Mind-blowing image quality especially in the dark

The hidden "dual gain ISO" clears the noise around ISO 12800. The newly added S-Cinetone in firmware version 2.0 brings fantastic color science to an alpha body.

Good camera, bad situation

So I’m stuck with an inoperable camera due to not being able to afford sending it off to Sony for service.

An astrophotographer's dream
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently used this camera for a low-light film project and cannot put into words how incredible it is, but I’ll try: the new flip out screen is beyond welcome; the updated location of the recording button is honestly one of the best additions; and, of course, its impeccable ability to capture the night sky is second to none. As a member of the Sony Alpha Imaging Collective, I’ve been fortunate enough to test quite a bit of awesome gear, but this camera feels like it’s in a league of its own. It has all of the same fantastic features seen in previous Sony mirrorless cameras, but the updates in the a7S III are so huge that it made me feel a little blue every time I had to grab an a7 III instead of this camera while filming the project. Even with the ISO cranked up to 102,400 (its highest native ISO), footage still looks spectacular. It feels very lightweight in hand, and I appreciate the new menu. It seemed overwhelming at first, but the larger focus on colors really leaves a lasting impression; I now know where each of my most-changed items are instinctively by color, which makes similar items so much easier to find in comparison to Sony's previous menu. Being able to record RAW is massive, especially when filming hard to capture night sky phenomena such as aurora borealis. My dream of becoming a superhero basically came true—this camera comes with night vision. I am still in disbelief that I was able to point this small camera at the night sky and record stars and swirling aurora. While the a7S III was largely created for video, the photo capabilities are pleasantly surprising. As an astrophotographer, I am thrilled to have this in my toolbox for stills as well. I honestly cannot recommend this baby enough. If you shoot at night, then no questions asked. This is the champ.

In a League of it's own!

After shooting Canon professionally for over 10 years it was the original a7s that pulled me in to the Sony world and I haven't looked back. No longer do I have to depend on a large shoulder cam for 10 bit color. The quality it captures when shooting in slog-3 10 bit 422 all-I and its dynamic range in such a small package is a game changer for me. It makes my job so much easier to be quick and nimble in run and gun situations. The new active stabilization combined with the internal ibis makes shooting handheld a breeze, and if I really want stable handheld shots I deactivate all internal stabilization and use Sonys catalyst application to take advantage of the a7siiis gyro sensor information. Do I really even need to mention it's low light capability??? The a7siii is without a doubt in a league of its own.
