I went to the store to get a new bigger TV, and absolutely was not going to get a 4K television. The salesperson convinced me that the picture was worth it (the extra money) even though there is not a lot of programming currently.
I had angst about the decision for a few days and decided to get a SONY 4K television. I was assured that the 4K television would emulate the 1080 picture my satellite provider delivered and that the “blur” that occurs some times when watching sports would be resolved.
The SONY television fulfills on both accounts. The picture is AWESOME. The picture almost seems 3D; the picture seems to come out of the television. The image of regular HD programs seems so much brighter and detailed.
I have watched a lot of sports especially since I got the television, no single instance of “blur”. The action and picture intensity of the color is amazing.
Using the smart TV applications, I looked on you tube for 4K videos. Unbelievable picture. Detail beyond description. Fantastic color.
I am very glad the salesperson encouraged me to get the 4K set. As a friend told me, I am future-ready TV wise.
I am very happy with my SONY 55” 4K and would highly recommend the television.

Finally a TV I can Like

This was my 3rd exchange, 3rd try is a charm? I originally got a Vizio 55 Inch M Series, I did not like the lag and Smart TV options (very limited) then i exchange it for a Samsung 55inch JS7000 i didn't like it either because of the 60mhz and light bleed from the bottom, so after everything i finally decided to get this TV. I've only had this TV for one day but i can already tell it handles sports well (samsung tv couldn't handle a lot of movement but had beautiful colors when working well). It's not as colorful/brightness as the samsung but some adjustments and it looks great! I haven't tried the smart tv apps yet.
I watched ESPN and i call tell the 120mhz from the 60Mhz the Samsung had. I changed the settings to sports mode on the Sony and it looks as great.
So far i am happy with the purchase and i don't think i'll be returning this tv. The dark's are great too!
I mostly use the TV for Xbox One gaming, Amazon Streaming, Sling TV, and as a separate screen for my Imac.

After less than two months of using this product, my tv turned off and didn't want to turn back on. I didn't have any power issue inside of my apartment. I brought tv back to the store and they send it to be repaired. Tv was shipped out of state without a original box. I'm really disappointed in costumer service of Best Buy and geek squad. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Before buying decided to go with a 4K samsung tv. Straight out of the box noticed some blue dimmed light areas on the screen. Went ahead and returned it and got another one. Just like the first time, straight out of the box a blue line towards the bottom of the screen. Turns out they were dead pixels and the shipment was damaged in transit to the Best Buy store. So decided to pick this TV up and honestly, glad I picked did! Not only are the colors better but it seems like an overall better product. 4K, Smart, what more does a consumer want! great purchase.

I went into the store expecting to buy a Samsung 6500 but the staff showed me this Sony and it looked way better for the same price. I went with the Sony. So far, I'm loving it. I've watched HD cable shows, Netflix, Hulu, and Youtube so far and everything looks great. Setup didn't take long - you just need to enter your Google email account information and log into the apps you plan on using such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, etc. Starting up the TV takes no time at all. Occasionally you need to run updates, which take about 30 minutes, but you can schedule them for a later time if you're watching something. There are plenty of adjustments you can make to the picture, sound, etc. The remote is fine, nothing to complain about. If you have an android phone, you will be familiar with Google Play and downloading apps. I haven't played around with the Android operating system too much nor downloaded a web browser since I just plan on using the TV for watching TV and movies. There were some hiccups with Best Buy's delivery and installation, but ultimately it worked out. I have only had the TV since 11/15, so if anything goes wrong, I'll update the review.

Stunning 4K Picture - Lots of Apps - Easy to use

Knowing that I would be purchasing a 4k Smart TV on Black Friday weekend, I started researching which TV to buy several weeks ago. The Sony X810C 55" quickly stood out from the pack with PQ and features not available in other brands at this price point. Frankly, you could spend twice as much and still not get a significantly better picture.
After three days with this TV, I am extremely happy with my choice. In lower resolutions (1080p to 480p),, the picture quality is superior to my native 1080 TVs. Of course, with built-in streaming apps such as Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, Youtube and many others, accessing 4K programming is a simple pick-and-click affair.
Q - is 4K worth the price?
A - DEFINITELY, ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY
It is that good!
When we fired up the first 4K program, my son and I sat there mesmerized. The PQ is simply stunning on the 810C. How many times have you heard an 18-yr-old repeatedly say "Wow!" while watching videos of forests, mountains & beaches? Yeah, me neither - until now!
I also hooked up my gaming PC via HDMI and the 810C handled everything we threw at it with no ghosting, fludder or flicker. This TV excels as a computer monitor and should be at the top of your list if you need that functionality.
While the 810C may not have as much picture adjustability as some of the higher priced models, there are more than enough tweaking options available to satisfy all but the most hard-core videophiles out there. My one complaint is on-screen typing using the standard remote is a bit cumbersome. However, this is easily solved using Sony's free Sideview App which turns your smart phone into a smart TV remote, enabling you to use voice command and other "Premium" remote functions.
In summation, the Sony X-810C 55" is an Excellent TV below $1k and a Great TV above $1K with plenty of features, Android OS and a PQ second to none. If you choose to go with the 810, I can promise you that you will never regret that choice. I surely haven't!

First off, great pricing and service from Best Buy. Purchased online and picked up in store the next day.
The TV itself... fantastic picture quality. If you're looking for an affordable 4K option, I think this is the way to go. Based upon my research prior to buying, there are certainly better options on the market if you are wanting to spend $2000+. But the combination of picture quality and price for this TV is great.
So far I've watched football (which looks great, so I imagine other sports will look great also) and streamed Netflix through the smart app. Both passed my eye test with flying colors. I will be hooking up a PS4 to it tonight, and based upon what I've heard, it is a great gaming TV.
I haven't gone too deep into setup of the apps on the TV, but Netflix and Hulu worked fine. No problems there.
The sound is just ok, but modern TV's don't have great built in sound anymore. If sound is a big thing for you, you'll need to get an auxiliary sound device.

