This was my first Sonos speaker - and it blew me away. First, set up is a snap and the app used to control and link speakers is incredibly easy to use. The sound is extremely crisp and handles every thing from Classical, Rock, R&B, with ease and just the right balance between treble and bass. So far I haven't experienced any distortion, even at higher volumes and (for audiobook & talk radio lovers) the spoken word is also very clear. In spite of the high price tag, I would actually have given this speaker 6, or more, stars except for the fact that the Sonos app no longer supports Audible audio books natively. I love audio books so this was a real issue for me. However, since my iPhone still has an earphone jack, I have been able to listen to my audio books through the "line in" outlet on the back of this speaker and I chose not to return it. The newer iPhones do not have an earphone jack and so could not connect to the speaker in this way. If your primary purpose is to listen to Audible audiobooks via a new iPhone, you may want to consider a different speaker - or figure out another work around before you buy this speaker. Sonos has said that "they are working to reinstall access to Audible in their app" for over a year now...not sure if a fix is in sight yet.

The speaker is so worth it. You can hear every little sound coming out of it. But I did consider returning the speaker because of how limited the app is. You can only play music wirelessly through your phone and only through the sonos app and it can only play music. If you watch a youtube video then it doesn't play the audio through the speakers. The only way to do that is by connecting the speaker to an aux cable. You can't play music wirelessly through your computer even though you can download the app on your computer. When you set your alarm, it only allows you to use music from your music apps. It doesn't let you use music that is on your phone. You can't use the sonos trueplay unless you have an iphone or ipod or ipad. When I bought the speaker, I expected it to be able to connect to my TV's audio but you can only do that with the sonos playbar. I should rate the speakers with 3 stars because of how limited the app is but the sound quality of the speakers are good enough that I bumped it up to 4 stars.

The play 5s still sound a little harsh to my ear at higher volumes. I turned off the loudness and turned down the treble and bass so I could turn the volume up....still a little harsh, but not as bad. I still suffer from listener fatigue. The play 1s and sub are better

The PLAY5 is a great way to set up a new wireless system. One great thing is that this is not a bluetooth speaker - it is a networked speaker that uses your home WIFI network to connect. Add other SONOS speakers and be able to control all the speakers individually from your mobile device.

The SONOS Play:5 is the best compact speaker system I have ever heard. I have all types of speaker systems, from BOSE, SONY, JBL, KLIPSCH etc and I can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt the sound from SONOS is AMAZING!! You will not regret what you spent on this system. Yes its more expensive than most, but you get extremely good quality! This speaker is also APP driven so its not your traditional system, but once you get the hang of the SONOS app system especially with an iOS device like an iPad or iPhone, you will be hooked. I was so impressed with the Play 5 i bought a second one, immediately after. This is a must have for any home!!

This speaker comes on a stand and connects via blue tooth. Great sound with good bass. Can be used inside, not for outside use. Maybe some day Sonos will have outside speaker.

I combine my Sonos 5 with my Sonos 1 and Sonos sub and it is magic! Very powerful and clean. Will be purchasing the sound bar for my tv next.

Sorry Bose, Sonos is now the pinnacle. Sound quality is out of this world. User friendly setup and operation and the system plays across speakers in multiple rooms flawlessly.

This speaker is a joy. Wonderful range with great bass and a breeze to set up. I purchased a Sonos One for my kitchen and will purchase more Sonos speakers.

the portability and integration as well as stream playing throughout the house is amazing i bought 3 "five", 2 subs a sonos bar and 2 "one" speakers and my house sounds amazing.

Sound is the BEST! This is worth the money. Great to move around from room to room but it is a little heavy.

The play 5 sounds as good as any book shelf speaker on the market. This speaker has great bass and the sound is very clean and crisp. I would recommend this speaker to everyone.

Outstanding sound and easily connected to my system and controls. Just wish I had gotten a wifi capable for those to play music not connect to system.

I am used to the Bose sound system. The Sonos system blows Bose away! The sound is so clear! It was easy to set up and use! My only complaint it that it's not portable.

I have no words for the quality of the speaker. Quality listening is really important for me. There's no doubt that Sonos is up there with Bose. I can feel my room vibrate and still hear the music clearly. I'm just in awe. BUT. I must say. The fact that it is a Wifi speaker and that it only works through its quite buggy app is a bit annoying. I didn't do any research on the subject. I have all apple devices and I thought that it would work with AirPlay or something of the sort, but it doesn't. I have it connected with my Apple TV and I play seamlessly from there. Small but annoying drawback.

We added a Sonos Play 5 to our household sound system. Installed this speaker in our kitchen. Richer sounding with more base than the smaller Sonos speakers.

This speaker packs a punch. Good bass and is super loud. For super sound people it will not provide room shaking bass but it does have great balance.

This sounded really good doing the in-store demo but when we set it up in our home.......AWESOME!!! And, it was very easy to set up. We highly recommend this product.

Unbelievable Sound from a portable speaker. I have the whole home Sonos system and this piece I bring to my outdoor patio. I had a B system and this just destroys it.
