Great combination and value for money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Both the soundbad and subwoofer are of great quality. I never had problems with it. The bass is really good and it's enough for a room of size 500sqft easily. My woofer stopped working after few years and I had the geek squad warranty which helped me quite well as well.

Clear sound BUT not theatrical
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Clear and crisp speaking sound, for movie scenes that don’t contain much background sound, maybe like a chess match, political debate or a growing vegetable; No seriously it’s a nice crisp sound BUT lacked the enhancement of all the background sound details which made the difference in the movie watching experience and that make you feel that you’re inside the movie. Buy the Vizio soundbar if you want a theater experience in this price range. I compared both for hours and couldn’t help but to notice that the vizio delivered a much much better theatrical experience because it brought out all the background sound details like water, wind, foot steps, door squeaks, background music... etc.

good price for soundbar too much for subwoofer
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was excited to see this Sony soundbar on sale at my local BB. I wanted to improve the movie experience in our living room which is a very "active" or "live" room regarding sound. I have used other soundbars at another house all with the wireless subwoofer and have been very pleased with the output and the quality of the bass and movie effects. I am also a very proud purchaser of other Sony products including a recent Sony XBR55X900E series 4K Tv that this sound bar was purchased for. However, I cannot be more disappointed in my decision to purchase this product and I will be returning it to BB. The unit does not allow you to change the EQ to ideal ranges based on the environment. It only provides a few pre-set choices and I have not been able to get ANY DECENT BASS to be heard. Went through troubleshooting guide and made several attempts to get more base. Tried both HDMI ADC and Digital Optical connections. No change. Viewing movies i could just use TV speakers and the sound was similar. Sound bar is ok but if you want bass and are looking forward to watching your favorite movie and being immersed into the sound effects you will be greatly disappointed! Will I stay with Sony while looking for a replacement? That question has not been answered at this time.

Not worth it
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m giving 3 stars because when it works, it sounds great. It is Wednesday March 13th and I bought this sound bar on Monday March 11th. It will only play a show or movie for about 10-15 mins before the sound starts breaking up and it’ll stay like that for over 5 mins. Sometimes it’ll resolve itself but most the time I have to pause what I’m watching. Bluetooth works like a charm but the tv option is garbage. Will be returning.

great entry level sound bar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this on sale for my college age daughter. It has great sound quality and a huge improvement over TV speakers. Still trying to figure out how to get a bit more bass out of the sub woofer but all in all a nice package.

Great Sound!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I don't get the complaints in the reviews about bass response. The sub hits deep and hard, especially for it's size. A lot of bass response has to do with the placement of the sub, too. It's wireless. Put it in a corner, and it comes alive. The sound from the front speaker is crisp and clear. Pairs nicely with my Sony XBR X800E 55" TV.

Sound is ok, Bass is non existant
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bough this sound bar to go with my Sony x900F 65" thinking that because it was a sony it would pair well. setting it up was very easy and i had the sound working in about 15 mins, after i figured out i had to make some changes to the TV itself. I would have thought being a sony sound bar The TV would have just noticed it. The biggest down fall for me is that i was replacing an LG sound bar that i had connected to the TV for two reasons, 1. it is an older modal so it doesnt have HDMI to use the ARC on the back of the new TV, and 2. the LG is a little tall so it would block the IR blaster of the TV. Well turns out that i am better off using the LG modal as this thing just puts out no bass what so ever. If something explodes on the screen you get hardly any kind of bass. Kind of Sad in that my 5 year old LG gives a lot more. I will most like likely be returning this and getting a newer LG that has HDMI so that i can use the ARC input.

Great soundbar for the money.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little worried when I saw the only review mentioned it wasn't compatible but obviously the other reviewer did not hook it up with the correct cable. If you use HDMI then the TVs CEC will allow control of the soundbar easily. I have this in my bedroom with an older sony tv and a Sony Strdn1070 receiver in my living room with my Sony 4k and both TVs easily control the audio systems with either their factory remote or the universal remote programmed to the tv. No need to program the universal remote to the soundbar. The TV takes care of it all! Audio quality is fantastic for the price. I listened to the comparably priced Samsung and LG and both lacked in bass and voice clarity in the store. The Sony even has adjustments to make voices stand out more (which my salesman didn't tell me, but I noticed the voice setting once I got it home.)

Was good while it lasted
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this sound bar with my Sony Bravia x900e and for the money it was great but the subwoofer stopped working after only a month or two. At first, I couldn’t figure out why the sound quality changed then realized there was no bass. The subwoofer wont even power on. Quite disappointing and I’m not sure about how to get a replacement.

Great Deal
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound Quality is awesome. The bass is adjustable depending on your preference. Overall I am very pleased. This sound bar sounds throughly through the house, you can also hear it in the drive way as well.

