Its amazing when it works
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to love this tv but I can't even it crashes every day at random times. Spec wise, the tv is amazing. Has a nice crisp picture. 4k looks amazing. Colors are viberant. The only downside is the input lag which is around 60ms at 4k with hdr. Like I said above though this tv crashes... A lot. I have reinstalled and refreshed the is several times and made sure the latest patch is installed. Still it crashes almost daily. Even when doing the simipliest things like switch inputs. I love sony, but I can't recommend this tv at the price point its at.

Great TV for the Price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As my first foray into the 4k & HDR TV realm, I did a lot of research trying to find the best TV for a decent budget. It came down to Sony or Samsung. I had my eye on the 850E for a while and when it went on sale, I jumped at the chance to purchase. My impressions are as follows: Picture Quality - 4K / HDR is amazing! Even when displaying non 4K / HDR pictures it is impressive. The settings out of the box are adequate and with a bit of tweaking it is truly fantastic. Picture Quality: 5/5 Sound Quality - If you're going to spend the money on a TV like this, I would assume that you would have a sound system whether that be a sound bar or home theater setup. I purchased a Yamaha 483 receiver to use with JBL speakers and a Polk sub. Sound Quality: N/A Setup - Setup was quick and easy. No big surprises to get everything up and running. Setup: 5/5 Misc. - I'm 99% happy with this TV. The only gripe that I have is that the menus can be a bit sluggish at times. Not a huge gripe, but it is a tad annoying. Misc: 4.9 / 5 TL/DR Version: Are you looking for a great 4K TV with HDR? The Sony 850E is a great TV for the price. The picture is terrific and I would highly recommend this TV.

Great picture, everything else Flunks out!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am writing this review after about 15 months of watching and using my SONY XBR 65X900D. ... you see, the “D” tells you the model year ... in my opinion, NOBODY should write a review on a product such as a BIG (widescreen) TV until they have used it for at LEAST a year ... the television picture is absolutely SONY perfect .. as they almost always are. Beautiful, bright, 4K (if you have the bandwidth). SONY BEAUTIFUL!! But right there, the goodness of these Smart-TV’s end. SONY does not now, nor never has known how to build a computer. And since that is pretty much what a Smart-TV is ... they fail miserably in the “Smart TV product line. When the smart-tv APPS and other functions (such as simple WIFI connectivity) are out to use they sometimes just simply “crash” and don’t at all. That would be, in some cases the BEST possible resolution, otherwise you could spend, literally DAYS and WEEKS trying to either solve the problem or convince SONY techs that there IS a problem! Just to be able to display the time of day on screen IF you are using any APP Or for that matter any different input besides native TV Tuner, it take you less time and less headache to build your own watch from scratch !!!! The Smart-TV updates NEVER go in without problems the first time, and NEVER without multiple problems. And, then, if you DO need help get ready for chatting, because although they DO have a voice reply number available, it is almost impossible to get a live agent ... at least before Christmas next year! I think that SONY has gotten just a bit too “big for their own briches. SONY led the market in GREAT TV’s (remember when the first Trinitron came out?) for years. But in today’s market, although picture is still important, it is all about the Computer capability. I am very put off with this $3,000 television and if it were not for the 4K picture and the ability to export sound to a decent amplifier/receiver (internal speakers S U C K), It would be out of my house a long while ago. SONY ... a word of advice: Stop relying on your In-House CO mputer nerds who I’m sure keep telling you how brilliant they are, and go hire a decent IT design and production staff ... in fact, if you could hire them from Samsung, you might have a chance of saving your Television product line. Believe me, SAMSUNG is where you want to be today, with a new smart-tv purchase!

Lagging, Buggy, Frustrating remote control
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will start with the good first, the picture is excellent for the price and colors are very natural. I purchased my TV at the famous local store not on Amazon. 1. The engineers at Sony are way behind Samsung engineers who made their TV remotes work as "Point any where" remotes, i.e., no more pointing to those sensors. All new generation remotes are WiFi. Roku devices use the same concept for their remotes. The remote control was the most annoying piece of electronics that I have used for years. It is very picky about where you are pointing it. 2. The TV uses an Android operating system for streaming and apps but unfortunately the TV itself seems like it lacks the processing power, storage, and memory to run the Android system smoothly. Lot of lagging while streaming. Lots of lagging if you use the Bluetooth feature to connect to a soundbar. Samsung uses their own system which seems to be much more responsive and less clunky. The Android version on this TV is just full of bloatware that you may never use and it just slows down the whole experience. 3. The sound volume is only 20 Watts, unlike Samsung MU8000 which is 40W. I tried to add a Vizio soundbar to have a better sound quality and used Bluetooth to connect it to the TV. It connected with ease but using the Bluetooth, in my assessment, caused the lagging problem to become worse. Optical connection worked but you cannot control the volume using the TV remote, you have to use the soundbar remote, bummer. Ended up using RCA connection to the headphone on TV, bummer. Lagging and remote control were my main problem. If I had the time, I would have taken the TV off the wall and took it back to return. I have a Roku Ultra connected to this TV since I have it for several month now. Both the TV and Roku are using wired connection. I have a 100 mbps cable Internet connection and Roku seems to be much more responsive when streaming Amazon or Netflix. There are many times when the TV streaming cuts off for no know reason. I will actually add/update this review in the future. It is been less than 30 days since I bought the TV. Sony Engineers: Come up with a "Point anywhere remote control for your TVs". Upgrade that Android software to a more functional version with less bloatware.

