Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Play:5 Wireless Speaker's superb sound quality, ease of use, and strong bass. Many also appreciate its straightforward setup and attractive design, although some find the price to be high. A few users noted the speaker's weight and some compatibility issues with certain devices. Overall, the positive feedback on audio performance outweighs the negative comments regarding cost and compatibility.

Elegant packaging. Solidly built and attractive design. Super easy to startup, connect to various streaming sources and control from multiple devices. Apps feature of "grouping" speakers for one-touch control of all is excellent. Auditioned the Play-3 and Play-5. Play-5 is significantly more expensive and WORTH IT !! Speakers produce excellent sound allowing low volume with high quality. Very good bass punch. Had one question regarding app, Customer Service was prompt & competent.

I was told installation was easy. Install the app and follow the instructions. I installed the app but can't get it pair with my phone. I tried using my computer but the installation program instructs me to connect it directly into my router for set up but then it won't work without the direct connection. 2 calls for support were not helpful, I was told I needed to purchase another component in order to complete the set up 2 feet from my router. Currently not worth the $500 price for wireless speakers if I have to plug it on my desk next to my computer speakers to get it to work.

EXPECTATIONS: After spending a sufficient time researching what wireless sound system I wanted for our home, I had a good idea that the Sonos wireless speaker system was the best option to meet the needs of our family. The most important feature for us would be the sound quality and ability to add additional speakers in several rooms over time. The second feature important to us was the ability to use the music on our iPhones, iPads, Samsung phone and laptops. We wanted to be able to listen to the libraries on these devices and the ability to access our iTunes library. In addition, we wanted to be able to stream live music from the internet and access live radio stations. QUALITY: I could not be more impressed with a sound system I was very skeptical about the quality of the sound, but I was pleasantly surprised just how good it sounds. I can’t wait to add speakers to more rooms to get the “full-effect” of the Sonos experience. SET UP: When purchasing the system at Best Buy, I was a little skeptical on just how easy it was going to be. The salesman said it would take just a few minutes. When I got home and we took it out of the box to set it up, it literally took 5 minutes until we were listening to our music. It was extremely easy and it didn’t take an IT genius to figure it out! SATISFACTION: My family could not be happier! We all enjoy playing our music libraries at home and take turns listening to our favorite songs. It has added a very positive element to our home as we listen to each other’s music and dance around the house. The ability to change songs and the volume from anywhere in the house has been a big hit with my family! From the purchase and product knowledge the salesman had at Best Buy, to the simple set-up to the ability to listen to all of the internet music we love. RESEARCH: The online research I conducted was very helpful. I not only read product specifications, researched pricing across different brands, researched brand capabilities, I also paid attention and read quite a few customer reviews. Most all of the reviews I read on various sites were giving the product a 4 star or above rating. They all agreed it was a high-quality product, easy to set-up and very user friendly. They were also able to verify the different music platforms that were compatible with the Sonos product. This helped significantly to making my decision on purchasing the Sonos product.

Great if all you listen to are streaming services

Pros: Great room filling sound. Very easy to setup. I was setup and playing music in less than 5 minutes after opening the box. Control app is easy to use. It does have a line in which at the time of this review the Play 3 & 1's do not. Cons: The unit is really built to work with streaming services like pandora. You can play music/podcasts from your devices. But the source is really limited and controlling. It does have a line in. However, for myself I didn't find the line-in very useful. It's too big of a speaker to put it anywhere where I might want a line to go into it. Such as my computer room. And the line-in isn't really adequate for a media room. Personally I would prefer the Play 3 or play 1 have a line in instead of the play 5 if there was a choice. I was not able to find a good control option for Linux. So I was limited to controlling the unit from my phone. There's a couple of ugly hacks to control it from Linux, but that didn't appeal to me. My point here is that the Sonos system really forces you into a very strict form of which speakers serve what functionality and really over control the source of input. There's little creativity in setting up a Sonos system. Overall: I really liked the unit at first and I read many of the reviews. So I felt prepared for it to be streaming service centered. However, after using it for a few days I ultimately determined the speaker was not a mature enough product for me. It's heavy focus on streaming music sources like pandora really limit it's usefulness. It's also in the need of a platform independent way of controlling it. It is my understanding some of my concerns can be addressed by the Sonos connect. However that was not a satisfactory solution for me due to it's price and yet another component to buy. Ultimately I took the unit back. If all you want to listen to is Pandora, spotify, or services like that. Then This speaker probably will work good for you. Otherwise I would recommend waiting until the product matures a few years down the road and try something else.

This speaker kept skipping songs every 5 seconds, literally. It was too frustrating to enjoy it. When I read reviews about this issue, I saw that several others were experiencing the same issue. I returned it and purchased the Bose brand and I am very satisfied with it.

The Sonos Play:5 is my first Sonos product and so far I'm very impressed with it. The sound quality is top notch, with crisp highs and deep bass, not found in speakers of this size. I purchased one of these for my Bedroom and could not be happier with it! The alarm clock feature is great and I really like the styling of this speaker as well. I'm tempted to purchase a second one to setup as a stereo pair. This would be way overkill for my Bedroom, but would make an amazing Living Room setup.

The Sonos Play 5 delivers the very best audio experience I've experienced out of anything its size--the ease of setup and overall fully integrated app experience takes things to another level. I had to buy a couple more to put one in different areas of my home.

They sounded really good in the store, but even better at home!! I've read reviews of people talk about listening to high-end headphones and declare that they hear sounds from their favorite music that they never heard before, and I always took that with a grain of salt. After playing just a handful of songs on the Sonos 5 thru the Music app on my iPad Pro however, I can't stop grinning. It's true! I hear sounds/background sounds/harmonies that I never heard previously when listening to my Bose PC speakers or Bose Wave Radio, or even from my car's speakers. I used to love the low end (Sub) sound from my other speakers and was thinking I would eventually get a Sub for these, but these things have changed my outlook on how I want to hear music now. I'll be treating myself to a second one next month for my birthday :)

I tried the others in my large room with 22 ft ceilings and the sound was just lost. Bass was terrible when turned up. But this Play 5 sounds amazing. Can turn it all the way up, no distortions, great bass. Finally happy

This product is definitely worth its cost. Every time I have company over and I play music I am complimented on my sonos speaker. The sound quality and clarity of this speaker is the best I have heard. The Sonos app you need to play your music off this speaker is user friendly and easy to set up. It has a built in subwoofer that just is unbelievable. I actually have this connected to my Samsung tv through an Aux cord and it works as a little soundbar.
