The play 3 is much larger than the play 1. Set up is simple, plug it in and add it on the sonos app. You name it and set it up. Then you can unplug and move it anywhere within WiFi range. It needed to have the bass adjusted, sounded tin-ny. But has smooth sound now.

After reading hundreds of reviews on the internet about the sonos line of products, I decided to dive in head first. I bought several speakers including this one (to the tune of nearly $3,000) and have not been disappointed. Are they expensive? Absolutely. Is the sound quality on par with buying an actual receiver and real speakers? Absolutely not. As long as you are aware of this going in, I think you can be satisfied with joining the masses of sonos customers.
Don't get me wrong, the sound is great. But it wasn't as good as I expected for the money. I think the sound quality is fine if you're buying individual speakers to put music in several rooms of your house. However, if you're buying these speakers to replace a true surround sound system, you'll be disappointed.
What they lack in hifi sound quality though, they more than make up for in ease of access. I have instant access to more music than I could ever want at the swipe of a finger using only my iphone. This is where the high price gets its justification. Even my technophobe wife loves doing it. There is nothing like coming home and cracking open a beer on the front porch while listening to pandora. And I can do this without 5 remotes, turning on multiple amplifiers, etc. It's all right there from my iphone. I never have to get up to change a channel, or even point a remote, I can listen to radio stations in california or I can listen to my own music stored on my desktop. It;s brilliant,
I'll never have studio quality sound blaring from my speakers. My simulated 5.1 surround sound will always leave a little to be desired. But we listen to more music now - and a greater variety of music now - than we ever have.To me, that has made this purchase more than worth it. In fact, I would agree with many customers that sonos is a life changing purchase. One of the better ones I've ever made, despite the high pricetag.
If you're an average joe like me that enjoys tech gadgets and loves listening to music in every room of your house, you won't be disappointed. If you're an audiophile nerd who must have the clearest sound money can buy, then look elsewhere. This product is not for you.
The sub is probably the one sonos speaker where I would say sound quality matches the pricetag. Even without the sonos functionality, this powered sub puts out base that is worth the $700 pricetag. Would recommend it, but only if you already have the playbar.

I wanted great sound in our living room but didn't want the big speakers and cables. The Sonos Play 3 is the perfect combination of big sound in a relatively small package. Also easy to operate from various devices (phones, tablets and computers).

Ok, so I’ll start by saying this was not my first choice (I wanted the Play 5) but the combination of great sound for the size and a discounted price did the trick. I also took into account I needed a speaker stand and was less than happy to see the omes for Play 5 run in the upper $100’s while those for Play 3 run around $40-$60. Small to Medium size room or patio...good. I would not recommend for large rooms as the sound is not that full and it laks base (mids ans high are very good). Paired with the Playbar + Sub as an extra speaker on the other side of the room is very good. If you’re price concious and the room size permits, go with the play 3. If you need it fr a big room and don’t necessarily mind about the $500 plus $180+ for the stand...then go for the Play 5.

This speaker has great sound for the size. I was impressed with the easy set up process. Last speakers we had to take back because they keep loosing the signal and had to be set up again, no issues with this speaker.

Great room filling sound for my study and small enough to provide real portability to other parts of the house including screened in porch. I am really impressed with the quality of the bass with no distortion as I like high volume at times.

I have been a Sonos fan since purchasing my first Play 5. Since then I have also purchased a Play 1 and Play 3. The Play 3 as you may imagine falls somewhere between the 1 and 5 in terms of audio depth. The 3 has better base response than the 1 but the high's do not seem much better to me. I use this in an office where it is plenty loud enough. Connection of all Sonos products is a breeze which makes these systems so popular for whole house audio.

System is very easy to setup and provides an excellent sound quality. The multi-room use is awesome, allows users to select different rooms and have different music/TV or have the same music/TV playing in all the rooms at once.

The Sonos 3 unit was easy to set up and connected easily to my Pandora and I Heart Radio accounts. Provides deep rich sound. It's more expensive than a lot of other Bluetooth units, but it's worth it. I highly recommend.