Very pleased with this tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had allot of tv’s and this one by far take the cake for the quality and price. Most of there TVs look good but you don’t really know till you get it home and see for yourself. I bought one before which look good at the store but turned out not so good at home. I’m very pleased with tv. I like that this tv is 120hz rather than 60hz.

Brilliant Picture - Happy so far
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I decided to splurge and go for a Sony, though one or two steps down from the top of the line with the 850E model. For me, that was an excellent decision for the money saved as this model has a brilliant picture and I doubt I could tell the difference with the others unless they were side-by-side. The remote is relatively intuitive though it would be nice if it had a backlight. Some apps can be a little slow to load but, overall, I am pretty pleased with the Android interface. It was an expensive purchase but it's one I expect to benefit from for years to come.

Nice TV with great Features- Alexa Compatibility
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this TV, especially the fact that it runs the Android system and allows me to turn the TV on or off, adjust the volume and change channels using my Alexa Echo device. Lots of good Smart applications and the picture quality is very good. The picture has a more natural look. Only drawback is that in order to connect my older Panasonic surround sound system to the TV via the audio out jack, it uses the same jack as the headphones. When you turn off the surround sound system, you cannot get sound from the TV speakers because the TV thinks there are headphones connected. Thus you must unplug your surround sound system from this jack in order to get sound from the TV speaker. I thought I had a defective TV and returned it to the store. Another reason I returned it was because the TV speaker would also give off a popping noise when the TV switches from the external-surround sound system to the TV speakers or vice versa. The popping noise from the TV speakers also occurred sometimes when you change channels on my DIRECTV box. When I got the replacement TV and figured out the situation with the audio out/headphones jack (which is not an issue if you have more up to date external speakers like a sound bar), I was very pleased with the TV. So far, after one day of use, it seems that the new TV does not have a problem with the TV speakers giving off a popping noise. This is my first experience with a Sony TV but, overall, I am extremely happy with my new TV. I am especially happy with the customer service support I received from Best Buy in returning my original TV for another Sony TV.

Great Gaming TV
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was having a hard time debating between getting this and x900e 65", but have no regrets going with this model. I did get a chance to see the 2 in the store side-side and honestly couldn't tell a difference. Black levels are great and gaming is a real pleasure. I was worried the Nintendo Switch looking blurry but the upscaler chip in this TV is no joke. Perfect motion, no noticeable input lag, and Zelda BOTW just came to life on this TV. The built-in Android Smart TV was seamless and very reliable. The apps support full 4K steaming. I use it to watch Netflix 4K with no issues. The wifi card in this TV is pretty decent. I have this TV in a rather spotty Wifi area of my home and it had no issues connecting to my network. Out-of-the-box calibration already looks good and a lot of the settings do a good job of auto-detecting the video source to accomodate the optimal video settings. This thing may not be OLED but it'll be good enough at the awesome price it's at.

Lasted for 6.5 years
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this TV in 2017, everything worked well with no sign of issues. Now in April 2024 out of nowhere display stopped working and only audio works. Not willing to spend $400-$500 to fix the issue, will need to look for new TV.

TV is amazing

Great so far.. worried about durability
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this as an open box items so it was a great deal. I have been very impressed with the picture quality and overall usability. I am worried long term as I have noticed the following issues: I tried using Chromecast to stream directtv now from my phone to the tv. I tried loading on the tv but never did. It went to a blank screen. Then after that when I tried playing anything in Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Video there was no video just audio. I fixed it by holding down the power button on remote to completely turn it off then turned it back on. Second issue is I paused Netflix then literally 3 seconds later unpaused it and the audio no longer was working. Had to go back and then resume episode to get it to work again. Not sure if these issues are Sony related or 4K related or what as I only had non 4K LGs previously without any issue. I have had this T.V. for about a week and already experienced two issues which makes me slightly concerned as I would not expect to have any issues on a T.V. this expensive. I will update my review if any more issues appear.

Great buy if I could solve no signal issue
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love this tv! Great pic! Easy set up. However, I asked salesman If it would work with my current receiver setup. Was assured it would. However, i get “ no signal check input” every time I turn unit on. Set up as follows : Dish Sat receiver (722v) connected via HDMI to Onkyo receiver ( HT-R2295) then HDMI to tv. I can only get a signal after a hard reboot of Dish sat receiver every time I turn unit on. Or connect dish straight to tv ( which defeats the purpose of having surround home theater ). I’ve replaced Dish receiver, changed HDMI cables. Tried different inputs on both onkyo and tv. I’ve reached out to Sony, Dish and Onkyo and Best Buy. I’ve been told everything from it’s a handshake issue between components to Onkyo is not compatible, to I’ve never heard oh this ??? etc. Love the TV but very upset over the lack of resolution to this problem
