I hated my old one from the day I bought it. I could never understand why it would take over 30 seconds to open a drawer when there was no DVD in the player. This model opens almost immediately. The menu on this model is also much easier to use. Picture and sound is exactly what is expected... excellent. I did not do any side-by-side comparisons, but I'm perfectly happy with the picture and sound. The only thing I wish this model had is a way to display where you are in the movie, and how much of the movie is remaining. There is no digital display on the unit itself, nor does that information show on the TV screen. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Anyhow, I give it a thumbs up.
