Customers are saying

Customers recognize the DSC-HX400's superior camera quality, ease of use, and lightweight design as significant advantages. Many appreciate its impressive features and good battery life, along with its ability to perform well in low-light conditions. However, some users find the camera's size to be a drawback, and a few have expressed concerns about the lens cap and focusing capabilities. Overall, positive feedback on image quality and usability outweighs the negative comments regarding size and accessories.

I love this camera. It is fast and easy to operate. It is light but it still feels like it is substantial enough that it won’t shatter if dropped. I love the multi shot feature. You can take up to 10 consecutive shots and choose the one you like best. Works very well at air shows when the jets are screaming by. The zoom is insane and it is 20 Megapixel so even fully zoomed pictures taken can be further enhanced. Lots and lots of features I haven’t even looked into.

I have been using a friends camera (the 300 model) for a few years and loved it. While at tournaments (only time I've used it so far), my friend noticed that it was slow to take pictures. There seemed to be an unusually long lag time between taking one picture and the camera being ready to snap the next photo. This is using the automatic feature. When I took it for USA Games tournament, I got to use it for the first time. I noticed that when taking distance photos, it struggled to focus (the 300 model did an OUTSTANDING job with focus). Then, when I got where it would take the telephoto shot, it wouldn't focus for the next shots, etc. I found the only way to get it to focus again was to power off the camera and turn it back on. I missed a number of precious photos of my athletes receiving their awards or performing in their events because of this focus problem. Taking camera back in case it is a lemon. Since the 300 model didn't have any issues, it is surprising that the 400 and newer model would have these difficulties. Love the adjustable back viewing screen -- one of the major selling points for this camera. I had been also looking at the Canon T5i or Nikon 5300, which also have adjustable screens, but neither got near by budget of $500 -- even for Black Friday sales (only the T6 model hit $500, but doesn't have adjustable screen). I recommend getting a camera with the adjustable back viewer. It is so handy when you need to take pictures over other peoples's heads or down low -- like when taking pics of little kids. I'm hoping the focus issue can be corrected. I loved the quality of photos from the 300 model and was hoping for similar performance with the newer model. The 300 model took excellent distance photos, that when you zoomed in on the computer, didn't become pixelated and made it seem like you were a lot closer. I take sporting photos and often take photos from across football fields. The quality of zoom made that 100+ yard distance look like the photo was taken less than 10 yards away.

Sony always puts out a great product. I have always bought Sony cameras until my last fugifilm cool pix. It was a great camera, but when it was damaged, I purchased this sony as a replacement. I love everything about it!! Great point and shoot!! Great for inexperienced users!! Cleanest pictures ever. No noise or blur. I just can't say enough good things. I bought a Nikon one day before this Sony and I was really disappointed. Took it back the very next day. Spent the extra $150 on the Sony and so glad I did. Well worth the extra money!!

As an amateur, the camera is really easy to use. The zoom is really great. The weight of the camera is not bad either. Fun camera. Definitely not one a pro would want, but for a fun easy to use camera , it is perfect.

I had been researching cameras for over a year and finally decided to purchase the SONY DSC HX400. I love my purchase. The picture quality is amazing and it is very easy to travel with! My first picture was of fireworks and how amazing they turned out!

I was tired of getting blurry pictures of my kids hockey games so went in search of a reasonably priced point-and-shoot specifically for this application. I had purchased a Nikon but returned it because the photo quality during games wasn't any better than my iPhone. I paid a bit more but bought this Sony HX400. It is fabulous! Incredible zoom and the hockey shots are clear! If you are looking for great action sport photos this camera will not disappoint; however make sure you have the action sports setting turned on.

First off I looked at many different cameras before settling on this one. This is a great camera for a beginnner or a pro. With its comprehensive menus and useful features you are garunteed to get the best possible shot. The titling screen is perfect for getting a shot at an awkward angle. The viewfinder is amazing and unbelievably clear. Great for framing a shot or reviewing one. Wifi and Nfc make sharing and posting pcitures to social media a cinch. The 50x zoom isn't overkill and lets you capture anything yards away. All in all a great camera and I would definetly buy it again.

Wanted to replace our simple point and click camera with something that had more zoom. Didn't want complicated with interchangeable lenses. This camera fit the bill nicely. A little bigger than I would have liked, but with such a long zoom the size was understandable. Still learning to use all the features, but so far it seems simple to use and I like the shots it takes.

I am using this product to take pictures of birds. This camera takes nice telephoto shots. I am seeing great detail in the birds when I get a good focus and zoom. The zoom lens is very high quality. The viewfinder, to me, is a must when birding; it has been clutch in getting a quick clear zoom and focus on the birds; birds can be a challenging picture because they move around so much. I end up taking 5 or six shots of each bird and end up with a couple of keepers. I can't say enough about this camera. It is great at this price point.

I like everything about this camera. The zoom on this thing is crazy! The only thing is when you zoom out there really far the harder it is to get a steady, sharp photograph. Love all the manual controls, too. The auto modes work great when you're walking around and may need to grab shots quickly! Great picture quality. The main thing I'd like to see in it is the ability to shoot in Raw instead of jpeg.

I did a ton of research before I chose this camera. I'm not a professional but I wanted more options than your average point-shoot. This camera supplies that in spades. It is light but not compact. The wifi option is awkward and I just prefer loading from my SD card, so that feature was not all I wanted it to be.

Camera is easy to use for someone who isn't a professional photographer. Picture quality is exceptional! Never have to worry if a shot is blurry bc 99 times out of 100 the picture came out great. Lots of shutter options to pick from. Lightweight. Great camera at a great price

Easy to use and fast. Produces vivid focused pictures with the right amount of light and color. It does well in low light too. I was on the fence buying this because other manufactures have a similar camera with a longer telephoto. I ended up buying this because of my recent experiences with other Sony cameras. I have not regretted the decision. It is a great all around camera.
