Wonderful Upgrade from old tube tv

We have been waiting for the day our Sony tube TV died. It finally arrived, and we wanted our first flat screen. Wish we hadn't waited, the picture on this TV is amazing. My geek friends were very impressed with the 4K Ultra HD, it makes even our old movies look better. I love the larger screen and the thin lines. It's pleasing to look at even when it's not on.

Searched online and narrowed down my choices to about 4 Tv's that were available in-store at Best Buy (2 Samsung, 1 LG, and this Sony)...I am upgrading our 2012 Samsung 48"...Once in the store, the very helpful staff guided me to this TV....They stated that Sony was making a huge come-back in the TV market and that this TV is an amazing example....Glad I went with this one...Easy set-up right out of the box...Up and running in no time...Super picture and sounds great (I have it paired with a Sony soundbar and wireless sub)....Very thin TV and not heavy at all....Quick connection to my wifi and using Netflix is a breeze and super fast....DirecTv HD brings this bad boy to life...Very pleased thus far with this TV....Can't wait to have it installed above the fireplace.

First off, I recommend making sure you get the latest updates for it when you install it. That may make a world of difference with the negative reviews. After all, today's TVs rely heavily on software. I bought this to upgrade a 40 inch Sharp 1080p that I've had since 2011 in my living room. I was considering similar Samsung and LG models. The picture on this Sony had me sold. I have been watching for light bleed, the biggest complaint about Sony TVs with HDR, like a hawk and have seen none. The fact it also runs Android OS is awesome. My only complaint is the stand is a little low, which I need because the TV is in a corner, which limits which sound bars I can use. The Sony ones are too high and would impede remote use.

I recently got this tv wondered why it didn't look as good the display. The rep. told me that they were displaying 4k content and to upgrade Netflix to 4k content. Once I went home to do so the picture was absolutely brilliant. I left my settings on factory and it was still an awesome picture. GREAT TV for the money. I asked multiple best buy workers which is better the K series for Samsung or this one, and 4 out of 4 said Sony.

I was in the market for a new tv and I narrowed my choices down to this, a Samsung and a Vizio. What it came down to was just how well this tv handled motion blur and its ability to produce beautiful, natural colors. The Sony xbr55x850d touts a 120hz native refresh rate instead of an effective 120hz refresh rate. Most tv's I researched around this price were 60hz native with 120hz effective. Sure, it doesn't have the best black levels and contrast (still more than adequate however) but the IPS screen allows for great, wide viewing angles. This tv also supports the HDR10 standard which is a great thing to have for the future. I have seen some HDR 4k content and the wider color gamut really enhances your experience. I also have a vizio surround sound sound bar system and it seamlessly worked with it. Just remember to use the ARC HDMI port to connect your surround sound system. This allows any other peripheral (blu-ray player, game console, STB) connected to your tv to take advantage of surround sound without the need of having to plug each individual peripheral into the sound bar itself or into a reciever. Very easy to set up and the OS on this tv is pretty responsive. Not the most intuituve mind you but after spending time with the menus, I learned where i needed to go. Lastly, I loved the box the tv came in. It has 4 plastic clips at the bottom which allows for easy removal of the tv. Just unclip, pull the box up and its right there. No need to cut the bottom or sides of the box to free your new tv. Overall, I would definitely recommend this tv. Very solid product at a very solid price.

WOW, what a difference from the 850C vs 2016 850D

The new 2016 850D for the money is the WOW , we were limited to a 55” and after visiting the local Best Buy a couple of times we purchased along with the Sony 870 sound bar. On one of our visits to our Best Buy the Sony rep. was there and spent a lot of time explaining all the changes and improvement between the 850C and 850D. With our room setup, a lot of outside light and multiple viewing angles the 850D was the one. The only disappointment was the lack of good setup instructions.

Over the past 12 years I have invested both a lot of time in research and money on TV's for my home. I've had LG, Samsung, but this is my first Sony, and 4K unit. All I can say is wow!!! The setup was a breeze! After tweaking the settings to my liking I am blown away by this unit!!! First off I found it on sale at local Bet Buy store for $999.99! The processor and picture quality is unparalleled to anything else I've seen. Sure there were some units from both Samsung, and LG at the store that's picture quality was slightly better, but they wee also over double the price. Hands down if you are looking for a fantastic picture, and Smart tv in this unit can not be beat! Do yourself a favor and check this one out.. it will not disappoint!

I've never owned a smart TV, so I can't really compare this one to others, however, I've been very pleased with it so far. Downloading apps is simple and the picture is good. I don't have cable, but I've had no issues streaming football games or watching Netflix.

Everything you could want in a 4K tv. My wife and I were looking at 4K tv's and we could not stop staring at this one, the images are so realistic. Everything you watch is enhanced or upscaled, even DVDs and none HD channels. The stand is sleek and beautiful and the setup is very easy. Extremely happy with this purchase.

