    Internal Battery/Power Issue

I've had nothing but trouble with this TV. Right around 11 months after we purchased it, weird power failures started cropping up. Spoke with Best Buy and they said that the manufacturer's warranty ended at 12 months and it sounds like an internal power issue. I should've purchased their extended warranty so they could just replace the TV. $1800 TV at 1 year old needs a full replacement. That is where we are today... a disposable world. We keep the TV on all day, every day.

The picture looks great. Blacks are deep. Game performance is pretty good. The apps work alright though I am super annoyed that I have to sign into Google to download anything. I think I will create a Google account just for the family TV. My main source of comparison with the Sony 850 is the Vizio P series. The Vizio P series has 128 lighting zones that can turn off to give even deeper blacks. The Sony 850 doesn't have this and manages to look pretty darn good anyway. You can see this in store when the Sony 850 is near the Vizio P series or the more expensive Sony 900. For styling and features, the Sony 850 is a clear winner. The TV is thinner, lighter, has a smaller bezel, has a light sensor to control brightness, includes a Bluetooth remote, includes a TV tuner, and supports honest to goodness apps with an app store. Also, it doesn't freeze up once a day like the Vizio. The Android apps and reliance on Google are also the TVs achilles heel. None of it works with Apple Products and you need a Google account in addition to your Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, and myriad other accounts. I would rather the TV be a dumb terminal like TVs were 10 years ago. I'm sure in 10 years I won't be able to use these apps anyway and will hook up an Apple TV or Roku Box. I would love to change the Google Play button on the remote into an Amazon button. Hint, hint, Sony.

I am by no means a fan boy. My features that were important were HDR, upscaling, and the OS. Having multiple Sony products, and an older Bravia with a poor operating system interface, did turn me off to a Sony TV again. That said, I saw it on the floor as an option to the 2 other choices I had researched. My biggest issue of showrooms, is that there is no real world look at demonstrations. There is not a lot of 4k content, so the upscaling from HD better be great, or what's the point? So, I took a risk knowing I could return it. Easy set up replacing an older Bravia. Took some finagling of connecting. I literally just got this going, and I am floored by the picture quality. Again, my choice was an LG for features, but all of the features and more on this model are excellent. But it is the picture quality is spectacular.

I've had this tv for three years and during the 3 year period I may have watched 30 hours worth of tv due to the location(Bedroom). It no longer turns on and has a humming noise when it is plugged in. It went blank one evening while it was on. This will be my last purchase with Sony due to their poor customer service and junky tvs.

Set up was a breeze, and the picture is incredible. I purchased the tv on black friday, and it was delivered on Saturday, in time to watch a football game. The colors are insanely gorgeous, there is no blur for the motion, and the Android App is so easy to use. The remote, once you understand it, is simple to use as well. I would not hesitate to purchase this again if I wanted to replace another tv in the house. I have recommended this model to 3 friends who in the end purchased slightly smaller screens of the same model.

I started getting black horizontal lines on my screen after 2.5 years. I removed the back panel to clean and reinsert the ribbon connectors for the LCD screen to no avail. My first Sony XBR LCD is still performing well after more than 10 years, so this newer one is a big disappointment. I'll switch to LG or Samsung for my next TV.

    Great for the money

Our Samsung LNT52 died after 10 year (so much for 20!). Nothing in the Samsung range looked good enough for the money not to mention the failure mode of the Samsung was from a known issue that Samsung never did anything about. We were lucky, most LNT52s failed after a year or 2. Anyway, tried the Sony KD60X690E (60hz native refresh rate) and brought it back after a week. So so picture (kind of dark) AND the worst "judder" I have ever seen, mainly watching Netflix. It's an issue with film at 24 fps coming over a 60hz app. You could somewhat minimize it but then the Soap Opera effect was awful. The decision then came down to the Sony edge lit 65X850E or the back lit 65X900E ($500 difference). Both are Android TV based and both have 120hz native refresh rates which is what our 10 year old Samsung was. Side by side there is a very slight difference between the picture quality but certainly not enough to notice when only one is sitting in your living room. The 900 does have better options like localized dimming, and better brightness but in the end not worth the $500 difference. Te 850 got the nod. Set up on the 850 was easy although it took a while mainly because of the firmware / software updates and the plethora of display settings. In the end we are very pleased. Excellent picture for an edge lit design. The Android TV UI is typical cluttered mess with limited ability to clean up the bloat but you can use the Sony "Discover" and select the apps / channels you only want to see avoiding the Android "Home" interface altogether.

