Great tv for the time
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Saved up for this tv. Being my first 55”. Walked into Best Buy thinking I’d be getting a Samsung LED tv. Bit after chatting with a sales tech. Who highly recommended the Sony TVs for their refresh rate and better detail

Absolutely love this television!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am totally blown away by the picture quality on this TV (XBR-55X850D), even when it's in 1080 and not playing 4K. Extreme detail and when it's playing 4K movies it's almost as if it was 3-D. Very happy with my purchase. The only disappointment was that the manual did not come with the TV...I had to download it from the Sony site.

Last years chipset
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV and unfortunately returned. The Android OS and picture quality was phenomenal. The Operating system is hands down better than any smart TV on the market. You get full google play store and built in chromecast support. Voice search even smokes Apple TV/Fire TV. The possibilities are endless for a TV while still being super user friendly. Now for picture quality the colors absolutely pop like no other TV I have seen before. Only small complaint I would have about the picture quality is the blacks could be better in a dim lit room. What wasn't good is the fact that Sony decided to use last years chipset /processing so the X850D (and the X930D) is still very slow to navigate. I have an Nvidia Shield Android TV and the interface is so smooth the Sony Bravia Android TV felt like a downgrade. Also, I could not believe Sony shipped this TV on Android 5.1 when 6.0 is out and we are approaching 7.0 already this summer. I think this TV is still a great buy its just doesn't warrant the expense over last years model due to Sony using the same internals. I will see what they bring out next year and hopefully wont be disappointed by them using cheap processing and outdated OS.

Great, but with Questionable Bluetooth Option
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We went to Best Buy, determined to select the perfect Samsung, but were blown away by the obvious better quality of the Sony. As a professional photographer, I was quick to recognize the perfect color tones and flawless motion. We don't use cable, but upscaling is awesome, even when you're halfway into the next room. Sound isn't bad as it is. Here's the bad news: Our old Sony, though it had no Bluetooth, allowed for a Bluetooth transmitter/receiver plugged into "Audio Out" to give us the option of listening with or without our TWO headsets without plugging/unplugging the transmitter into the headset plug or changing the audio settings, while still allowing others in the room to hear normal sound. This new Sony has built in Bluetooth, but will NOT pair directly with year-old Sony wireless headsets?!?! So we pair our headsets with the use of a Bluetooth transmitter requiring it be plugged into where you would plug a wired headset and disallows others to hear the sound. Though I did not buy with this feature in mind, I find it to be very disappointing and baffling why Sony would do this.

Undecided
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TV picture is great. Upscaling is phenomenal. Android is so so. TV locks up constantly. Netflix opens to a black screen. Have audio sync issues with Sony blu ray player. The black in a dark room is pretty terrible. Of the constant locking up doesn't end and I continue to not be able to open netflix, I will have to return.

Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought the TV a week before it was released. Picked it up the day they showed up in the store. I was excited because of all the on-line hype. Got everything set up. TV cosmetically is stunning in person. But then you turn it on. The picture is not a quality clear picture. I just had previously took back a 6450 LG 4k(had for 3 weeks) to upgrade better refresh rate. I rented the same blue ray movie to compare pictures. The $700 LG 4k picture was much more detailed and clear. The Sony remote would lock up and not work at times. The motion rate on the Sony is good and TV interface was nice, picture is disappointing! I'm so glad I tried out the LG first to have something to compare it to. I took it back was going to get a 2016 LG model but, I ending up buying a Samsung JS8500 for $200 cheaper because they were clearing them out being last years 2015 model. Blows away the 2016 Sony.

Liked it but...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.great picture and easy set up. the remote will not change the channels on the tv so still have to use comcast remote. was on the phone with sony for 45 minutes and they couldn't tell me why. comcast couldn't either. the ir blaster that came with tv just wouldn't work. would have given it 5 stars if the remote worked.

