unless if you're a pro nature photographer or working for fashion magazines (or some other niche case), this is the best camera you can get for the price. don't gaslight yourself to spend extra thousands for 60mp or 120fps!!

A Versatile Workhorse for Amateur Photographers

The Sony A7 IV stands out as one of the most capable all‑around mirrorless cameras I’ve owned. While it isn’t the fastest or highest‑resolution model available, its blend of image quality, autofocus performance, video features, and overall handling makes it a true hybrid workhorse. As an amateur photographer and hobbyist, it feels like the only camera I really need.

This camera has been one of my best purchases to date! Lightweight, amazing quality, easy to use/learn & customize. Best of all is the battery life - does laps around other brands! Highly recommend! Been using it for over a year now for weddings & engagements and I can’t picture going back to any other brand I’ve used

As a beginner stepping into the world of photography, the Sony A7 IV has been an exciting and sometimes overwhelming experience—but mostly in a good way. This camera is packed with features that, while advanced, still feel accessible once you start getting used to it. The image quality is incredible. Even with just the basic kit lens, my photos look sharp, colorful, and professional. The autofocus system is one of the standout features for me. It tracks eyes and faces automatically, which makes taking portraits or action shots much easier—I don’t have to worry about focusing manually or missing the moment. The camera has a lot of buttons and settings, which can seem intimidating at first. But once I spent some time watching tutorials and experimenting, I started to understand how much creative control it gives. The menu system is improved from older models, but still a bit confusing at times. Fortunately, there are customizable buttons, so I could set it up in a way that made sense for me. I’ve also started experimenting with video, and the 4K quality is stunning. The flip-out screen makes it super easy to record myself or get creative angles, which is great for vlogging. Overall, the Sony A7 IV might be a bit pricey and advanced for some beginners, but if you're serious about learning and want something you can grow into, it’s an amazing investment. It’s helped me improve quickly and made photography more fun and rewarding.

Must read AI, and 7K sensor explained

Absolutely stunning imagery, this mirrorless camera is the best I’ve try amongst multiple brands. The AI autofocus nails it every single time, nothing important out of focus. The LOG and other picture profiles for videos are incredibly amazing and a lot of room for color grading. But if you don’t want to color grade or don’t know there are profiles that look amazing right off the camera. Battery life is good, and something not many explain around; this camera has a 7K sensor , so your 4K video is what we videographers call “oversampled 4K” is like an ultra quality 4K

Fantastic camera. The sale that I got it on made it even better, but sale or no sale, this camera is a beaut. Feels great in your hands (I’m 6’6” and have large hands), the image quality is terrific, clean, sleek feel and look, and just a sturdy product. Cant recommend this enough for anyone wanting to step up their camera gear game. The Sony lens ecosystem is also vast, so there will be absolutely no trouble finding decent glass without breaking the bank.

Sony Alpha 7 IV - an advanced full-frame camera

I purchased the Alpha 7IV since it can be updated to do focus stacking (focus bracketing in Sony language). (The camera comes with Version 2 of the software, when you get it immediately update to Version 6. I have a Sony alpha 6100 and an earlier version of this camera, a Sony alpha 7 II. The alpha 7 II is a great camera but the 7 IV has a somewhat higher resolution at 30 Mpixels. I do a lot of macro photography and doing it by hand is a real pain. I have found in the few weeks I have owned this camera that its automated process is outstanding. There are other updates from the 7 II that I was not interested in like cell phone tethering so that you have a larger image to examine, and even in-app operation of the camera. I have loved my 7 II but the 7 IV has many solid updates so it has become my go-to camera.

Overall, the camera is solid. I previously had an a7iii, from which this is a huge step up. The unit I received had 3 dead LCD pixels (stuck green), which is unfortunate for SONY quality control, but not best buy's fault. 33mp photos look great, and you have great video codecs of 4k60 XAVC S-I, but for video the sensor readout speed is pretty atrocious (nearly 30ms), so any handheld or whipping will look sloppy and jello-like. The sensitivity is also not great, especially if you are shooting in LOG and need to overexpose. The EVF is nice, locking mode switch, top dial, and flip screen are all great. *FD: I returned this unit because of the defect, and best buy handled that properly, so I gave 4 stars.*

This is my first Sony mirrorless camera. I've been a professional photographer for decades, now retired. This is the best camera I've ever used. And I've used a bunch of professional cameras over the years. The body is solid, fast, and the menu system is remarkably capable. All of the customization of the buttons is truly mind-blowing. The accuracy of the autofocus is better than anything I've ever used. The image quality is the best as well. I could not recommend this camera more highly for those of use who don't need 30 frames per second. The one weakness of this camera is that the maximum frame rater with the mechanical shutter is 10 fps. And if you use the electronic shutter, you do not want to shoot sports. I'm just fine with the speed. Otherwise, this is a camera that for the current price ($500 off, it's successor is due out before the end of the year) it's an outstanding value.

I’ve been using the Sony A7 IV for professional photo and video work, and honestly it’s one of the best hybrid cameras I’ve ever owned. The image quality is super sharp, colors look great, and the autofocus is insanely fast and reliable — especially for people, movement, and low light situations.

This is pretty much about it's video capabilities. I mainly bought this camera for video but wanted to have a good camera for photos as well. Coming from a GH5s the Sony A7 IV is pretty amazing. Better video quality, excellent autofocus and man that shallow depth of field is pretty special with my f2.8 16-35mm lens. No focus breathing is pretty special too. Low light is really exceptional even when I tested it against an A7S III that I almost bought. The color is really good and I like how the colors seem more true to what you are filming in a rec709 setting vs my GH5s, the GH5 and GH5 II I tested against it. I like it much better in comparison to the A7S III too. I love the file size of 4K 24p too at 100mbps vs. 150mbps with Panasonic as well. This will save a lot of space on my computer. On top of this there are soo many cool lens options. But then there are all these frustrating things I have to deal with when using this camera. 1. If you film with 2 SD cards recording simultaneously it overheats in about 40 min in a 70 degree room. Even when the overheat setting is set to high. I had to switch to 1 card recording and lost my redundancy. At least it won't overheat now. I would be more than fine to see a little larger build so it would regulate heat better. 2. You can't use an external monitor and the on camera monitor unless you turn off the settings display on the external monitor. This means you can't see record, mic output etc. I had to get a cheap monitor with an HDMI out to get 2 screens to display the settings so I can change settings on the cam and also know what's happening when I film myself. 3. In the saved settings I can't just go in and set the white balance. I have to go into M or P or A to set the white balance and save it. This is far from ideal. Not being able to record simultaneously with 2 SD cards is almost a deal breaker for me but man the video quality and autofocus is sooooo good its hard to part with it.
