Customers are saying

Customers recognize the DSC-HX400's superior camera quality, ease of use, and lightweight design as significant advantages. Many appreciate its impressive features and good battery life, along with its ability to perform well in low-light conditions. However, some users find the camera's size to be a drawback, and a few have expressed concerns about the lens cap and focusing capabilities. Overall, positive feedback on image quality and usability outweighs the negative comments regarding size and accessories.

I had been thinking of buying a new camera for about a month. This camera feels durable/sturdy from the moment you hold it. The pictures are crisp clear and focuses in/out smooth. I've owned several different brands in the past, but this time I knew I would buy a Sony. Thus far, they have yet to disappoint me when it comes to reliability/quality. I'm very happy with my purchase, and highly recommend this camera!

For the price I don't think you can get a better camera with this amount of zoom. Shoots clear and quick pictures and is also easy to use.

I bought this camera after extensive research online from various sources. I wanted a super zoom camera with wifi and this one had the highest megapixels with those other features. It is easy to handle and I was able to connect to the app on my iphone to send pictures. It worked like a charm and was easy to follow the directions. I have not taken any videos as of yet.

Researched many cameras before this purchase. Most confusing and difficult decision. The very last one I considered. Having to stay within budget made the choice much tougher. If all info is correct, this will be one extremely outstanding camera. Have not had time to really get much picture-taking done yet. We'll see!

I purchased this camera because I was looking for the best zoom camera, I have an old version that I bought in 2009 and I think that I have made a good deal buying this one! If you are looking for a big zoom without loosing the quality that is the camera!

    Disappointed

Have had this camera less than 2 months. Loved the shots I was getting. Then just this week it decided not to turn on some times, even with a charged battery, telephoto isn't always working, USB didn't work, wouldn't turn off sometimes. Took to Best Buy but I have to contact Sony as the camera that I purchased on THEIR website was "through a third party". Hope to have better luck with Sony.

Hi Birdlover, we're sorry to hear about this. We suggest performing a power reset to resolve the issue. Remove the battery and press the power button for 30 seconds to a minute. If this doesn't help, service may be needed for your unit. Thanks_Mitch

BROKEN AFTER LESS THAN 3 YEARS

The DSC-HX400V is a bridge unit very versatile, pleasant to use, the zoom is very nice for animal or nature photos at great distance, the LCD repositionable is a plus. Unfortunately after less than 3 years of use the stabilizer breaks down, making it impossible to take sharp pictures. Thousands of users on the Internet have the same problem, see for example http://sony-e-62-10.tk/ or look for E:62:10 on the Internet. If I had known I would never have bought this model. For me it is a hidden defect or a problem of obsolescence programmed which Sony refuses to follow up despite the many complaints.

    Short-Lived Camera

I have been a long-term customer of Sony's high-zoom cameras. I've purchased the series of Cybershot DSC H series cameras, including H1, H5, H300 and most recently the HX400V. After about 2 years of use, we start getting the E:62:10 error. This is related to zoom, image stabilization, focus, and the ability to take sharp pictures. I kept thinking that this issue would be fixed with each new camera, but it has not. Sony has lost a long-time customer. Switching to the Canon high zoom now.

Hi krd1, Please perform a power reset: Remove the battery from the camera.Set the power switch to ON. Press and hold the shutter button for 30 seconds. Set the power switch to OFF. Insert the battery back to the camera. Set the power switch to ON to see if the camera will turn on. Make sure the camera is updated: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/compact-cameras-dsc-hx-series/dsc-hx400#downloads. Please initialize the camera to isolate the issue further if the issue is still unresolved.

lens failure after 3 years of easy use

    Posted .

I purchased this camera in August of 2015. I have taken lots of pics and vids and everything worked as expected. pic quality not the best, but decent considering the sensor size. light is your friend. setting the pixels to 5M also helps the sensor. Within the past 6 weeks an error code (e:62:10) started to display. I tired the work arounds found on the internet and that worked for about 1 month. Now I am finding that I will have to spend ~200$ to replace the lens, which is ~1/2 the price of the camera after 3 years and 1 month of use. I really like this camera and I imagine that when I look for a replacement the best option will still be this model. Hopefully this issue has been resolved. I want to stress that this camera has never been handled poorly. When I cannot clear the code you can see the lack of image stabilization in the view finder and in the pic. If I had written this review before this error occurred it would have been 5 stars. I am really disappointed that this happened after 3 years. Maybe Sony will help me out.

A $60 caMERA IS BETTER THAN THIS Junk

This camera is not even good enough for amateurs. You can take about 10 pictures before the battery dies. All of the controls are sluggish. Low light pictures are beyond useless. But the worst thing is the camera can not focus. I tried to take a picture of my son walking down isle at graduation (very slowly), missed the shot cause camera wouldn't focus. Next tried to take action pictures of my daughter a gymnastic champion ship. The high speed sports mode is a joke. Camera cant focus have never even gotten 1 picture of my daughter. Buy a Cannon or Nikon.
