I bought this as a gift for a dear friend and it was perfect....

I have owned this player for 2 months. It was great 'til 2 weeks ago. First, I started getting a blank screen. Once I unplugged and plugged in the unit, it worked again. Then, I am still getting a blank screen and unplugging and plugging in the unit is not reliable - in one instance I repeated this 6 times until I was able to play a blu-ray. Now, when I'm able to get the screen unblanked, there is no audio. Pros: Quick set up, Good price Cons: blank screen, no audio

This player starts up with no issues. My last 2 Sony blurays both had to have the power reset a lot to play

Our panasonic DVD player seemed to be on it's last leg. So we went to Best Buy and bought this Sony. I was going to connect the new one but I tried the old one, just to see, and found it was functioning normally! So instead of returning the new one (which in hindsight is what we should have done), we held on to it (box unopened) for several months in case our old one finally died (which it just did). We went to connect this one today. I expected it would work fine. (We were hooking it up to a Sony TV, so it's not like we haven't bought Sony products before.) We tried a couple different DVD's just to see how it works and it was hit and miss which ones would even load! So I called the Geek Squad and they said bring it in. So we drove out there. They said, the reader in it is bad. Looks like we were just unlucky. But they can't fix this BRAND NEW DVD player and BEST BUY WON'T EXCHANGE IT for a functional one because it's beyond their 14 day time limit and we didn't buy a protection plan. Buyer beware! If you buy from Best Buy they will not stand behind what they sell for anymore than 14 days. We lost money on a brand new DVD player (we left it at the store, what are we going to do with it?) I will find another someplace other than Best Buy.

This is the fourth Sony Blu-ray Player I have had in 2 1/2 years and it is also the fourth one to freeze and go into what seems to be standby mode. I contacted Sony and they said to plug it into a different outlet and perform a factory reset which worked temporarily. I was able to sign into Netflix but when I was in the middle of signing into Hulu it quit again. I tried changing the outlet again to no avail. I am returning to Best Buy tomorrow to get a different brand.

Great lil dvd player, love having this considering how everything costs so much now and you have to stream everything!

As a dvd player it does its job. But when using it to access Netflix, Prime, etc performance deteriorated quickly. Started just freezing up but could be thawed by turning off and then on. After a while that wasn't enough and I had to unplug it. Now nothing. It will play dvds but the remote functions don't work at all. And I can't get it to do anything with Netflix etc. Bummer. I don't really need a dvd player I bought it for the other functions. To rate it is difficult. As a straight up dvd player its good. for the other features it stinks.

It would be exactly what i wanted if i could download hulu.. It doesn't have that option. Why? Cheaper products have more options? Don't understand it. Thumbs down

Sony DVD player replaced JVC system and works well for dvd's and cd's with less cables

The apps on this player need updating. TUBI is actually unwatchable now. No firmware updates for this player for a long time now. Player broke just under 4 years old. Thank goodness I took the four-year warranty out on it. Get the 7 Series model instead. All the apps are currently supported and updated. Much better player.

During Setup and when playing (DVD, CD, Youtube, anything), the screen blacks out for 2-10 seconds, then restarts, repeatedly. Returned and tried another with the same results. Didn't find others having the same problem in searching. I have no black-out (power or interference problems) with the previous blu-ray or any other equipment on the same power strip. Didn't have problem in in-store test. Traded in for Samsung and it worked perfectly. Also, if you turn it off, it doesn't remember where you are on the disc---super annoying.

When it works, it’s great...WHEN it works. It has a tendency to cut to black for a few seconds and resume the video, though the audio has no problem. Latest and greatest driver installed. Same with replacement. Shame, really, it’s wonderful when it’s running.

I wish I could tell you how this product works, but I can't because there was no HDMI cord included with the product, EVEN THOUGH the instruction manual clearly lists on page 18 that they do include 1 HDMI cord. I messaged Best Buy after and they said too bad we said on the website there's no cord. So FYI, even though the DVD player they're selling for $100 says per the manufacturer that all necessary parts come included, they don't and Best Buy won't replace it because under the specifications it says no cables included online.

Only Sony would do this. Play Stations have HBOGO & Blu Ray does not!

This player will upscale 1080p BD up to 4K. However, WILL NOT play native 4K BD discs. I don't believe this is mentioned on the box or in the owner's manual. DO NOT get this player if you intend to play 4K Blu-Ray discs.