2017 At the time "The BEST!" Now... idk.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At the time this was probably one of the best or top of the line TVs including for and with a PS4. The problems i had with this TV was wireless problems, Casting, remote not as durable. Perhaps if i had a Android phone or whatever i MAYBE wouldnt have had any problems. But besides that with gaming, movies and entertainment related activities. Everything looked amazing and beautiful "AT THE TIME" cause im sure there's better TVs now. But this TV was a big purchase for me and i worked long days and hours to buy it myself. Streaming also was pretty easy but now it kind of slow and sometimes loading, buffering and even youtube would be impossible to watch. But after basically resetting it, it worked again close your apps. Also! It does get hot so beware. Turn down brightness.

under rated picture
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. After much research I decided LG OLED was the way to go. But I compromised to save some cash and went with Sony's 930d . The 930 has a great picture & the colors "pop" due to the back light technology. But due to the 930 using real glass for the screen , not only made it heavy but seriously made the TV unwatchable from even a slight angle & the glare from any light being on really interferes with the TV. So the 930 got returned and I am so glad that I went with this model. The 840D is lighter because the screen is not glass and it offers a great picture. I was a little concerned about it not being back lit . It is edge lit . But with new technology this TV does indeed "pops" with the bright & color and great whites . With the screen not being glass it offers a lot less (to none) glare and great angle viewing . And I can't stand remotes that offer only smart remote use. Sony has stuck with a conventional remote which makes this TV a very user friendly TV. I gave it a 4 only because the light under the TV is a distraction and the base reflects the TV picture. I fixed this little issue with a piece of black tape for the light and for that base issue I simply cut a piece of black project paper to size and set it on the base. Other than the on light and shinny brush metal base issue , this is indeed a great TV .

Don't buy for the Apps!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV because I wanted a smart TV. Big mistake, smart TV's are still to new to the game and I have had quite a few problems. Only with the Apps though. TV picture is great. If you use Amazon Video a lot, you will likely have issues with a lot of buffering and intermittent video issues that require a reboot of the TV. TV worked great for 8 months and then Sony released their "marshmellow" update and that's when the issues started. I worked with Sony Customer Support and they just had me do factory resets over and over. I gave up and went to the Geek Squad. They were great and replaced the processor and that cleared up most of the problems but still have issues with Amazon video. I was told to just buy a streaming box like Apple TV of Amazon Firestick. Not really the answer I wanted but if I want to use Amazon Video, that's the only option. Final summary, Best Buy/Geek Squad were very helpful. Sony, not so much. Just buy a TV with a great picture and then buy Apple TV , Firestick or Roku.

The Sound is Terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The sound is terrible. I am sure the picture is great with all the colors, greys, and motion things, but I have a hard time hearing simple TV shows. I am sitting 7' away from the screen and whether I make it louder or softer I still cannot hear the dialogue. I have tried some of the adjustments and have the Voice Zoom at the Max. But this makes some shows really loud, so that Vol at 25 is loud but others at 45 are still hard to hear. It seems that 480p shows are louder than 1080p shows. I have tested the 3 Sound Modes, but they do not really help, they just manifest the problem in 3 different ways. I put books in back of the screen to push the sound out, but that did not help. Putting my head behind the screen was good. My hearing is good, but I am tired of moving the volume for each different show. On my Sharp, which is 7 years old, I kept the volume between 17-20, now I am all over the place, 25-45 or more. I called the BB sales person, but he was not much help, I guess he mostly deals with systems.

The best in class
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best TV in this class and price range. I also own Samsung and LG. The picture quality is just breathtaking. Android TV feature is an added bonus as well. Disregard the negative reviews (mainly from unverified purchase "customers") and give it a try.

Great TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Very easy to set up and super thin (which makes a huge difference) versus the competitors. Great picture and ridiculously inexpensive for the size/quality of this TV. Perfect for a Bedroom. Sony has the best picture. Well done.

Awesome Video
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We purchased this unit for our family room. I had the Geek Squad come and calibrate it and the picture is absolutely beautiful. It was great right out of the box, but to have it calibrated made all the difference in the world.

Excellent TV for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this TV for my dad and it's absolutely wonderful. I myself own a Sony 55 850B (2015 model) and the picture and build quality are out of this world. I was expecting the same from the 850D and I was not disappointed. The colors are so vivid and rich, while the blacks are very deep. The images are crisp and clear. The overall build quality is very good too. It feels sturdy and is EXTREMELY thin. Overall if you're looking for a new 4k in the 1000 - 1500 dollar range, this is the one to go with. This is the 2nd 4k Sony I've gotten in the last 2 years and I'll never buy a different brand again.

Best Budget 4K HDR
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you cannot drop $2500 for top end, this will please more than others comparable. With proper tuning, it is great in all modes. Do recommend the tuning, just find someone else's settings at the very least.