You can stop shopping, this is one great TV

I chose the 65 inch X850E after weeks of shopping around. Being a guy, I obsessed for a long time and quite honestly got tired of looking. Tired of looking at whole walls of TVs. Tired of trying to gauge what actually watching the TV is going to be like, when what they show you in the store is a satellite feed for the picture (or as one salesperson told me, a USB they get directly from the manufacturer for the display),and it is usually scenery, closeups of flowers or balls of paint, but nothing you would normally watch. Tired of being nudged by the sales people to go "just a little higher" on the model, because even though one TV says it's 120 Hz refresh rate, you know it is "native 60" on TVs in this price range, but if you'll go to this year's model for just $400.00 more you can get this, etc. etc etc. I've shopped for a lot of electronics for a lot of years and there's always one that's "just a little better for more money." So if I can help anyone who, like I was, is tired of looking around, let me just tell you: this TV is a good choice and will give you everything you want in a high-end TV for a very reasonable price. First and foremost, it's a Sony. Maybe I have some blind brand-loyalty, but I've always had good luck with Sony electronics. Shoot, I bought a Betamax in 1978 (Google it if you aren't familiar). Yeah, I'm old but have a lot of experience with Sony products and I have never been disappointed with a Sony. You should know this model, the X850E, is last year's model and you most likely are not going to be able to look at it in person at your store. You can see the X850F, which is this year's and more expensive. Trust a little - you can order this one from Best Buy and they'll deliver it for you in a few days. The picture is great, perfectly clear and bright. Netflix is built in. Chromecast is built in. Any app you use to stream content is going to be accessible and you can program the voice remote to play anything you want. Pay $11.99/month to up your Netflix subscription and watch 4K content - it got me to rewatch Season 1 of Breaking Bad - it looks great. There are YouTube videos that show you how to "calibrate" everything on the TV, and it's a good idea to do that - there's a couple of settings that are part of the default you'll want to turn off. But that is very easy to do. And yes it has native 120 refresh rate. And the price was lowered from just a few months ago down to $1,099.00. No need to spend the extra money to get a little more or get this year's model. I did the shopping and did the math and trust me, you will not be able to see a difference once you get the TV home. if you are a person who just watches TV rather than reviews every minute detail of it, you are going to be perfectly happy with this TV. Spend the extra $500.00 on something else. One last thing that sold me on this over the Samsung which I almost bought: this TV sits in a fairly bright room with overhead fixtures. If you watch at table level (rather than on the wall or over a mantle) any TV is going to give you glare from the overhead fixtures or lamps in the room. A salesman told me Sony tips its screen downward very slightly to reduce overhead glare. Once he told me that and I looked at other TVs while looking at the Sony, it did seem like the Sony had less screen glare. Also had something to do with the finish on the screen, but it does look less reflective. I hope that's true because I've convinced myself it is.

I bought this TV in November and I am more then impressed with all the features, the Remote, the quality of the picture and colors. I have never been disappointed by any Sony product. I just did not get a good Vibe with Samsung which I also looked at and read about. Once I reach the stage of getting it calibrated it will look even more astonishing. The speed of the TV is really fast in getting to the apps and so on

Very disappointed with Sony product. After spending $1,900 on our first brand new TV from best buy, it stop working after a year and having display issues. We bought Sony because of its name. I guess that was the mistake and Sony support is completely useless. Would not recommend this product.