This is a great sound bar ...while it works.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We received this soundbar as a 2017 Christmas gift ...here in February 2019 the subwoofer amplifier died. I very rarely give one star reviews; I'm not so much angry as I am greatly disappointed. These are the facts of our experience with this soundbar. *There is a known defect in the subwoofer amplifier section; Sony is well aware of the problem.* If you're lucky, the power supply integrated circuit module dies while you're under the 1 year warranty; all it will cost you is shipping to and from the Sony Authorized Repair Center in upstate New York. Look it up online and you'll find many folks experiencing this issue with failure of the sub woofer; Q&A's will show up in many places online including the Best Buy Community website. We were not so lucky with our sound bar. After 14 months the sub woofer quietly passed from this life. The repair kit supposedly runs $100. The shipping (+ insurance), to and from, will likely run close to $50 or more. And all this is a shame. Because while it was working this was a great sounding unit. It is very easy to install and, with specific flat screen TV's, you can connect the speaker set via HDMI using the ARC connection which provides for volume control and power-on/off whenever the TV is powered on or off; you don't need to use the dedicated remote for these functions. There is a pseudo "surround mode" ...but like most "surround" modes comes off less than desirable. However there is an enhanced voice intelligibility feature which works great. The amount of bass can be adjusted and set using the dedicated remote. The sub woofer uses a Bluetooth connection from the speaker bar and minimizes wiring and simplifies the setup. While not providing "chest cavity" resonating bass, the sub woofer does add some very nice bottom end to the sound. Overall the sound of the Sony, while it was working, was excellent. What we have left is the sound bar itself and even with just the "bar" the sound is immensely better than the cheesy speakers installed in the flat screen. Because of the faulty power regulator IC I cannot recommend anyone purchase this unit; I'm not buying another Sony. In reading of the power issue with the sub woofer life expectancy runs from 6 months to about a year. I'm sure Sony has made a running production change but you take a chance the one you score has had that change; buyer beware.

Sound bar is great, bass is lacking.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For some reason this sounded much better in the store, however, after testing it with music and select movie clips, I would only rate it a 3 out of 5. Though the sound bar sounds significantly better than the TV, it's performance is underwhelming. Even with the bass maxed out, you never quite "feel" what you are watching or listening to. Frankly, its max bass setting sounds like the lowest setting of a proper home theatre system. Also, while using the optical digital cable, I can notice a slight lag in sound -- it's not immediately obvious, but during long dialogue scenes it becomes more apparent. Regardless, I'll be returning it later today.

Good soundbar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good sound bar. I would take it another step and get the 390 model because of the screen that way you know what you're cycling through with the remote

Not Compatible with Sony TV Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was advised by the best buy associate that I would be able to use my Sony XBR-49X700D TV to turn the sound bar on/off as well as adjust the volume if I connected it using the optical or HMDI cable. I used the optical and neither feature works. When I checked the compatible TV's on theXBR-49X700D, this sound bar was not compatible with the TV when it should have been. The sound from the sound bar is great but, very disappointed that I cannot use the TV remote for those features.

a disappointment
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had a hundred dollar reward to blow and a new Sony 49" 720E that needed a little help in the audio department. Although my expectations were low considering this sound bar / subwoofer package was in the low end of the pecking order, I already had a very fine Sony SWF-BR100 subwoofer in another room and was very pleased with it so I figured this would be somewhere in the ballpark. Nothing close. Matter of fact, I could tell no appreciable sound quality increase between either the sound bar or the subwoofer than that of the 720E TV. The margin of volume range of the subwoofer was also negligible. I'm confident there's a Sony sound bar / subwoofer system out there with a satisfactory subwoofer, but probably at much greater expense. I might add that Best Buy graciously allowed me to return this unit with no fuss. On a more positive note, I have since hooked up a Logitech Z623 to my 720E TV with magnificent results and at lower cost. The Z623 subwoofer is absolutely amazing, so much so that it can be run at half volume and still amaze, with some of the richest and deeply resonating bass I have ever heard, even from my main home theater subwoofer, a Definitive 1000 Cube that sold, at the time for $1000. Understand, Sony makes good product, but as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for, with the exception of this Logitech Z623, which in my view is a steal at a little over a hundred bucks. Incredible bass, and I'm not talking about thudding or rattling the windows; I'm talking about a deep resonating waveform that is rich and full, even at low volume.

10 months of regular use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony makes great products. But this isn't one of them. This item was purchased on Nov 25 2017. I still have the receipt. As of Saturday September 2018, the subwoofer no longer powers on. No amount of trouble shooting helped. Turning off. Unplugging it. Even unplugging the soundbar and SW from power and HDMI and leaving it sit, did nothing. I was told though a BestBuy cha session that they can't do anything since it's been 10 months now. ....that's nice of them. I've contacted Sony through a chat session two times and both "Jim" and "Nick" were pretty much useless once I copied and pasted my issue to them. Useless how? Well, they never replied to me. I was sitting there waiting for 10 minutes with no reply. The one star is for a combination of things. The mishap with the product and the shoddy customer service. Product mishaps happen. It's a given. But customer service...Sony needs to clamp down on that. Because of those two things, I cannot recommend this product to anyone. Wanna make a customer change his mind about the cruddy service? Replace the faulty unit with a new one and all is well.
