My mom loves her new dvd player. Looks just like her old

I thought one DVD player was as good as the next. This DVD player is not HDMI compatible so I had to spend more money to buy a converter AND a HDMI cable. This DVD player is also not capable of playing the super HD DVDs that Best Buy sells. My TV is HD and my DVD player is not so the picture is not what my TV is capable of. You get what you pay for at Best Buy.

For the first time, I am VERY unhappy with a Sony product. I purchased it just 7 months ago, and did not buy the extended warranty from Best Buy, as I have never had to use one for a Sony product , and I trusted it would work as it should. Any blame should be mine for assuming it would last, because it is a Sony. Initially, it worked perfectly, but recently, it freezes up, and stops working altogether. Beware of Sony's 1 year warranty; I called them, and they told me it is covered for parts, and _not_ labor in fixing it. In effect, it would cost as much as I paid for it, Plus shipping, to get it to function again. My gripe is not with Best Buy, but with Sony. For the price of around $40, one would expect a Sony DVD player to work, and not to become useless junk in 7 months. Buyer beware if you want this item to function for greater that 6 months.

This played great at first, but after about 1 year of light use, it freezes on the DVD like its scratched (but its not scratched) but it won't respond to any commands on the unit or the remote of 10-15 minutes its completely frozen. when it finally does respond to commands it will play the DVD for maybe 20 more minutes and then repeats the whole frozen process again. So frustrating!

I purchased this DVD player a few months ago to use for watching DVDs on my bedroom TV. It worked great until tonight. I turned the DVD player on, put in a Winnie the Pooh DVD for my nephew, and the DVD player started to make an odd ticking noise. Being that the DVD was a rental and I didn't want it to get scratched I tried turning it off, but it wouldn't. I unplugged it, then plugged it back in, and now it won't turn on whatsoever. So I'm out $34.99(plus tax) for the DVD player and $2.12 for the DVD rental.

We were looking for a basic dvd player to connect to an old TV via RCA jacks. This item fit the bill. Seemed to have pretty good reviews, overall, and we had had good experiences with Sony products in the past so we purchased it. Set up was simple. Seemed to work ok initially, but as we tried to view more dvds we found that the player had trouble reading several discs. I could understand, maybe, the player having an issue with a disc from the library that's scuffed up a little. But it also has had trouble reading brand new, straight out of the package discs. Can't really predict when it will work or not. BTW: any disc this player had an issue with we also tried in our Samsung player for our other TV and that player played all discs perfectly, but it is a more expensive player. This player was bought 10/31/15. It sat in the box for a couple weeks before we set it up and now (12/04/15) it is past any return window. Really just a disappointment and a waste of money.

During connection realized cable was an older version & had to replace it. Very annoying

My Sony DVD player worked well for roughly two years, but then it would simply refuse to play some DVDs (which worked fine in my laptop or another DVD player). I decided to discard it — good thing it was inexpensive.

Bought one year or so ago, worked fine, if a little basic, until...suddenly "Can't play the disk." This is for any disk I've played before. So if you go this route--paying $35 for a DVD player--better figure that will be $35/year. Might be cheaper to spend a little more on something that lasts longer, I'm thinking.

Was missing remote, but description said all parts included. I was disappointed. There should be a way to send a remote. Dvd player works great.

This DVD player just isn’t working out! I’ve tried watching a couple DVDs and the sound is fading out in movies when people are having conversations. I contacted Sony support and they had no idea how to help. I changed the DVD audio settings as many ways as I could, but nothing fixed the issue. Now, on the 4th dvd I’ve tried watching, it simply froze and stopped responding. I’ll be returning this for a different DVD player. Bummer because I don’t have a car to get to a store (stores are 1hr+ away on a bus) and shipping it back will take forever. I bought it with a gift card and I want to use those funds for a new one, and it’s just overall very frustrating. I’m not sure why this is so highly recommended.