4k TV with HDR and IPS = best family room TV !!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I know some TVs are better quality, but most of them have bad angle view. This TV has great angle view and also has great picture quality (even support HDR). This is the best TV for people like me who watch TV from different angles in family room and also enjoy 4k contents. I connect this TV with my desktop PC as a monitor which supports 4K@60hz 4:4:4. 4k upscaling is great as well. There is some uniformity issue but still I give it 5 stars.

    An Overall Great Investment

I really don't understand why more people don't buy Sony... The picture is crystal clear, blacks look truly black, the colors don't have that unnatural bright look to them like some other TV companies, and it brightly illuminates a dark room. Viewing quality isn't jeopardized while watching at an angle which is what I love. The ease of the android menu is such a pleasure, and this TV comes with so many easy apps to use. The reason I give this TV 4 stars though is because of sound quality. The installed speakers are not the best, and you can't appreciate it in a large room, so if you get this tv its definitely best to invest in a sound bar, the 2.1 sony sound bar on sale for $199 right now is pretty good. all in all, If you are looking for great picture quality which I think is the most important factor when purchasing a TV I think sony is the way to go!

Love it, works great with the PS4

Love this TV. I do not know why the low reviews from some. Maybe I just have a different setup. I have the TV connected to the PS4 which runs everything for me, from streaming movies and shows to playing video games of course. The picture is amazing, and the colors are the same even watching from different angles. Not really a downside as its by design, but if using the PS4 and leaving Picture Adjustment on AUTO, default will always be GAMING. When watching a movie or anime, I do have to manually adjust this, but no biggie. Just make sure to switch back to GAMING when playing games as the response time is noticeable.

Got this TV during Black Friday for $899. I initially went to my local Bestbuy to purchase the XBR55X700D and after spending almost 30min to 1hr staring at that tv and the XBR55X850 (which were conveniently side-by-side) I just had to cough up the extra $200. This TV is absolutely amazing! My only issue is with the XBOX One S and the PS4 Pro. The tv doesn't play nice with the HDR settings on those devices as the tv's native HDR Video mode is just functions odd. For example, on the XBOX ONE S with HDR enabled, you get washed out type colors. With the HDR disabled on the XBOX ONE S and enabled on the tv (HDR Video) the colors looks absolutely amazing. I'm sure SONY will address this issue but other than that..great tv.

    android tv is buggy

After initial set up it took a couple restarts to get the remote to stay paired. Remote has been fine since. TV has frozen 3 times in 3 weeks. The voice search is not even close to as accurate as Samsung. You can not search within apps. You cant tell it commands like "lower the volume" or "go to input 3" or "open Hulu". The video games are pretty awesome with a dual shock 4 controller. Picture quality is good but there are dark parts that look like black blobs with no detail. I like that it comes with an ir repeater to control hidden compnents. The analog audio output can be controlled with the remote. This is great for connecting to powered speakers. Looks great as a PC monitor.

Cover me deeply impressed with the XBR-55X850D, which I operate with the HT-CT790 soundbar (if you care about good sound you need to go with an external subwoofer of a soundbar w/ subwoofer). 720p/1080i/1080p as well as 4K looks stunning even with factory settings (I didn't feel the need for color calibration at all). Overall nice (but not perfect) black levels (but for that price really nice). Also love the seamless Netflix integration as well as the many other Apps utilizing the Android OS. TV Program Guide via wireless access (for over-the-air programming) works well too. Definitely highly recommend this TV.

I was looking for a new TV because my last one broke on me and I primarily wanted it for Gaming, Movies and just general use, after a bit of research I was drawn to this tv because of its higher refresh rate (120), better colors (Triluminous) and just overall smart features (android). I have an Xbox one S and use that for my movies, gaming and the smart features for general streaming through netflix and youtube, and I couldn't be happier! I looked up some specs to calibrate it myself a bit and it does make a world of difference compared to the out of the box settings and I do highly recommend that; I haven't had any problems with my tv and I love it to this day.

Bought this several days ago VERY HAPPY WITH THE TV AND SET UP No problem with picture quality Stand is extremely sturdy and the tv has a slight tilt backward at the top I was surprised with this but it proves to be a great idea as the stand and the tilt make for a real secure platform Like the 4 hdmi ports and other inputs that are available Remote keys are very sensitive and almost flush with the surface of the remote but I don't see this as a major problem I had read that the speakers are not the best in relation to this the clarity of the sound and the speech are very good but the lack of volume could be a problem for a big or noisy room No problem connecting to my Verizon WiFi. Streaming of Netflix and Amazon prime movies worked Great Overall a great tv nothing negative
