Many appreciate the straightforward setup process and find the price reasonable for the features offered. Good TV

Great Tv, good color, love all the extra options, and the TV can be very close and the picture is still very clear. 4-H makes a big difference. The only problem is the speakers, the sound is poor. Have to turn the TV up to be able to hear it, so had to buy a sound bar, and this tv is in an avg size bedroom. Too bad, because Sony makes good products they need to make better speakers for this good TV.

    Outstanding picture quality, excellent sound

Before deciding what to buy, I reviewed TVs in the 43" to 50" size range using Consumer Reports Online and Google searches. I decided on the Sony XBR43X830C, but when I got to the local Best Buy store I decided the larger screen on the XBR49X830C was worth the extra $100.00. I'm definitely glad I made that choice. The picture quality is outstanding. It's great for watching sports (Warriors basketball), movies, and everything else. Because I love to watch sports, motion blur was a concern; I don't see any of that on this TV. The lows in the reviews included low brightness levels and black levels lack depth, but out of the box the brightness and black level details are fine. My family room has a lot of windows on the side wall and a window on the wall facing the screen. Brightness is not a problem, and daytime viewing isn't a problem either. Sound through the built-in speakers was just okay, with music overwhelming voice when they were at the same time. So I adjusted the Sound settings to Clear Audio off, Sound Mode Music, Voice Zoom 3, and Night Off. I didn't make any changes to the default Advanced sound settings. Now the sound is excellent. I was going to buy a sound bar, but now I've decided that isn't necessary. Setting up the TV was straightforward. What helps is that the manual for the TV is accessed with the Help button on the remote. I paired a portable Bluetooth keyboard to the TV so using the Smart-TV Android apps and searches are easier. My cable company (Wave) uses a TiVo box for the cable interface and DVR. The Bluetooth keyboard doesn't work with it but I have the TiVo app on my tablet and I can enter searches with the on-screen keyboard. There's also a Sony app for this TV but I haven't installed it yet, but plan to do so though it's not a high priority. I'm glad I chose this Sony model The 4K Ultra HD makes a huge difference in picture quality and viewing satisfaction. Definitely a 5-star TV.

    nice 4k tv

Picked this 4k tv up after getting tired of my 720p 32 inch Toshiba tv. Decided to go 4k. Overall I love the tv. The build quality is nice. The picture quality is great. The only issue I have is slight shadowing along the edges of the picture. I suppose this is normal due to the edge lit led technology. Not a huge issue just me being nit picky.

The new Android TV interface on 2015 Sony's does require firmware updates prior to the use of Netflix (similar to the 2015 Samsung and LG 4K models, not just Sony) Firmware updates can take longer depending on the users ISP speed. There are also many settings on the Sony to adjust picture quality, adjust accordingly to personal desire. The use of proper HDMI cables that support 4K pass through (Ex. Audioquest) KEEP IN MIND if the picture on this model is "dark" to you, this Sony does not come with Trilluminous Display, X850 model's and above give you that extra color feature.

Purchased this as our 1st big screen. It was not what we went in to purchase. Saw the picture and had to have it. Easy setup for us older folks. Very easy directions. Thank you Sony and Best Buy.

    Sony XBR-49X803C

Upgraded to the X803C over my 4-year old Sony Bravia KDL-46NX720 as the NX720 was starting to give me issues with audio switching. The X803C and has made a surprisingly marked difference in clarity, colors and contrast and for just a penny under $1K, this is a great deal. The setup menu, although a different layout than my NX720, was fairly easy to navigate and get going with my new AVR. As a note: As far as mounting the X803C to the stand, the instructions are included in a quick-start guide (in the box) that shows different models, using the same stand/mount and is fairly simple to do as well.

A lot of newer TVs from other competitors offer some similar features, but the AndroidTV capabilities make it great. The remote control also is well designed to work with the interface. A key spec that I really appreciate is that the speakers on this TV (and Sony TVs) are good on their own (no soundbar required). Although LG TVs have good screens, they have absolutely awful speakers. This TV has really good speakers...no soundbar required.

    Sony TV

After only 3 years with a Samsung smart TV (which quit working) I thought I would try a Sony. I couldn't be happier. Great picture, and all the bells and whistles one could want. I have to be honest and say that I don't use the "smart aspects" of this TV, because I favor Roku for my streaming needs. But, I hooked the Roku into HDMI 3 on this TV, use the remote to move to HDMI 3, and all is right with the TV world. Beautiful picture! Got smart, and bought the extended warranty. I paid $900 for the Samsung, and it only lasted 3 years.

    Release is premature

No Netflix app even though it's advertised to have Netflix with 4k streaming and the remote has a giant Netflix button on it. I've spent many hours with Sony customer service who's repeatedly informed me the an update is coming soon and in fact I was told on Sat that an update specifically releasing the Netflix app would be released the next day. It's Tues now and I just spent more time with Sony support only to be told an update for Netflix will not be released for at least another few weeks. Also, Sony support both online and on call do not have proper troubleshooting documentation in hand. Their instructions on how to navigate the menu settings/options are completely wrong. Some options they've asked me to try are located in completely different parts of the settings which required me to hunt for myself as they couldn't help me find it. Other items are simply non-existent on this model completely. I was burned before by Sony with their first gen 4k media box as well. I'm not at the point where I'm going to return this TV and will not be purchasing another Sony product ever. The only positive to this tv is the picture quality and the updated price of $1k. Between the lack of advertised features ready to go out of the box and support not even having the proper material for this model lineup, I stand by my statement that this was released prematurely by Sony.

No Netflixs and a dark picture

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I would return this if I could but I have already discarded the box. I have been a Sony TV guy for 40 years and an XBR purchaser for at least the last 25 years. I have always felt the the quality was worth the extra money. This model (49xbr830) is the worse. Although in normal lighting this has a very good picture with the lights off the picture appears dark. The manual that comes with the TV, and available on line, lacks the detail needed to setup the TV and I am not technology challenged. Netflix is not available and here it is the end of May. Are they waiting for May 31? You can't register the TV on Sony Essentials and I was told by their support it will not available with this TV. The USB ports should power off with the TV but they don't. I operate a USB fan to keep the TV cool in my entertainment center and I need to unplug it when I turn off the TV. As far as I can tell there is no way to use a keyboard or use a browser for the internet. This will be my last Sony TV. Obviously they want to pass off new technology as improved equipment but in this case they have not succeeded. Too bad I used to think they were worth the extra money now I think they aren't worth the money I spent.
