    Horrible Light Bleed!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We bought this TV on 3/12/16, but had to return it the very next day because the light bleed was horrible on the bottom edge, right and left corners of the screen. No amount of adjusting the settings corrected it. As a result, we returned it and purchased the 55'' X850 C model instead. The Consumer Reports and user reviews were correct about the ultra thin model. I wish that I had listened the first time. Unfortunately, we let the Sony Rep talk us into the ultra thin model. He said that the Consumer Reports reviews and user reviews were based on "uneducated people." It turns out that they were correct and he was not. So far, we are much happier with the X850 C model. Consumer Reports ranks the X850C model higher than this model and for good reason. I would recommend following that advice.

I purchased this model yesterday. Installation was like a breeze, super easy. No bleed at all, I was surprised and happy. So I guess Sony has fixed the issues for the new batch of this model. Very happy with the purchase and quality of the television

I've had this 55" TV for a week. It's mounted above my fireplace. I have seen no light bleeding that some of the reviewers have talked about. I think light bleeding comes from 'operator error' when handling the TV. Due to the thin less, you need to be careful and not push into the screen when lifting and moving the TV around. The picture is amazing. This TV replaced my Sony Bravia XBR 40" that I have had for about 10 years and I still have it. I'm a little confused about the whole 4K thing. I have Comcast and I'm not sure if my DVR is 'uploading' the picture to 4K. I don't think it is, but the picture still is amazing. When 4K truly is available, I'll be ready.

After 3 TVs, I'm feeling pretty burned

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I first bought a Samsung UN55JS8500, this kept rebooting after 1 hour of being out of the box and I couldn't get it working even after contacting Samsung (they said it was a fault One Connect Box and were going to send me a new one in 14 days. Being that it was a few hours old, this wasn't going to happen). I got a Sony XBR55X850C to replace it to avoid the external Box issues of the Samsung. The picture was O.K. but nowhere near the picture quality of the Samsung (when it worked). I got the XBR55x900C and while the picture quality is some of the best i've ever seen, the corners of the display stay so HIGHLY lit I cannot watch anything without it washing out. Despite talking to sony and already having the backlight way down and adjusting auto brightness, etc, it did not fix and, once again, I'm left with a TV that I paid a hefty price for, and looks worse than a $300 Westinghouse. No one can seem to help me properly and apparently I have to hop in my car with a 55" TV for the 4th time this week, which is absolutely ridiculous, especially since no one has one in stock. Sony, I want THIS TV, But I want it to work properly. Best buy, This is awful that I have to disassemble a TV a 3rd Time and drive to you once again. I wish I could just get some proper service rather than telling me I have to come back yet again for something that is outside of my control.

Light bleeding issue - both times!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased the 55" model before Thanksgiving in spite of the mixed reviews around the light bleeding issue. Unfortunately, mine turned out like the ones reported here - light bleeding on the bottom left and right edges. I first called GeekSquad on the 800 number and they told me to call Sony as this was under warranty! I did not want to be given the run around for a setup that had not even been 24hrs. I went to the store instead, and they took care of the issue and ordered a replacement. A week later, the replacement arrived, and the Geek Squad technician luckily checked before mounting it on the wall - SAME ISSUE. What's shocking is that the SONY team is responding to these messages on these reviews, but have no answers to why they can't "RECALL" or swap out the models that are sitting in BestBuy's warehouses. DISAPPOINTED! Now, I am seriously considering swapping this out for something different.

    Still has light bleed issue

I picked up this TV after the Magnolia sales rep talked to me about how the light bleed issue was resolved and is much better than the x850c. When I set it up, it looked good at first, but later that night, I noticed the light bleed in all corners (more pronounced on the bottom corners). I tried to tolerate it for about 5 more days, but more and more it was bugging me and kept annoying me. I do have to say that the passive 3D technology was great, if you don’t mind the light bleed. In the end, I didn’t feel like settling with the light bleed and exchanged this model for the x850c and I am much happier with my decision. I would only recommend this to someone if they could care less about light bleed and was a TV novice.

Great 4k Image - Bad Bleeding

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Well, Like to start off by saying, never buy an electronic product without going on and reviewing your peer reviews. never let some best buy, or sony sales rep persuade you into a product that you do not fully know the specifics/issues that the product is experiencing. Bought the picture from my southside chicago store, and these guys really talked me away from the Samsung OLED's into the Bravia XBR900. Saw the picture at the store and was totally blown away by the imaging. Didn't care that it was thinner than my iphone, or that it was 3D as neither of these applied to my lists of "wants" in a TV. Got the tv home, and was really putting it to the test with all the 4k i could find/stream online. Started out great until finally my wife throws you standard BluRay disk (Dark Knight Rises) which is a very low-light film it. And immediately I jumped up from my TV wondering why there were these little clouds of white light in my lower Right Hand corner and up the right hand edge. Thought that this was something minor, so i turned down the Brightness and still, same issue. Immediately went to product reviews, and sure enough... This is a very, very common problem. So, now i'm working with trying to get someone out here to fix this $1,299.99 TV (which 30 days later went to $999.99 and BB said 'Sorry cant help you now, you're SOL on your price paid") and I'm really just trying to get my Samsung product back. Sadly, seems impossible. So, if anyone of you are in the midst of purchasing a TV, please read your peer reviews first and get an honest opinion, not one that is biased towards products most rewarding to his quarterly revenue quota. Goodluck all, will update if anything miraculous happens from a customer service POV.

