really good. however.....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This soundbar is really really good! the sound is very full yet balanced. the fact that it also meets up to date 4k passthrough standards is also a wonderful thing. so in those regards this soundbar is 5 stars. reason why I only put 4 however has nothing to do with the soundbar itself, but for the aspect of surround sound which is why I purchased it. I was told via a best buy rep that the soundbar can pair with the srszr5 wireless speakers to make for a surround sound system. so went ahead and purchased everything...... only to find out that the software update that would enable the soundbar to pair with the speakers has yet to be released. so in otherwords it won't pair until it releases a software update enabling such. if you are just looking for a soundbar and a woofer... this bar is definitely a worthy choice! if you are trying to do a wireless surround sound setup.... I would wait. the fact that sony would release an awesome sounding soundbar, awesome sounding rear speakers..... but yet won't release a software update that bonds the two together just doesn't make sense to me.

Posted .Hi damar1979, here at Sony, we are thrilled to hear that you are enjoying the HT-NT5’s amazing sound quality and latest 4K connectivity. The software update for Wireless Surround will be released end of June, so please make sure that your HT-NT5 is connected to your home internet network. In the System Settings menu, you can also verify that the “Software Update Notification” is turned “On”. This will help ensure your HT-NT5 will prompt you when it's ready for the latest software, including this Wireless Surround feature, as soon as possible.
If we can help you in any other way, please don’t hesitate to contact us at [email protected].

Posted .Hi Jeff,
It is very unfortunate to hear of your experience with your HT-NT5. We understand that the HDMI ARC with your particular unit is giving you trouble. Although this is an uncommon occurrence and could also be affected from the TV side, we would like to provide some recommendations. First, please check that your sound bar is connected by referring to the following guide https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/34162 After verifying the correct wiring, please reset your HT-NT5 by accessing the Setup menu from the home screen. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at 800-222-7669 for further assistance. Regards, ^Ron

Great once set up properly
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Soundbar while it was on sale for $599, set it up and was initially a bit disappointed. I researched the bar and read that wireless rear speakers add to the experience and bought the ZR5 rear speakers for it. HUGE improvement! My TV Room is about 600sqft itself so I was worried about the large space impeding proper sound but it didn't. Watched several movies and the rear speakers greatly add to the ambiance. I wish that the bar itself were a bit louder but that's just me-I have slight hearing issues. The subwoofer will NOT rock you out of your seat like some others do, but it does transfer bass nicely, just don't expect an IMAX experience, maybe an IMAX-Lite. No complaints other than that, and that really wasn't a complaint just personal preference.

Great Sound Bar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was looking for a soundbar to pair with my Sony XBR65900B. This one works great and the sound is amazing. I was initially disappointed in the sound and ready to return the unit. Read something online and tried it. After installation, and the next day, I use the remote to reset all to factory defaults. This did the trick. The bar fired up and he sound was fantastic. Also paired up the SRS-ZR5 speakers. Setup the soundbar for "Surround" sound. Set the remote speakers for 10db and set the Distance correctly. Not returning now. Watched "Skull Island" and the copters were behind me..... Great Bar Great sound...... Finally the surround sound works.

Awesome in the store but Mega lame at home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So for the Black Friday weekend I purchased a brand new Sony 75 inch TV and decided to go with the Sony Sound Bar since at Best Buy it sounded fantastic. As other 1 and 2 star reviews have stated, this system just doesn't have enough power at all. Problem is when you hook it up to the TV with the HDMI ARC port it just simply flat-out does not have enough punch. Even for regular TV you have to listen to it at 80 for it to even sound halfway decent. It's real weakness is the bass. There's virtually little to none. It just has no punch. I did not try music on a stick because I don't have one handy and really if it can't do everything good I'm just not interested. On a positive note, the setup was pretty straightforward and it seemed to work seamlessly with the Sony TV. I also really like the design along with fit and finish. If I turn it up to max volume and shut it off the TV is actually louder than the soundbar although the sound bar does have better overall sound but it's just lacks bass big time! For having a retail price of about 800 bucks it's definitely not worth it. I paid half that at 399 because of a $200 Black Friday sale and a $200 bundle discount. In my opinion it's still not worth the $400. I'd rather pay a few extra bucks and get a system that actually has some decent punch to it. I wish I would have read some reviews on it before I purchased it. I guess I'm off to the drawing board again as far as a sound bar. In my opinion don't waste your money unless you don't care about getting rich loud sound. If you catch it on sale for 400 or less and you really don't crank your TV it will do but my guess is there's better options out there. This was my first sound bar but it's definitely going back to Best Buy tomorrow. And for the record mr. or mrs. Sony (whoever is posting here in rebuttal) I did go through all the settings and resets but to no avail. This thing just has no umph! The TV on the other hand, I am loving it! Signed, Disappointed

