I bought this TV in May of 2016 and it has already quit working. It will not respond to the remote or to the buttons to manually change the channel or volume or turn it off. It is definitely not worth the money.

    So Far-So Good

Well, I read lots of the reviews, especially the bad ones, and still decided to place an order for a SONY XBR55X900c at my local Best Buy. When I went to pick it up, I made sure it had a high serial number (5031XXX) in a damage free container. I figured I have 15 days to check it out, and the price was great for a flag ship set. All I can say is that, so far, I could not be happier! The only drawback, so far, is the sound system, though that may be because of where I currently have it set up. (I kept it simple during the burn in just in case I had to return it. It’s in front of my wall mounted, recently failed LG plasma). This set has a spectacular picture with absolutely NO light bleed, even in a completely dark room. (Believe me, after reading so many reviews, I was hyper sensitive in looking for the problem.) Set up was smooth and easy. Are the blacks as deep as a plasma, no, but, they are pretty close. After all, it is a side lit LED/LCD display with all the inherent limitations of the design, but SONY has done a great job and the overall effect is fantastic. SONY also has apparently slightly dulled the surface finish on the display glass to minimize the room reflections that many people said were so annoying with the previous gloss glass finish. A few observations so far; In reading 100’s of owner reviews, I noticed that all of the owners having significant light bleed problems that posted photos usually had 2 things in common, lower serial numbers (when stated), and they had mounted their sets with the feet on the end corners. I noticed that I had not read of anyone having a problem with edge bleeding when the set was either wall mounted, or set up using the feet in the optional centered position. Now that I have seen the set up close, I have a theory as to why the corner mounting positions may be problematic. There is VERY little frame support material on the corners, and I think the screen is way too thin to support any of the weight of the set, Gorilla glass or not. It may look sexy and sleek, but structurally, I think it may cause micro distortions and torqueing of the display, similar to what happens when you gently press on edges of a LED/LCD computer monitor. Poor initial panel quality control at the factory and successive heating and cooling cycles may exacerbate the problem. I mounted mine with the feet in the central position, and I have noticed that all of SONY’s new 2016 sets only have central mounted supports and slightly thicker displays. The XBR55X900C has plenty of structural frame “meat” in the center to mount and support the set using either the central foot position or wall hanger. It’s all anecdotal at best, but I think SONY’s designers got ahead of their engineers on this one. I still have 12 days to make my decision as to whether it stays or goes, but, so far, it’s a keeper! If anything changes, I’ll post an update. In closing, if you’re on the fence about this one, I’d say go for it. At this price point it’s definitely worth it, especially since SONY has added HDR support to this model. Just save all of your packing material until the return window shuts. After all, the worst that could happen would be a return to BB for a full refund.

I bought this a little over a week ago and so far it looks and works great. Connection was easy to the WIFI and the Comcast and Sony remote work well. I compared this to a similar Samsung model and the Sony was in my eyes a little nicer and for less money as it was on sale at a good price. I had a minor issue trying to figure out the leg configuration as there are 2 options but that was due to my ineptness I believe! The sales associate at the store was super helpful as I called the store and he walked me through the issue. The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful in all aspects of this purchase.

First off i bought my 900c at Best Buy after going there originally to pick up a 810c The salesman mentioned this 900c for $100 more than a 810c and that it has more features like Wide color gamut, triluminous display, etc. I had not read any reviews on this model so i was leery but when looking at both the 810c and the 900c at Best Buy the 900c did have the better picture overall, both sets were right next to each other and showing the same exact content, Anyway got it home and set it up, picture is outstanding and everything works as it should. very, very good set for $999 NOW, here is where the review changes tone, I cannot believe what i have read about these TV's and SONY selling sets with excessive light bleeding issues(flashlighting) No respect a company that would allow that! I got very Lucky because on my set i have very minimal light bleed in the bottom right corner,so minimal it is not a issue even on a total dark scene. BUT i have seen many pictures of others sets and the flashlighting is ridiculous!!!! I am very disappointed at SONY for not fixing or discontinuing this issue! Off all the negative reviews online(here included) they all address this problem! I just have to hope my set never gets worse,if it stay as it is great but if it gets worse and i can no longer exchange the set or get it fixed this set will get 1 star, with a updated review but for now with as great as mine is right now, i give it 4-1/2 stars of 5. Ps,still cannot recommend to a friend or anyone else due to the large amount of sets that exhibit bad flashlighting.

I read many reviews before purchasing this sony. I actually got the 65 inch version. It's been absolutely astounding. Yes there is light bleed, but the pros outweigh the cons. The price is great, picture great, and the design is down right jaw dropping. It's so thin and beautiful to look at. Yes the light bleed is prominent but usually only on "loading screens" where the majority of the screen is black. During movies it's not noticible unless you get up next to the screen. If you're you're looking for a more affordable tv that's perfect in every way besides mild light bleed then this is for you!

