Nice Picture with Annoying Quirk

Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.We're pleased with the picture and features of this television, but we often get an error message when watching some over the air channels indicating that there is "No signal. Antenna not connected or program unavailable." Funny thing is, there is a signal, the antenna is connected and the program we're watching is available. So just clear the error message using the return button, right? Wrong. The error message can't be cleared and the channel/program indicator banner stays put as well - both messages effectively blocking 2/3 of the lower screen. Turning the TV off and back on again sometimes makes the error message and channel/program banner go away. Changing the channel several times sometimes make the channel/program banner go away but the "no signal" message remains. I can understand getting the error message if the picture is pixelating, but that's not the case. The TV's software was updated when it was first installed a few weeks ago. Sony should at least allow the error message to be cleared using a button on the remote. The "no signal" message never appears when we're streaming content, so I don't believe it would be a problem if you intend to watch cable or use streaming services. If not for the annoying "no signal" message (which we get every 2-3 days) I would likely rate the TV at 5 stars. The only other issue that might skew that rating is the sound quality. However, the sound is no better or worse than other TVs in this price range and is overcome by using a soundbar (probably even a cheap one). Bottom line: I would not recommend this TV if you are a cord cutter, but probably would recommend it for streaming content and/or cable viewers.

Hooked it up right away found the colors on the screen life like! Thanks to Erick at Best Buy in Aiea HI for helping decide on this vs the 50” X77! Got to use AirPlay and watch You Tube to see the screen come to life like 3D. Will start using the other streaming apps later after enjoying my Airplay and You Tube on this screen.

If you're between the x77l and the x85k, just spend the extra money. We originally purchased the x77l and the picture quality and sound was not very good at all. We ended up returning it and getting the X85k and I'm so happy we did!

This TV improves on that one in every way. Streaming and gaming is amazing on it. Pictures are clear and fluid. Colors are great. It also has a ton of free channels. I like streaming from my phone onto it but I mostly use the built in YouTube app. The sound is its weakest point, but it still sounds good.

Couldn’t tell if it’s better than OLED, but the 120 hz native refresh rate is nice. Also the speakers are solid. The only gripe I have is that the user interface isn’t the best. Probably could’ve used better processing tech, mostly RAM, to smooth out transitions, but that’s a problem for all smart tvs too, so…

I originally wanted an OLED or QLED TV which would have been overkill as I do not purchase Netflix or Cable only stream through Wi-Fi. The picture is clear, the Bravia and Google TV options give me plenty of choices of movies. Very Satisfied with the results of this product.