Something is missing
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the Sony850c Tv from BB and this Soundbar & Subwoofer. My Tv speaker is louder than this soundbar/woofer. Every other day i have to go to the controls& manual to activate,re-activate or just get it to work. I wanted to return it the first week i got it, but i hate repacking, reloading and returning and hope everything will still gel. And a Sony rep reassures me it will work Every other day ,the speakers will be on but no output, i have to switch back to TV speakers...so what is the point of having this? I ask Sony again if this equipment is compatible with my TV, they said yes it is,even though it does not show up on the SyncMenu Supported Audio Systems. Isn't the OSD sound field supposed to show on the screen when i change from sports-movie or music? I have to get up to see the changes on the soundbar so i can select the correct mode, when the soundbar does works. Since it involves going to the soundbar every time, i wont change it anymore,i thought i should be able to see my selections on the screen, but i do not. I have this giant soundbar/woofer that are just occupying space after creating some bigger hole in my wallet. It has not been a great experience for me, and i am an almost complete online shopper, who has great testimony about my buys, this purchase leaves me with a lot of regrets. Is there an option to recommend it to someone that is not a friend?

Posted .Hi KayBoy,
We are disappointed to hear that your experience with your HT-NT5 has been lackluster thus far. We would like to give you some recommendations to help assist your possible connections.
- If using HDMI to transfer the audio signal, first, please make sure that you have the HDMI connected via HDMI Out on the HT-NT5 to the HDMI 4 port on the Sony 4K TV. This will enable ARC.
- Second, if HDMI continues to give you trouble, please try connecting your TV to the HT-NT5 via Digital Optical instead.
- If these wiring solutions do not resolve your issue, please reset both the sound bar and TV.
For further assistance, please feel free to refer to the following link for options to connect your TV to your HT-NT5. https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/34162
If we can provide any more information or assistance, please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or call 800-222-7669. Regards, ^Ron

Unreliable Garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sure, the thing sounds great, and was even easy to set up the first time, but no matter how much trouble first time set up gave you, don't worry you will be getting a lot of practice. I purchased this unit after the Wireless Surround sound feature was released for it, in early 2017. First step out of the box a lengthy software update to download the Wireless Surround sound patch. Smash cut to 5 hours later and I have finally managed to get everything set up (with a pair of SRS-ZR5s). Things worked great during the honeymoon, for the first several months, just long enough for you to throw away the box and lose the receipt, then things started going down hill. First the subwoofer would lose connection every day (eventually unable to connect ever again). Then the Wireless Surround sound settings would get lost once a week (This is especially amusing when the sound from the movie you are watching cuts out so a disembodied robot voice can announce "DISCONNECTED"). Then the cherry on top, over night the menu stopped coming up. Now when you turn the thing on, if you try to bring up the options menu it hangs for about 10 minutes and then crashes. I can still get sound out of the sound bar if I wait 15 minutes for the thing to warm up from standby, but at this rate I will never get the Wireless Surround set up again. Their support is a joke, they offer to have it shipped to New York and back (after I finish driving back to Best Buy and having them print me up a receipt), but looking around online I find many stories of other customers who have sent their units off for repair multiple times for this exact issue. On the phone the support people act shocked like they have never heard of such a thing, but when I went digging I found posts and video of this issue from back in 2016. I would just cut my losses and buy a new brand, but that means I will also have to sell off the satellite speakers. This thing is a piece of garbage, and you should stay away.