World of difference between LG and Sony. This one is too good. The image/video is so real and feel like i am watching it real. I have to give 3/5 only for these two bad things: Limitations: - Horrible remote control. The older one was way better. - The keypad within it does not have an option to key everything in UPPERCASE. When I first enabled wifi, it took whole lot of time because if you have two continuous UPCASE letters as your passcode, you got to turn on the "up arrow" key after every key stroke. Ex: if you have TY as your passcode, you have to first enable "Up arrow" and then type letter "T" . It again toggles back to lowercase once you type a letter.

Picture quality is amazing! Color is unreal and black levels are excellent. I had to calibrate to achieve the desired picture. Didn't take long. Build quality is very good. TV comes with fixed wall mount that is super easy and the tilt up feature is very smart. I like the little remote!

I purchased this tv for $800. I read the reviews all over the net before purchasing this tv. There was reports of light bleeding on this tv, but it varied with the consumer. One review reported that light bleeding was a lot less or none on the stand mounts if they were placed in the middle rather than the outer position. I placed my stand mounts in the middle position and noticed I had some light bleeding but it was hardly noticeable. I can live with it where as you very seldom see it. I just hope it does not progress into something worse. This tv is very thin and you would think that it would be light but this tv is very heavy; too heavy for most women to do by themselves. It is recommended that two people assemble and mount it together. The features on this tv is phenomenal. There is stuff I'm still learning about it and what it can do. It has a great picture that comes alive and makes watching even the news enjoyable. This is my first Sony tv and I look forward to see how it performs and last which may determine whether I continue to stay with them. This tv does have very adequate sound levels to me. I haven't tried the 3D yet but will very soon. So far I am pleased and would purchase it again.

Upgraded from an old Samsung 50inch DLP and picture was amazing. 3D was easy to use and nice additional feature. There is a slight light bleed and bottom right as some others have mentioned, but you don't notice it and unless you stare and look for it during use. TV resolution is great and love the thin form factor. Speaker quality is subpar, I will need to get a soundboard in the future to increase audio quailty.

I like Sony and been their customer for many years, but now I have issues with this TV purchased last Saturday at Dadeland Mall Best Buy - Magnolia. It has a disturbing light bleeding at the bottom of the screen, worse at corners. I've written three times to Sony Social Support ([email protected]), included all the product information, and have not received any response. If I don't receive response from Sony in the next couple of days, I'll return this TV. Would appreciate Sony's comment ASAP. Thanks

Ready to move up to the Smart 4K Ultra HD TV level, I have been window shopping tvs for awhile. Just recently, I spoke with a very knowlegable associate at my local Best Buy about moving up to this Sony model. In about 20 mins. he had me convinced to this this one a try. It's a little bigger than my older Sony 46" LED flat screen model but what a huge breakthrough on picture quality and features. The Smart/Android capabilty allows us to forget our blue ray dvd player and connect directly to our Wi Fi signal; one less box to plug in. With our aging eyesight, I think this set is all we could want and view. I saw an OLED picture and it was too intense to seem real. I really like my new Sony Smart 4K Ultra HD 3D TV. We haven't even checked out the 3D yet. :-)

I saw a lot of reviews bashing it for the light bleed issue. I needed a new TV. So despite all the reviews, I felt the deal currently out there was too good to pass up. Mine works perfectly. Owning it now for 2 weeks. No issues. I realize after posting this everything is going to go wrong and light bleed! Seriously the more reviews I read the more I noted that the issue seemed to be fixed on the later production models. For reference mine was built in March 2016. I purchased it in May. Hopefully anyone else who buys it right now gets a steal of deal. ON TO THE GREAT: LIGHTNING FAST! Seriously ridiculously fast. There is no lag time. I had a previous Sony Bravia that had the SONY OS...it was so slow. Google apps run super fast. Still learning to use the touch/voice command remote. Honestly don't like it so much. Still a great buy.

I did read the reviews about the light bleed. The salesperson promised the problem was resolved. This is an edge lite TV so I do see a tad lighter image at the extreme edge. I wouldn't call that light bleed and I wouldn't have even noticed if I wasn't hunting for light bleed. The picture quality is stunning and the design of the TV is just as good. Look for light bleed in the attached photo

    Light bleeding issue still here

I was hesitant to get the TV because of the light bleeding issue reported in many reviews. However, I decided to give it a chance because some people have said the issue was fixed. Two days ago, I bought the TV and installed it last night. When I first looked at the picture, I thought everything was great. But as soon as the picture goes to letterbox viewing or when there are dark scenes, I saw the light bleeding issue at the bottom of the screen. It is especially prevalent I the lower right corner. At this point, I do not know what to do. It was a pain getting the TV from the store to my house. I really don't want to take it back, trade it in, and only find out that the replacement TV has the same issue.

This unit replaced a 10 year old Sony that was is still working well, All the reports I've read pointed to Samsung to be the most likely replacement. We looked at about 15 4K sets.. Samsung & LG mostly and decided on a Samsung 55ju6500. Checked for the best price, called my locale Best Buy to see if they had it and went to pick it up. However at the store it was displayed next to the Sony 900C. The Sony picture and sound were much better. So we now have a new Sony. Great set, very happy with it.
