Sound bar
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It sounds amazing! We all know that the speakers in the TVs aren’t the best. I bought this for our living room and the quality of the sound is great!!

Sorely Disappointed.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Prior to this system, we had a 15 year old Phillips wired surround sound unit. The old system had small speakers (3x9) and we were only using 2 due to the wires. So I decided to purchase this soundbar for my husband for his birthday. In the store, it sounded great! Great reviews online as well. However, I am sorely disappointed in the soundbar / sub in our living room. The sub is non-existent, and even with the bass at the highest setting, you can barely hear it. The "Surround" is non existent as well. I get better sound from our amazon alexa. I would return this, but my husband won't let me due to the fact that it was a present. If I were to purchase again, I wouldn't waste a penny on this unit.

Easy set-up but terrible audio lag
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Last week, I purchased this soundbar thinking it would make my tv/ps4 really come to life, however, this was not the case. While very easy to set up and slick-looking, there was a terrible audio lag (more than half-second lag at times)! To make matters worse, the subwoofer was very lackluster and didn't really add any depth. I called Sony about the issues and they just blamed my tv for the problem, which was frustrating since my tv is brand new. With that being said, I returned it and picked up a 5.1 Vizio soundbar (for only about 20 dollars more) and have never been happier. There is no audio lag and the subwoofer does exactly what it was designed to do, add depth to the overall experience. Maybe you'll have better luck than I did with this soundbar, but I would recommend going with a different soundbar than this model.

Not a fan and not for me...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought a new Sony X900F tv and the way it is designed you cannot control external audio through the optical out with the tv remote. The only reason I bought this sound bar was so I could connect through the HDMI Arc which would allow me to use one remote. The fact that it was on sale and was also a Sony, I thought it would be a no brainer. Long story shortened, I ended up hooking back up to my Vizio sound bar through the optical cable and will live with having to use two remote controls. It’s back in the box and in my car ready to be returned. It sounds super hollow (empty tin can) and the volume fluctuates from too soft, to overly loud, back to too soft. I’m not a fan. The 3 year old Vizio I mentioned earlier is far superior. On a side note, I think it is pretty weak of Sony not allowing the ability to control audio volume through the optical cable in the first place.

Not great, not bad. Non-natural sound.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this under recommendation of the Best Buy associate over JBL, Samsung and a few others. Got it home and the sound just wasn't great. OK for general talk and some movies but the sound is not natural at all. It is over-equalized (way too much highs) and not enough mids and pretty weak bass. Large sound bar, but if you look at the speaker setup, its just two small oval paper drivers JUST LIKE IN YOUR EXISTING TV, just with a sub. The setup is indeed easy and it plays loud. Aside from looking really good, it didn't perform to expectations and I'll be returning this. lastly, no analog input, so you can only connect one optical and one HDMI connection, along with Bluetooth.

DO NOT BUY
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the worst possible system I've ever purchased. Not only did the Best Buy sales associate tell me that the system came with two separate satellite speakers, which it doesn't, the system also lags, by about 3-5 seconds. THE AUDIO AND PICTURE DOESN'T LINE UP. I'm beyond irritated with not only the system but with the Best Buy store. I was about to purchase a vizio system, which had everything I wanted, and it had amazing reviews online when I was persuaded to buy this one, with the promise that it had everything I wanted and it was a better system. NOT. This will be returned ASAP for the vizio system

Has to be loud
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love everything about this soundbar, except for the fact that it has to be above mid level (which is LOUD for this bar) for the bass to actually be noticeable. I found my ears hurting because of the very clear and crisp highs, and I kept trying to turn up the bass only to be met with the blinking "max" bass indicator. I wasn't trying to thug bump my house, just get some halfway decent bass response for rock, country, and gaming without going deaf. Bass is almost non-existent at a normal volume. You're basically stuck between having no bass and good high volume, or decent bass with way too loud high-volume. There is no middle ground. This soundbar also tends to start sounding very strange at higher volumes—like it's in a tin can or something; it's hard to describe. I have a 153w Sony HDX275 5.1 setup that has considerably better bass response and much more usable sound levels, and it's like 12 years old. I only paid about $250 for that one brand new too, so, there's that. If you want good bass without letting the whole town know what you're watching or listening to, don't don't buy the CT290. I'll be taking this back as soon as I can to swap out for something else. Probably in the $300 range. I just can't keep this soundbar. It's almost there, but it falls a little too short.