I bought the Play 5 as my first Sonos purchase, and absolutely loved it. Days later I found myself in the store purchasing two Play 1 speakers to add to my set. Within a week I ended up purchasing 2 of these speakers (the Play 3) as well as another Play 1, totaling my count to 6 speakers, (one Play 5, two Play 3s, and three Play 1 speakers!) At the start, I had 0 intention of buying so many speakers, especially because they seem pricey, however they are really priced well considering their features. The fact that they connect so easily to my home network, and the software is really easy to use, and I had no static or any issues with the wifi (they are crystal clear even at the loudess settings, and they stream instantly as if they are wired). Additionally, I was originally looking at Bose, but doing a side-by-side comparison in the store, I chose to invest in Sonos because I really didn't hear a difference, plus Sonos was less expensive, and the salesperson told me that the software interface is more user-friendly, which is great because I'm fairly tech-savvy but even the non-tech people in my family have been able to use this system with ease.
At first, I thought it would be a set-back that you cannot stream via iTunes, or computer sounds, per say - you MUST use Sonos's app/program, therefore only songs loaded into Sonos's library can be played (as well as the multitude of free, actually extremely useful, streaming radio stations.) However, the program (for pc) and app operate very similarly to iTunes, so it's really intuitive to use. All I had to do is direct Sonos to my iTunes folder (or any other folder where your music is saved) and it saves it to it's library - it won't literally copy the files, so you don't need to worry about it taking up any extra space, it just looks in that directory. I have several wifi devices as well as computers and I can control all of the speakers from any of the devices (even multiple devices simultaneously) without any delay. I have a speaker in my basement, and the moment I click Play while being upstairs (2 stories up, but on the same network) it starts playing instantly, as if it were wired. Lastly, I added on a Seagate Central (NAS) hard drive to my network recently, and decided to move my music library to that wireless hard drive. I redirected Sonos to the folder on there and it works just as well as if it were on my computer - there's no difference...the actual benefit to this is that I don't need to leave a computer on to play from the Sonos. So now my set up can be easily controlled from a tablet, my phone, iPad, iPod touch...pretty much any device with Windows/Android/iOS without the need of accessing my PC. I have about 50 gbs of music and when adding to the Sonos app, it took about 5-10 minutes for it to load - but this is just an initial load to allow Sonos to read all of the album art, and build an index. From there everything else is instant. I tested it out by first only adding a few gigabytes and it took about 30 seconds to a minute to build the index - again this is only for the initial setup of the music directory. All in all I am thrilled with the entire Sonos speaker set, and definitely plan to add more in the near future because I have them all spread out throughout my house so that in times of a party, etc there is continuous flow of music and they are well hidden - at a mere fraction of the cost of what a piped-music system would cost! A final note I forgot to mention above is that all of the speakers can be controlled simultaneously as a group (where you can have them all set to the same volume, or even adjust each volume to different levels) or individually, simultaneously - meaning that from the app, I can play a different song on each speaker simultaneously - there's no sort of "log in" per speaker, each can be controlled on the fly. I definitely recommend any of the Sonos Play Speakers to everyone!

Sensational Sound System!

Starting last year, I purchased a Sonos surround sound system for my home theater and I loved it so much that I later purchased a Sonos play 3 for my kitchen. Well, just before Christmas I bought another play 3 to complete the kitchen set-up. My wife enjoys listening to her tunes while she's working there and the beautiful sound can include the living room for a house-rockin' effect thanks to the wireless flexibility of the system controlled by the simple-to-use and set up Sonos app. Hopefully, by this summer, I will add a new play5 to the mix so I can expand my sounds to my patio and beyond!

I have every bit of Sonos gear except for the Sub and the Amp. I bought this Play:3 to finish my family room surround setup with my Playbar and of course it's great for that, though overkill. The surround effects would be well served by a Play:1, but I like using the setup for music too, so I picked the 3s. In my opinion the 3 is the best of the Sonos speakers. I prefer the midrange on the 3 to the 5, and I don't really miss the extra bass depth of the 5 with most of the music I enjoy. It's size is easier to fit into a room, though the 5 isn't exactly huge. It sounds great on its own, but makes a really great stereo pair. I'm a high-end audio guy, and I use Sonos throughout my home, even in my home theater where all the serious equipment lives (a Connect:).
Of course, all the goodness of Sonos accrues to the Play:3. Simple setup, access to all the music in the world and wireless networking that doesn't tax my Wifi network.
If you are going with your first Sonos, do the Play:3. The Play:1 is great, but the extra $100 for the Play:3 buys you a much more satisfying experience - deeper bass and a much larger soundstage. The Play:5 is also fabulous if you can afford it but if your budget is an issue you're better off saving for a second Play:3 than having just one Play:5.
Truthfully, you can't go wrong with any Sonos. Pick your price point and enjoy all the music you have, and much much more. I've listened to sound equipment for over 30 years, and for the price, flexibility and simplicity, there is no better sounding music source.
