What a remarkably BAD product
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This setup sounded surprisingly good in the store, but when I got it home...? Wowza! What a stinker! No bass response from the sub. What came out of the sound bar sounded like over-processed horror amplified by soup cans. This is the Toby Flenderson of home A/V gear.

Unfortunate
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unfortuanatly, the Subwoofer has Issues and only last around 13-14 months. You can look up all the complaints under the part #SA- WCT290. Best Buy should have made Sony Repair at No Charge. Repair is more than a new unit.

Not Good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Complete junk. Sound bar was always out of sink with lip movement. Had to reset it everyday. Even called Sony support and they remotely reset the sound bar. It was good for a few hours then back to being out of sink between sound and lip movement. Returned to Best Buy

Great Basic Sound Bar
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony HTCT290 is my first sound bar. I have previously used 5.1 surround setups. Realizing this Sony is a 2.1 my expectations to were to simply improve on my televisions built in sound. Setup was truly a breeze. The way to go if your tv supports it is to connect the sound bar to the ARC audio return channel HDMI. This will then require only one cable for setup. Simple. For added functionality make sure you turn on CEC in your televisions settings. This will enable your tv remote to control the sound bar volume. I literally connected the sound bar to hdmi and plugged in both the sound bar and the subwoofer and I was up and running. Wow. Sure didn't expect it to be that simple. Since the sub is wireless this gave me the freedom to place it anywhere in the room. In my case I hid it under a piece of furniture. Bass isn't directional so placement anywhere works. The included remote is pretty basic but does everything I need it to. With it you can quickly change to the 4 different audio modes which are optimized for different listening experiences. There is a movie mode, music mode, voice mode, and night mode. Each has subtle differences which highlight the source content. I do like the night mode for watching tv late at night at lower volume. Pretty cool. With the remote you can also select input sources including tv, Bluetooth and USB. The USB feature lets you fill a USB flash drive with music and connect it directly to the sound bar using the USB port on the rear. Nice feature. Sound quality is quite good. Volume is certainly more than sufficient and is a substantial improvement over my televisions audio. Bass is great and can be adjusted using the remote. Connecting via Bluetooth was simple. Music over Bluetooth sounds good, certainly adequate but don't expect to be blown away. Overall a great value for the money. Recommended.

Didn’t work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound bar was an impulse purchase when I bought a tv. If I had read the reviews , I wouldn’t have bought it . There’s a lag between lips moving on screen and sound coming from the sound bar. I returned it with no problem.

Base speaker not working
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this sound bar not long ago & the base speaker will not work. The manufacturer date is less then a year old, but Best Buy will not stand behind the products they sell. Will not buy anything from Best Buy again.

Junk.
||Posted . Owned for more than 2 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This sound bar is one piece of trash. Within few months the wireless subwoofer stopped working and won’t turn on. Neither Sony or Bestbuy has offered a solution or help.

Good among the competition
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought at $150 during black friday, sounded better than everything else at that price in a 2.1, 2 speaker bar with wireless sub. Very crisp highs and adequate sub woofer. Super easy setup, especially if your tv has hdmi port. We plugged in the power cord and hdmi cable into our sony tv and were up and running. Turns on and off with tv remote as long as you have an hdmi/arc port, otherwise use the optical cable and then you have to use the soundbar remote. Not a true surround sound system so, like most 2.1 systems, it has a limited field width - you wont hear effects coming from all around you -but if you want crisp diologue and decent lows from movies it works well. Does have a few limited options for tweaking sound, clear audio, clear voice, movie vs music (movie setting widens sound field, music compresses and adds bass.), and one or two more.

No power
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked it while it lasted. I barely used it actually, and one day it just wouldn't turn on anymore, of course right after the 1 year warranty expired. Out 200 bucks.
