Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Play:5 Wireless Speaker's superb sound quality, ease of use, and strong bass. Many also appreciate its straightforward setup and attractive design, although some find the price to be high. A few users noted the speaker's weight and some compatibility issues with certain devices. Overall, the positive feedback on audio performance outweighs the negative comments regarding cost and compatibility.

The crisp sound quality of this Sonos speaker is totally on point. I purchased it to go with a turntable I purchased. I am completely satisfied with the overall sound, depth, and ease of use of this product.

New to us house was not prewired for stereo so Sonos was a great solution. As part of stereo pair, it sounds as good as my larger conventional speakers in a large room.

    Connection problems

Be warned that this speaker has MANY connection problems. It connects when it wants to. It doesn’t work through Bluetooth, it’s all WiFi. I’m not sure if I got the dud but every time I contact sonos explaining all my connection problems and everything I have done to fix it they don’t even read the message and ask me to go back to step one as if that’s gonna make a difference. I’ve contacted sonos so many times. It’s ridiculous at this point how terrible their customer service is. I also want to clarify that the speaker does sound amazing. Has great bass and sounds perfect. The only problem problem is the connection. If I had known that I was gonna have this many problems with it I would have never purchased it. Biggest mistake ever. Regret purchasing it. I spent $500 on a paper weight.

Great sound, but some major downsides

    - great sound - no 5GHz wifi - if planning to connect to TV through linein, do not buy this speaker. Large delay, so the audio is no longer synced with video - no native support for airplay

This product is great. The only thing missing is an easy way to add Bluetooth capabilities. That would make it a 5+ star product.

Only as good as it's weakest link!

There is no doubting that it outputs fantastic sound but unfortunately the software is really weak and you are forced to use it. An unfortunate side effect of not having bluetooth. Why would one give up a great application like Spotify which is a joy to use only to be replaced by this awful one.

Don't count on long term support

I own a first gen Play 5. Was just informed by Sonos that they are ending support and that I have to split my system or my newer speakers will not get support either. This breaks the ability to play the same music through out the house which is how this was sold. Do not count on long term support or backwards compatible updates. Very disappointing and will not be adding more speakers from Sonos. Buyer beware.

Thank you for being a long time Sonos owner! Please visit blog.sonos.com to get more information on how ending software support for your first generation Play:5 will impact your system. In May, you will not be required to split your system. If you have legacy devices mixed with modern devices your system will maintain the functionality that it has today but will not receive new software updates. john.milton

    Do not buy Sonos

    Posted .

For the better part of a year Sonos has known about the problems with streaming from your phone and done nothing to rectify the issues. They sell these products and claim that you can play music straight from your phone and still take phone calls and use your phone as you normally would. This IS NOT the case. Music will constantly skip your songs while playing from your phone. There is no fix for this and Sonos will just offer excuses when you contact support. Sonos speakers are VERY EXPENSIVE and DO NOT OPERATE the way that they claim they will. Don’t get suckered into these products and flush money down the toilet. DO NOT BUY SONOS!!!!

For $500, you should expect the Play 5 to just work. It just doesn't. After only a few months of use, the speaker has taken itself completely off the wifi network and won't rejoin. It will play if I have it wired to my router, but that kinda defeats the purpose of a wireless speaker, doesn't it? Here's where all the Sonos cheerleaders jump in and accuse me of being a ham-fisted troglodyte. "Duh, you have to go into advanced settings, jump in a circle three times, squeeze eye of newt onto the router, yada, yada, yada." First of all, I've tried all that. I've tried everything, and nothing works. Second of all, I shouldn't have to. Everything else works on my network, including credit card readers, receipt printers, Apple TVs, etc... But not Sonos. Worst of all, their customer service is atrocious, assuming you can even get them on the phone. They advertise 24/7 support, but buyer beware, the only 24/7 resource is a fanboy message board where users, not employees, tell you things you already know. If you want to gamble with $500, find the nearest Indian casino and put it on black, your odds are much better.
