Customers are saying

Customers are impressed with the Play:5 Wireless Speaker's superb sound quality, ease of use, and strong bass. Many also appreciate its straightforward setup and attractive design, although some find the price to be high. A few users noted the speaker's weight and some compatibility issues with certain devices. Overall, the positive feedback on audio performance outweighs the negative comments regarding cost and compatibility.

The Sonos 5 was highly recommended by the consultant at Best Buy Magnolia, but it was when the installer had one in the truck to demo that I was fully convinced and bought the unit right from the truck. Great construction and awesome music selection.

Love the sonos system. I had the One then got the 5 for the living room. Sound is great and the setup could not be much easier.

You will love the sound from the Play5, it is simply one of the best speakers for the money. Diring our last party I unplugged them, brought them on the outside deck and simply plugged them in. You can group to party mode and I can control all my rooms at customized sound levels. If your looking to invest in nextgen speakers, you won't be disappointed in any of the sonos speakers. One tip, the play 1 is a great rear channel speaker for a typical living room home theater set up. Don't overspend for anything more. The sound difference is negligible.

The audio quality is phenomenal. Forget Bose Soundlink! I have a play 5 for my bedroom and 2 play 1's for bathroom and kitchen area. They are work in perfect harmony. No sync issues or anything and I get a seamless music experience all around the house. I mostly use spotify and now sonos can be played directly from the spotify app, which is amazing. Some points to note: 1. There is no way to play audio from your computer into sonos like a bluetooth speaker can. So what that means is that, you cannot play a movie on laptop and expect the sound coming from Sonos. 2. There is no aux input in Play 1. Thats why you should get atleast a play 5 to be a little less restricted. 3. Sonos app in general is a piece of s***. To get around #1, I purchsed an airplay receiver for $30. And now I can beam audio from my "iOS" devices to sonos without sync issues between video and audio. Note that I said iOS, not OSX, because on a mac, there is a significant delay in the audio unless you are using QuickTime player which is a piece of c*** in general. Otherwise for an audiophile, its a very good unit.

Love the Sonos "ecosystem." Easy set up and integration with the Play:1s I have in other rooms. I use the Sonos Controller app on my phone to merge all the speakers and can listen to music or audio books while moving around the house doing cleaning, laundry, whatever - when I don't want to be tied to one room. I used the Line-In port to connect the Play:5 to a TV for better sound, although this is not something Sonos uses as a selling point. Takes some adjusting of TV audio settings but then works well.

I needed some wireless speakers in a new house without a wired sound system. So a Sonos One and Play 5 allow me to play my favorite Pandora stations with acceptable quality music. The Play 5 allows some adjustments to base, etc. and like the One, can be tuned to the room.

I never had the previous generation of Sonos Play:5. However, I am very familiar with Sonos Play:1 and Sonos Playbar. It is a completely different experience when compared to its little brother. The soundstage is excellent and the bass (sometimes too much...) is awesome. If you are looking for a great speaker to exclusively listen to music, you should definitely give it a try. You should also keep in mind that although the Sonos Playbar might not sound as good for music, it offers a little more versatility since it has an optical connection.

Unbelievably big sound from one speaker. There's two downsides to this speaker. 1. It's not cheap 2. I now want a 2nd one for a stereo pair.

I originally purchased a Play 1 for my office. We had a couple Play 5 speakers in our main entertainment room. I ended up returning the Play 1 to purchase this because the Play 1 did not have Airplay (could not play Audible direct from the app) and the room filling sound was underwhelming. I’d highly recommend the Play 5 for all these reasons. The only thing better out there now are high end wired speakers, and due to the lack of in wall wiring, those were not an option.