Superb soundbar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent hours reading reviews on forums, amazon, and bestbuy.com. I spent another couple hours inside of bestbuy listening to the different sound bars that was on display. I came across this one and it just stood out to me. The girlfriend said it was out of our price range, BUT they had an open box for 1/2 the price. It was a steal. Sound is excellent, our room configuration allows it to replicate a surround sound system. Bass and highs are good. Future proof with 4K pass through and HD audio decoding. With being able to expand to wireless rears is also a plus in case I decide to move it to the living room. Bluetooth works flawlessly. Love this soundbar.

Went thru 2 in 3 days
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I set it up thru ARC to my new Sony XBR-55X850, thinking the package would work great together. It did for one day, then the soundbar would not give any sound the next day. I spent several hours online with Sony support and called and spoke with a live person 3 times. To no avail, they would just basically read the same thing as what was on Sony e support. I finally called BestBuy and they said to return it because it could of been a bad batch! After reading all the reviews, at least I am not alone, but $500 (using a $200 deal) is too much for something that doesn't work properly. I am majorly disappointed, because it did sound good (not as loud as I would expect in TV mode), but for Bluetooth you could really hear the 400 watts. I will be returning this tomorrow and I am looking for something compatible and better than this sound bar.

Posted .Hi Suecano,
We are glad you enjoyed the sound of the HT-NT5 while streaming via Bluetooth, however it is unfortunate you experienced this issue with your unit. Although this may not be a common experience, we would like to recommend to please try the following wiring options to connect the HT-NT5 to your Sony TV. We recommend connecting through HDMI directly to the HT-NT5, then 1 HDMI connected from HDMI (Out) on the sound bar to HDMI (ARC) on the TV.  https://us.en.kb.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/34162 . We hope these recommendaations can help remedy your issue. Please do not hesitate to contact us at 800-222-7669 or [email protected] for further assistance.

A good sound bar for the money!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I did a lot of research when I purchased my HD TV and settled on the Sony 930e. I went to the Best Buy to buy the TV, and I was talking to the Sony mfg rep about my selection. He mentioned that Sony/Best Buy had a special going on and if I purchased the HTNT5 with my TV, I would save a $200. The sale price was $399. They had a 930 on the floor with an HTNT5 attached. When he turned it on, I said,“ At that price, I have to have one of these.” As you would expect, the rep explained the Sony to Sony compatibility advantages. Not planning to buy a sound bar, I went over and listed to other products. I found nothing I liked any better, without spending considerably more. The TV and sound bar are attached via the HDMI/ARC port, and I have not experienced any problems. The system comes on and off automatically. Every once in a while the bar will not come on, but 90% of the time it works correctly. The system sounds very clear, crisp highs and deep rich base, even with the subwoofer on the floor behind my TV stand. I do wish it had a little more midrange. I was watching a movie scene of a snowstorm, and with the TV speakers, I could hear the nuances of the wind whipping. With the NT-5, I could barely make it out. (I did the same test with the subwoofer facing the audience) All in all, I am pleased with the system! I will update my review should I encounter any problems I will update my review.

Great sound, glitchy setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The good: What a beautiful sounding soundbar. Formerly I had a five-year-old Vizio soundbar connected by optical cable. It was way better than the TV speakers but dialogue was often fuzzy and the subwoofer often took over ... music was way louder than dialogue, generally spotty performance. With this soundbar, the sound is piped in via HDMI (ARC-OUT) directly from my TV to the system and vice versa. Sound is full and natural sounding, bass is never distorted, a wonderful listening experience. If I turn it up, wow, it fills the room with beautiful sound. The bad: After a couple hours of fiddiling, I got this to work with all my remotes and do wanted I wanted it to do ... except for one thing: On my LGOLED65b7p TV, when I switch to Netflix or Amazon, sounds great, works great, but whenever I select back to the cable box to watch TV again, the Sony soundbar homescreen pops up and voila, I've been unwillingly switched to the "USB" input instead of HDMI 1. I have to reselect HDMI1 to get back to TV. I've heard this whole ARC-OUT / CEC setup is pretty glitchy, but jeez. I spent an hour chatting with a Sony tech person and, big surprise, she concluded the fault was my TV, not her blameless soundbar. Nonsense. Why can't this thing stay on HDMI 1 and just remain locked there?
