not even close to the play:5
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had 3 Sonos 5's (now called the play:5) and I wanted to add 4th. The play:3 came out so I decided to save the $100 or so and go for the play:3 after reading all the reviews of it. I had the unit exactly 30 minutes before deciding to return it. It's not even close to the 5's. Volume is control is jumpy, not linear like the 5's, power is about half of 5's and once the volume is over 50% the sound starts to get real tinny. Bottom line is if you don't have anything to compare the play:3 against you may be perfectly happy with it, but if you have any 5's in the mix you will be disappointed. I'm a huge fan of sonos but the play:3 just doesn't cut it and is way too expensive for the sound quality.

Save your money. Buy a regular iPod docking system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this because the sales person at Best Buy said I could play my iPad or iPod through it wirelessly. EHHHHH WRONG ANSWER! Turns out I'd have to spend an extra $120 on top of the $300 I already payed for this system to get that ability. It has also fail on numerous attempts to sync with the iTunes library on my Mac. Sonos on-line forums have been totally useless in providing any answers to this problem. If you want to use Pandora, or one of the other music services, it works fine. You can wireless control the unit with your iPhone and iPad through free apps and that function seems to work fine. Why then no wireless streaming from the same devices? This is a major flaw...and one which was glossed over by the Best Buy sales associate.

Connectivity Issues...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After reading a few bad reviews on the connectivity problems on the Sonos play speakers, we decided it had to just be people not following the directions and bought the Play3. Both my wife and I are fairly tech-savvy, so we assumed it would be a breeze. When we got home, we fussed around with getting the speaker onto our wifi for about 45 min and finally got it to work. After another 30 minutes of playing with the speaker, it started dropping connection to my phone, but not my wife's. We tried restarting the wireless router and everything would work fine again, and then 10 min later my phone would disconnect again. (We both have the same phone and we're sitting 3 feet away from each other). Sonos support was of no assistance. We boxed it back up the same night and returned the speaker for a bluetooth speaker. Total disappointment.

Inconsistent
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Day One: I was excited to start using my SONOS, as I have heard great review on the product. I chose this product because I wanted to liberate the 200 GB of music from my laptop. The company brags about the ease of setup, which is true in theory. However, I had major problems trying to get my SONOS recognized in my wireless network. So I had to search the forums to find that all firewall programs have to be configured differently based on the brand. Fine. So once I did that, I was able to connect and play music...so I thought. After rebooting my laptop, my SONOS component could no longer be found. After searching forums for hours, I found that I needed to reboot my router, modem, and SONOS bridge to reestablish a connection; and this must be done EVERY time I startup my laptop....so much for quick and easy access to my music. Day Two: Went outside to grab the morning paper, made myself a pot of coffee, and settled in to listen to some tunes. I rebooted everything as advised, only to find that now, my SONOS component could not be found at all! SONOS was way too inconsistent for me, so I took it back and got a Samsung Audio Dock, which works effortlessly and seamlessly.

Nothing like the Play 5
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These little guys just have no oomph at all and have no stereo imaging whatsoever. I have 4 of the Play 5's and have to run those in stereo to get some decent sound, imaging and bass response. If your just looking purely for background music the 3 is fine, but its not good for much else..... Ec

Complicated setup for Apple users
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought Sonos for my husband for Christmas. We are both fairly tech savvy and usually have no problems setting up new electronics. After over 4 hours of trying to get our music added to the Sonos library and being placed on hold for over 30 minutes by customer service we gave up. We tried multiple Internet searches and it seems many other Apple users are having the same issue we did. I am not sure if this is an issue with Apple compatibility or not but we returned the product out of frustration. We brought home the Bose sound link instead and were listening to music in seconds. If you are willing to spend a significant amount of time setting up the system and are very good with computer this would probably be a great system for you.

Weak
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My first Sonos purchases were 2 Play:1s and a Connect. The Play:1 sounded awesome and with some tweaking the Connect sounded great with my component system. So I figured the Play:3 must be even better. No it isn't. In my opinion, the Play:1s sound better and are 2/3 the cost. In hindsight I should have doubled-up on the Play:1s rather than spring for the Play:3. The sound is tinny, bass is weak above half volume (it actually peaks and gets really muddy at that point). I haven't experienced the Play:5 yet, but I don't have the need with the Connect hooked up to my current system. I'll get there eventually and I hope the Play:5 lives up to the hype.

I wish I had never purchased the system
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I moved into my new place I purchased speakers for three rooms and one for my TV. I have them for years. I wish I hadn't purchased them. About every six weeks I have to spend time resetting up the WiFI systems again so I can use the speakers. In addition, it never goes as it is supposed to, there is always some glitch in setting it up. It has gotten to the point where I just take my lap top from room to room. Look for my speakers on Craig's List.

Can't update.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my wife. Opened it up and tried to connect it but the process is waaay too long and intrusive, and then it kept giving an error message that it couldn't update so we couldn't even use it. Boxed it back up and returned it.
