Disappointing

Owned for 2 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Short version: If you find this tv on closeout and only have basic needs like attaching a cable box or streaming device (and NOT a sound system), then maybe. The picture quality is fine. Otherwise, I’d pass. Long version: This has been by far my worst TV purchase. First, the sound comes out of the bottom, but we planned to attach it to our existing (Sony) system, so it wasn’t a concern. That was until connecting a sound system became a NIGHTMARE. After turning everything on, we’d get about 1 second of sound, then nothing. Tried countless settings options and no luck. We would have to disconnect and reconnect the cable to get sound back. So, we bought a new soundbar system. Sound output is still a crap shoot. We tried different cables, connections, settings, everything. We had the tv delivered and it’s too big to fit in the car, so we feel stuck with this thing. Other minor irritant – the tv remote can be enabled to control your cable box. But, if you do, an unnecessary on-screen menu appears whenever you turn on the tv or switch to the cable input. And, our universal remote can’t seem to be programmed to power this tv on/off.

While we are glad you like the picture quality of the X85K TV, we're sorry to hear some issues that you are having with the remote and audio device connected to the TV. This is definitely not the experience we want you to with our products. Allow us to help troubleshoot and resolve these problems. May we know the connection of your devices to the TV? May we also know the unnecessary on- screen menu that appears when using the TV supplied remote to control your cable box? If you are referring to the Home screen when you turn on the TV, this is because the Power on behavior settings is set to Home screen. You can change the TV startup behavior to Last input if you prefer your TV to power on with the last watched TV channel or external input instead. While the name brand is known for great sound quality its video quality is lacking for the price. The lack of the microphone and its ability to respond like Alexa is disappointing. Last I will definitely buy a cheaper priced Alexa capable tv in the future.

Picture quality great ... Sound, not so much.

The picture quality is amazing and it's easily viewed from any angle. The only real complaint that I have is with the sound. The speakers leave a LOT to be desired. I ended going back to Best Buy a few days later to purchase a sound bar/sub to make the sound make the picture.

We bought this TV to increase the size of the screen because we had a 55 inch tv. We looked for a TV with more or less the same tech that our old one had. High definition, LED etc, etc. It is a great device. Everything looks greater, larger and much much better. We totally recommend it!

Sony is the best!

They don't oversaturate colors, have a clean interface and the remote is easy to navigate. I have tested other brands which may be cheaper but they don't have the longevity and quality that Sony has. I highly recommend!

True Sony quality and performance

Great sound and of course amazing Sony picture quality. We had a 55” version in our living room it is now in our bedroom with the 65” in the living room as its replacement.

Occasionally when turning tv on the sound button on the remote does not work. TV was advertised as Apple Air Play compatible. Set up suggests it is Air Play compatible, but it will not connect. Disappointing fact, but not worth returning TV over. I use a Bose sound bar so I can’t rate TV sound

However, from the very beginning of opening the box to installing on the wall to setup, this TV has impressed me. I own a X90J to compare against and this TV in my opinion is better. On paper the X90J is better, with different processor and local dimming. The X85K in my use case and watching environment has much better color control, has an overall cleaner panel, has 0 blooming and just plain looks Amazing! Also, Sony packages their TV’s far superior to the competition. Quality control appears to be top notch and the TV looks great. I am very grateful to have found this TV when I did as it appears to be unavailable now. Best Buy’s delivery time was exceptional as well.
