Does not work well for wide screen movies

Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.When I play a wide screen movie, it comes out compressed on the screen, making everything looking thin and tall. There is nothing on the remote to change that. On my old Toshiba VHS/DVD player, it automatically adjusts for that, but not the Sony DVD player. I had to put aside the Sony Player and hook back up my Toshiba VHS/DVD player after getting serviced so I can watch movies in better formats. I do not recommend this Sony unit for wide screen movies. It is okay for old standard screen movies from the 1940's, etc, or recorded TV shows, but not movies with wide screen.

I installed my DVD player and the remote did not work at all. I contacted tech support. After a 35 minute conversation of ridiculous solutions, I was told I must A) prove I had purchased the item and B) mail the entire unit back and wait for a new one. Its just the remote! So I guess I go without a DVD player even longer while it travels the country and goes into the abyss of customer service....

Now I have to reload the DVD each time I want to return to watching it. Otherwise it will not respond to PLAY command

The slot where you place the disc does not properly grab the disck when inserted and feels very loose!!

There are no lights to indicate that the unit is on or a readout to indicate its status, e.g., playiing, stopped or paused. 2. There is no S-video output.

It only had 3 connections whereas our old DVD player had about 6 going into all components. Would recommend for a simple TV connection.

I believe I may return the DVD and select a different model. I have always been satisfied with prior Sony purchases but not this model.
