If I could give it a Zero, I would.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased XBR-65850D in August 2016. Backlight has failed only 16 months later. I did not buy an extended warranty - after all, it was a Sony. Contacted Sony Customer Service & Relations.. Their response boiled down to "sorry for any inconvenience, but you're past the 365 day warranty, so we are unable to help you with the repair". Basically, a $1,000 repair is needed to my under 1 1/2 year old tv that cost me $1,800. I am very disappointed that Sony is not a company that will stand behind it's products. My biggest regret is that I had recently recommended the Sony Bravia tv product line to my son-in-law, who has now purchased one (75"). I hope he has better luck with his than I did.

Warning regarding Sony customer service
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This WAS a great TV. I was stupid to not get the BB protection program. Sony sends out a software update and the TV needs to be hard reset every morning. 1.5 months into it when I can verify that the FIOS signal strength is adequate and it is determined by level 2 tech support that the HDMI handshake is not communicating. Sony tech comes 2 months later (after many diagnostic time sucking phone calls) out with a new motherboard (dismounting the TV at my expense). Set up software update fries the power supply. 5 hours of a Sony tech on the phone and my TV on my couch and I end up worse that when I started. Have tech support transfer me to NCR (customer service) and after many dropped calls I get through to someone who is so much like a robot it became comical. If I said X she would say Y. If I told her we were bombing Tokyo she would apologize and go right back to her script. There is no way to speak with a decision maker to solve the problem. They have no idea that they are one software upgrade away from being replaced by a computer. Have to send out parts and 2 in person service calls before they will talk about a replacement. Great picture. But direct software updates can ruin your day. Please make sure that you spend the money on a protection plan. Sony is NOT customer centric. Your problem is only considered by their economic benefit. They already got your money.

pretty good tv
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.first I bought the 950 series and I did not like the side white light bleed in the corners of the TV. so I returned and bought the 850 although there is a big difference in color I am still very satisfied with the TV. but honestly don't waste the money yet on a 4k TV until everything is in 4k. Best thing about this TV is that it has kodi built right in. this is my 2nd Sony and hey cant go wrong with Sony TV and entertainment products even bought the surround sound to go with it

Poor buy
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off this was an impulse buy, something I seldom do. It is buy far the worst purchase I've every made! This is the first Sony tv I have ever owned and it will be the last. If you are looking for an expensive paperweight this tv is for you. The tv has probably the best picture I have seen, but that's only when the tv decides to turn on, or stay on, or detect my cable box. Oh you want to use the built in apps, ha good luck this tv crashes more than windows vista. Also lets not forget the 25-30 second delay between the remote and tv, that aggravates me beyond all reasonable sense, you know the best part I've had this tv less than 4 months. Nothing but problems since the 3rd-4th week after I bought it. What a waste of 1300 dollars. I hate this tv, yes I hate it, I hate it, I hate it. I wish I could return it, or Sony would buy it back. I should have looked up the reviews on this tv before I shelled out so much money on this garbage. I would highly recommend you save your hard earned money for a different brand.

Glitching, Lagging, Garbage
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Glitches, lags, and have never been able to get a clear picture out of this tv, regardless of how much money was spent on ultra fast HD HDMI cables, streaming devices, nor fast internet. It’s a joke that Sony put an inferior Ethernet receptacle, resulting in a 500+MBPS hardwired connection receiving less than 24 MBPS, so instead we bog down our bandwidth, Sony TV still only pulls 170-250 MBPS AND STILL GLITCHES worse than a dial up connection. Grotesque wast of money and will never buy another Sony product,

System On A Chip failure at 35 months
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Tried to call Sony at number on owners manual. There's no one there. They refer you to a website of basic questions and answers. I had done all the rebooting and learned it was all for nothing because a Sony repair tech determined a new SoC is needed. After that you have to update the firmware and hope it all comes together. The SoC replacement is $600. Based on the reviews showing something else is about due to fail it seems risky to invest more money in this set. The crazy thing is that Consumer Reports rates 4K Sony tv as very reliable. I'll be reporting this one to them and suggest that others begin doing so.

Beware of the TV stand/ Leaning backwards
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, the TV is amazing. The major negative is that the TV stand, once connected to the TV barely supports the TV, therefore, the TV at the highest point leans backward approx. 2.5 inches. From a viewing standpoint, it almost skews your screen view and is very noticeable. A call to Sony support including pictures and they state this is as 'designed'. I personally find this to be a major design flaw. If you look at the Sony forums there are many complaints regarding this. Only fix is to wall mount this which I sadly had to do even though I have a TV stand. You'd think design and quality would be paramount checklist product variables for Sony but given this flaw, it is definitely not the case. PS. I added cardboard pieces under the back legs of the TV stand to level out the TV, it's sad.

Wish I bought a samsung
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture quality is good but when you shut the TV off its a takes a minute to connect to the internet my other TVs are connected instantly. The home screen with the apps is glitchy and the apps won't open like hulu or netflix sometimes and i have to shut the tv off and unplug it and its fixes the problem. I've never had a TV like this I wish I took it back now its to late. I only wrote this review to save someone else the hassle

I had to return it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I set the tv the same setting as the have no the floor. The qualify just did not match, the display looked a lot better. May be its a defective tv, but the images looks dull, not sharp, there are some jutter and artifacts with motion flow, and image seems dim. Also, the VUDU application is not in 4K; therefore the movies I owned in 4K did not stream in 4K. That was very disappointing.

I would rather watch my old Samsung Plasma
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This TV is unwatchable in 4K. The night scenes look washed out and less darker scenes too. I bought A sony 4K DVD and it does the same thing. I tried all the recommended settings and it still looks awful. The geek squad guy said all 4k are like that. he said the newer Oled is better but cost a lot more so I guess I am stuck with A 4K that is unwatchable. What A waste of money.