    Great picture...

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

...but the little things tend to spoil the experience. I haven't had the light problems that others have complained about, but that's not to say the unit is "trouble free", here's my gripes--!) While this TV was touted as having great speakers, my wife and I quickly discovered this was a lie. Had to get an aux. speaker set-up. 2) A few times a week, the TV mysteriously goes to the "home" screen after being turned off. No big problem, but we prefer to just use the cable box's all in one remote. 3) the biggest gripe; once or twice a month, when I shut the TV off, the screen turns grey with lighter edges. At this point, it's locked up: the remote does nothing, the buttons on the side do nothing. It has to be unplugged, then plugged back in to allow it to reboot. As we try to keep the wires out of sight, this turns into a real pain, having to move a big cabinet with a big TV on it! 4) We also had one instance where the TV turned itself on in the middle of the night: lit up the whole downstairs! 5) I obviously should have waited to get this TV, as it's $1000 cheaper now! I would imagine that as most of these problems are intermittent, they will forever remain "bugs" I have to live with....

Best Buy Great This Sony Is Awful

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I don't often write bad reviews but my experience with this TV has been awful. As a former Q.C. statistician I realize: if you get a bad whatever, it can happen; when you get two in a row, red flags show up; when you get three in a row; there is a serious problem. Sony has a serious light bleed from the bottom edge and corners and should pull this product from the shelf. If they don't, BB should be proactive and stop selling the 55XBR900C. BB has been great about replacing them. Best Buy has really been great but after three failed attempts to get a decent one, I have opted to switch to the LG OLED 4K. The price just dropped to under $4K (pun intended) so, whilst still pricey at least I won't be dealing with light bleed. Sony has real Q.C. issues with this set.

I just bought this tv tonight. I've never seen a 55" in a home until now. The screen is incredibly thin, the HD is amazing and then I bought the 3D blu ray player with 4k Upscale, best investment I ever made. I hooked my tv up to my cable box and it was good but it fails in comparison to what the DVD player does. 3D movies are amazing on the 3D Blu ray player. Then, as an added bonus, you can watch YouTube videos, etc. on the tv. The salesman was excellent and knew exactly what I was looking for in my price range. I'm ready to cancel cable and live off of DVDs. Thanks Best Buy

I wanted to love this tv, I got it mainly for the amazing compliments given about the X1 chip but after buying the tv, thank goodness I got the warranty, both Sony 900c have NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONNCT TO MY WIFI, after calling AT&T i realized it wasn't my internet. I had to contact Sony directly only to tell admit to me that this is a internal issue, one that they have yet to contact me with for a solution. If I just look at the picture quality and sound I'd be happy, very impressed however I didn't pay as much money as this tv cost, which isn't cheap, to not be able to use ONE SINGLE APP! after reading about PlayStation now I went out and bought a controller before the tv came in, I have yet to be able to use any app before a wifi error occurs. if Sony doesn't contact me soon, I will be returning the tv and looking for a full refund, no matter how nice that picture maybe I did paid for the entire experience of a smart tv and all its features.

Very Happy, Great Picture, No Light Bleed

First, I'd like to say Best Buy staff are excellent! The ones I dealt with were very professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I purchased this TV at the end of April, 2016 when the price dropped to $1299. The original February, 2015 price was $2499 and it held there through August. The TV has been set up for two plus weeks and so far has performed perfectly. I am well aware of the light bleed issues reported by a large number of people since the summer of 2015. I also saw reviews since January of this year that reported no light bleed up through days before my purchase. I strongly believe the LCD panel can easily be twisted or torqued because it is so thin. When my TV was delivered and set up, the Best Buy delivery guys and I viewed 4K demo videos, TV channels, etc. and no light bleed at all. I mounted the TV on the wall the following day and after more than two weeks it shows no signs of light bleed. The Android operating system interface is one of the best available. And, the remote control is designed well. Very happy with this purchase all around.

Great picture quality. But I hated the back round lighting. It would dim and go back to normal every 15 minutes. We owned this tv for a month and a day, and guess what just happened? Out of nowhere comes vertical lines throughout the tv. We can't see any picture at all. We purchased a 5 year warranty plan and I called to see what we can do about that... bringing it in tomorrow to see what we could to to resolve the issue. I really hated the light dimming. Hopefully we can just return this and exchange it for Samsung. I thought Sony would be better but I was wrong.

Picture and overall color are wonderful, however, sources with high movement (I.e. Hockey, Football, even text tickers across the bottom of the screen were so jumpy (judder) so we returned the TV after a week. We tried each of the Tru-motion settings and weren't able to rectify. If your a sports/news fan please take a close look before you purchase. FYI. I ended up swapping for a LG 55EG9100 which is not 4K but is phenomenal for sports.