Sub woofer died
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this in February, and it was wonderful....until the sub-woofer won't turn on. It stopped working in April or May. The sound bar is fine, and an improvement over the sound in my new Sony television (that I love!) but it is disappointing that my subwoofer died within 3 months of purchase, and was never misused during the short time I had it. Can anything be done? Best Buy's site says the return period has ended.

1st unit defective in 2 weeks. 2nd died 4 months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The music is excellent and the wireless subwoofer is beautiful. But that's when it works. The sound quality is so beautiful when it was operating normally - just below that of Dolby Atmos soundbars. Sound Quality 7/10 Value 0/10 The first unit's wireless subwoofer died in 2 weeks and refused to power on, so we got an exchange. The 2nd unit died but this time it was the soundbar itself - after 4 months. What gives? I thought SONY had better Quality control than this. If 1 unit fails because of manufacturing defects then that's understandable but 2 in less than a year is unacceptable. Sony is known to have a horrible warranty service so i'm going to claim the warranty under my credit card but this is unbelievable. I thought Sony was supposed to push innovative technology and quality control into its devices. The fact that Samsung is a more "reliable" brand really makes me reconsider Sony devices sometimes.

Very good sound
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound quality is good and powerful for a living room. I have not turned the volume up to max, because at 70% too much for me. I love the functions. Cons: I don't know if it is possible to add satellite speakers as an upgrade in the future

Great Product Better Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love all the setting this sound bar has. You can customize it to sound like you are in your own little movie theater. The bass on the subwoofer is crisp and does not drown out the dialogue on movies. I highly recommend this product.

Great Price and works fine.

All treble, no bass
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm shocked by all the "great sound" and "like being in a theater" reviews. Subwoofer can barely be heard even when it's volume is maxed out, unless you crank up the soundbar volume until it is shredding your ears and waking up all your neighbors. The sound out of the soundbar is all treble, making everything sound like an old AM radio from the 70's. Even recent movies i tested sound very tinny. There are no individual bass/treble options to be found, so you're stuck with what you get. None of the provided buttons on the remote really improve anything. The only positive about this soundbar is dialogue is crystal clear and easy to understand. Much better than any other soundbar i've tried. So it's too bad that everything else about it is underwhelming.

Very Unsatisfactory
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There is hardly any bass. The sound is a small improvement from my tv's speakers. The sound is almost fully highs and mids. I can not say that I would recommend this to friend or even enemy. I am highly disappointed and will be moving on to vizio or LG. Sorry Sony, you make great headphones and tv's but this soundbar is major weakpoint.

Disappointed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this on a good sale and at the recommendation of 2 Best Buy employees. I was disappointed in the product for the following reasons: I had a bit of a problem connecting the subwoofer, though not a big problem. The subwoofer was pretty weak. The unit would not turn on/off or adjust volume with my tv remote (unit connected with an optical cable). While the sound was nice and "bright" in the store demo, the highs were so "bright" in my living room I thought they were harsh and irritating. I had a headache in a half an hour. There was no way to adjust the treble or bass to correct this. There is only one fixed setting for the sound balance. I exchanged the unit for a Samsung at about the same price. Every one of the above problems was not a problem with the Samsung.

Posted .Hi Leonard, We are sorry to hear this issue with your unit. This isolated problem is can fixed. You can control the soundbar using TV remote control if the unit is connected using HDMI cable and if both devices have Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) feature.
