is worth it. I plan on getting another one in the near future so I don't have to keep moving this between rooms.

I do not like.
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I hate this thing...especially since apple updated, I can no longer stream music that’s on my device to it. It has to be a music service with this unit. But the sonos one will play from my phone and NO BLUETOOTH. I hate Sonos.

Incredible sound and richness
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These produce an incredible quality of sound with power and no distortion. They are great to have multiple units to be used together as stereo or have in different rooms with different music for each room. The app to control all units is wonderful, but not fully intuitive. Some features should be directly accessible, not having to memorize a series of steps to get to. It does stink that you cannot play your iTunes (or iPod) music directly from those devises, but must have an AirPlay (more bucks!) device. The price is a bit high for them. If you have the cash to burn, definitely get more that 1.

Easy to Install - Unbelievable Sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've struggled with Airplay and iTunes for ages thinking that I was getting the better deal. Airport Express, AppleTV, MacMini blah, blah, on and on I struggled. I thought Sonos was too pricey and there was a simpler less expensive way to do it. Well, I'm hear to tell you that, while Sonos seems pricey, is it actually very inexpensive. Literally plugged it into the wall, plugged my bridge into the ethernet, downloaded the software to my phone/computer and BAM my house was rockin'. In less than 15 minutes. UNREAL! The sound is great. I flip from playing music stored on my computer to music on Spotify or "radio" without a hitch. No stutters. No drops. I waited for something bad to happen. Bad sound? Bad streams..nothing. Then I moved. I thought for sure it would bring down the Sonos. Nope. Just plugged it all back in, opened the app on my phone and music filled the air. I can't tell you how please and excited I am to finally toss out my Airport Express (and volumes of tech notes on setting it up) and the frustrations with getting Airplay to work in my home and replace it with Sonos. The best part? Really. Is the fact that I no longer get the calls from my wife saying "Hey, um, how do you get the music to play in the kitchen?" She's excited too! What could be better? A battery powered version of the 3.

Amazing Product
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I must first start by saying that I typically do not provide online reviews but I rely heavily on them. If you are like me, you like to read countless reviews about any purchase of a product over $100.00. I value other people's opinions, experiences, and general outlook about products they have tried. I have been looking at a few options to add a speaker in our bedroom. I was looking at 1) a speaker dock 2) a bluetooth speaker or 3) a wi-fi speaker. I began to think about what I would value most in my new speaker. Portability, or quality? After I spent several hours reading online reviews, as well as a trip to my local Best Buy store, I came to my conclusion. I valued the online reviews more in helping me make my decision over my hands on visit to my Best Buy store. The store display at my best buy store wasn't set up and working for the SONOS speaker. After I seen the bluetooth speaker options at my Best Buy store, I couldn't believe how small they were and the quality simply wasn't what I was in the market for. I narrowed the purchase down to wi-fi speakers. Pioneer's A4 or the SONOS play 3. I couldn't have made a better decision. The actual set up took me about 30 minutes after I got it out of the box to establish the network SONOS requires. After that, the connection of the speaker was a minute at the very worst. I was blown away by the quality of music this little guy put out. The app that I installed for my iPhone 5 worked flawlessly. I was up and listening to all sorts of music within minutes. If you are looking for a wi-fi speaker, SONOS is the way to go. You will pay more for the speaker, but if you want sound quality within a buget, SONOS simply is the best option and you will not regret the purchase. What's even better is that I can expand my collection at my pace and have excellent sound throughout my entire house. Try it for 30 days but I'm confident you will not return it.

Great Sound!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.See my Play Sound Bar Review. I bought the Sound bar and 2 Play-3's and am NOT regretting it! This system allowed me to create my Dolby Digital 5.1 surround system.. Sounds great and very easy to setup. My only concern is on the stands I got from Best Buy... The Play 3's I put on the SANAS stands are a bit flimsy... The Play 3's are a tad heavy but sound for me the extra $100 to upgrade from the Play 1's was minimal and I forgot about the added speaker weight on the stands. The SANAS stands are not so solid with the Play 3's mounting so these stands are a temporary installation in the main living room until I get a "real" TV in my Media room (old Samsung TV died) and wall mount them. Other than that, no regrets and I want to purchase a Play-1 for my office and eventually the sub but no rush as it is an expensive initial purchase but the wireless solution works great. One Note: I have a 4,000 Sq Ft home and I upgraded my Wireless Router with a Netgear R6300 Ver 2.0 and it works great. I forgot to mention that I used a Netgear Ethernet adapter that connects to my home electrical system. I connected the Netgear power gadget to the AC power and the cable to my Netgear R6300 router (a hardwire connection) and the other Power gadget is downstairs connected to the AC outlet and with a CAT 5 cable to the Sonos Play Bar/Sound Bar... I am using the extra ethernet jack on the Sono Play Bar to connect my old SlingBox Pro-HD and it works great.. I did not have to buy a "Sonos bridge" (although maybe cheaper than the Netgear Power over Ethernet adapter) this allowed me to "hardwire" the Sonos Playbar directly to the router and reduce "RF/WiFI signals/contention" around the house.. Anyway, the Play 3's sound great.. No regrets.

Great addition to Sonos line
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first Play3 purchase (have a couple other components). Impressive sound for the size of the speaker. I have this one in the master bathroom and it looks great, and much cheaper than wiring ceiling speakers and hooking to a Connect unit. Sonos isn't cheap upfront but it works seamlessly and sounds great. Only criticism is the lack of a line-in. Highly recommend any component of a Sonos system.

Fantastic!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound. Easy to instal (iif you are a little used to computers). I got a Play5, a Play3, a Zone Player and a Bridge. Only the Zone Player brought me a little problem to work with my Home Theater. Nothing too hard to solve. I`ve tryed to control it from Galaxy S II, notebook, iPhone and iPad. All OK. Telling again, Fantastic!!!!!