Auto Update Bricked TV

I'm now a few years in and the TV did an auto-update and has bricked the TV. The hard reset doesn't work and Sony customer care doesn't care.
Was working perfectly until auto update so I recommend you turn that feature off once you get out of warranty.

The picture is great, setup was easy. The Android functionality is really cool. My other TV was smart but this one is smarter. It works seamlessly with my wireless keyboard.
I highly recommend that you apply the firmware update first, before you use it. The update fine tunes man things on the TV.

This is truly a fantastic TV. The level of control you have over everything is great. The picture is extremely vivid. The Motion blur controls are fantastic (and in case you are wondering this TV is true 120Hz) I am definitely satisfied with my purchase. In it's class and price range rtings has it as one of the top TVs out there as well.

Sony is still actively updating this television and it supposedly will get updated to android marshmallow later this year. Older reviews complaining about missing features are probably invalid with the latest firmware update. I love the Bravia sync functionality and the ability to control my PS4 with the TV remote. Your cellphone or tablet can even be used as a television remote and I find it nicer to use than the included remote. The picture quality is great, but just like some of the professional reviews online state the corners can be a little dark. The speakers are pretty weak, but that tends to be the norm with televisions these days. I could not get the TV to connect to a hidden WiFi network unfortunately so I had to broadcast the SSID. The only truly frustrating part of the TV was getting the Google cast to work. Be sure to update the Google Cast Receiver app through the Google Play Store as the firmware updates/auto updates will not do this for you. You can simply turn notifications off for apps that you do not wish to see in the recommended content or featured apps sections of the TV launcher as I imagine some people will find what boils down to built in ads on their television annoying. If you're getting the TV delivered make sure they don't cut the strap holding the power cord. It is actually detachable and adjustable and doubles as a cable tie for your video cables once the TV is setup. My delivery experience was god awful, but the television itself has been great and I enjoy it so far.

If not for the good deal Best Buy offered, I shouldn't have bought this product . It doesn't work with my "Rocketfish" headphones. I tried all connection combination, but the Audio is still on regular TV, instead of switching to the App Audio ( Netflix,Youtube etc.)

This is my third Sony TV and again I'm impressed. Setup was simple, the picture is great right out of the box. Synced up to my Sony sound bar with ease. Only concern is the stand seems a bit unstable, but it does seem hold the TV well. Definitely satisfied.

I finally upgraded from my Panasonic Plasma TV. This Sony was simple to set up. It is light and sleek. The android OS runs incredibly smoothly and after a few updates via WiFi, the TV was ready go. The smart Tv functions are user friendly. The google cast ability is a great convenience. Picture, color and clarity are impressive. For the price I am incredibly satisfied.

We finally upgraded our 1999 Projection to the Sony 810C. We love it! The picture is awesome, plenty of options to play with to fine tune the picture, and we haven't noticed any lag on movies. Setup was easy and the online navigation is simple. Speakers are about average for a flat screen.

I had the LG 55" 4K and I loved it. The picture may have been a fraction better than the Sony. After 5 days there was a lot of jitter. It started at day 3 and got worse over the next couple of days.
So I read the reviews here on the Sony and decided to spend the extra money.
When watching sports, this tv has 'Football' mode. Every time I put a game on I press the 'Football' button on the bottom right of the remote and it looks beautiful.
Its def worth buying. The picture is amazing and the options/features are good. YouTube app is great. You can pull up a video on the phone or tablet and tap the share button and it goes right to the TV. I have movies downloaded to my tablet and it connects right to the tv. I use a optical audio cable to the stereo and it works great.
The sound is not good at all but I always watch with the stereo on so that doesn't matter.

Great looking UHD TV, but...

I like this UHD TV. Has a really nice picture. Picked up an open-box buy.
Did the Android OS update right away, which took about 30 minutes.
It's not as thin as the other models, but that's because it's not edge lit.
I do see the color drop if you go off to the side, but for most normal viewing, should not be an issue.
BUT... this TV is not on Sony's list to be updated with HDMI 2.0a, or HDR. Maybe the screen is not capable of displaying the extra information, I don't know. But a bummer, so I'll probably return, as I would like to enjoy HDR, and the upcoming HDR 4k Blu-ray as well.

Good picture performance. Audio and Apps problems!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The picture performance on this set is very strong for the price. Sharpness, brightness uniformity, contrast, clear motion and colors are all great. The panel is great when viewed straight on but viewing angles are not very wide. It is a great set for Movies, Animation, Games & Sports.
The sound performance is not so great - but it's acceptable. From some videos I played there was good clarity and balance between the speech and other sounds. However when switching between different sources (e.g. netflix, amazon prime, local movies) I found that some would perform poorly. The audio would be quite thin and tinny. It was hard to distinguish the speech from background audio. Maybe this can be improved with tweaking the audio settings - but out of the box the performance was poor for some sources.
There are a wide range of applications included with this TV - and lots more can be downloaded from Play Store (Apps, Games, Music, Movies, TV etc.). It also has a lot of onboard storage space to download apps and games - very impressive. However, I found that some of the core apps don't work for me. 1) Chromecast doesn't seem to work. I can see the TV on my phone - but I can never connect and cast videos or music. 2) Google Play Music & Video just don't work at all. This is disappointing because I have a Play music subscription and some videos in my Play account.
Overall a great TV. 5 stars for the Picture. Minus one for the audio and minus one for the apps problems (which I hope can be fixed).
