Operates as advertised. Only quirks are that the receiver turns off after a certain amount of time if we pause programming on our Amazon FireTV.

Less power than my last Sony ES unit. Other than that the tuning microphone is a nice addition.

This review is for the Sony STR-DN1050. I have had this for about 4 months now and I must say I am really enjoying this receiver. I stepped up from a Yamaha HTR-6130 which I had for 6 years. This receiver has 6 HDMI inputs (1 in front (HDMI/MHL)) and 3 HDMI outputs. It is Bluetooth capable and also is capable of Airplay streaming. It can connect to the internet via wireless or Ethernet. One of the HDMI outputs is HDMI/ARC so basically you can connect your HDTV to the receiver via this output and still get sound from the TV going to the receiver (without having to connect the sound from the tv to the receiver via another wire e.g. optical cable). This receiver also comes with two optical inputs. If you are one of those that uses multiple devices at the same time e.g video via one device and audio via another, this is a welcome option. My setup is a 5.1 surround sound setup (5 speakers and 1 subwoofer). There is an easy setup program that helps you determine listening positions and speaker placement. It only takes a few minutes to complete. You can also setup your speakers manually and test each speaker via the receiver. I have an HD cable box, Xbox one, PS4, PS3, and Apple TV. These devices all go into 5 HDMI inputs. There are also inputs for AV cables and component cables (so you can connect a PS2 or camcorder etc). The TV connects via an HDMI/ARC to HDMI/ARC output on the receiver (just plug in any working HDMI cord in your TVs HDMI/ARC and connect it to that of the receiver). As I mentioned earlier, this allows all video to go to the TV but in addition, I can connect another device to the TV or watch a smart app on the TV and still get surround sound on the receiver with the HDMI cable. What I have found most appealing about this receiver is the Graphical User Interface. It is quite intuitive and makes it easy to access options. Hitting the “HOME” key on the remote brings up the interface. There are five columns that show up- Watch, Listen, Custom Preset, Sound Effects and Settings. With Watch, you can select which device you want to watch (and listen to), with Listen, you can select which device you would rather listen to whilst watching any other thing. Custom Presets allow you to chose from multiple preset configurations to go with certain inputs. Sound Effects let you chose different sound effects/surround sound technologies for the input you have chosen and Settings lets you adjust many options on the receiver, e.g. easy setup, speaker settings, network settings etc. If you have a Sony Bravia TV, this device syncs with it via HDMI and can be controlled by the TV remote control. Turning on/off the TV turns on this receiver. Through the GUI, you can label your devices in the settings menu and customize other options that would help your home theatre experience. I highly recommend this Sony STR-DN1050.

Receiver worked great initially, then stopped working after only 4 months. Unable to get any resolution with Sony so far. Wish I had just thrown my money out the window for what I received.

When I bought this, I paid $550 expecting it to last a while. Our last Onkyo lasted over 12 years. This Sony quit working at 15 months, sound only, would not work with our TV, blue ray, Roku, nothing. I had to unhook everything from the receiver and bypass it to be able to watch TV. Finally called GeekSquad who came out today. They verified that the audio card was probably out and that it wouldn't be worth putting the money in to fix it. Geez, you expect with a Sony product that it would last longer than that. I give up. My last Sony TV, the TV wasn't able to work with the remote after about 15 months. The TV was defective, not the remote. I was always a huge Sony fan; but as much as I pay for their products, I am done with paying that much for having them such a short period of time and them quit working always right after warranty ends.
